And Clare Court accommodation.

ofteninaspin · 16/04/2021 16:36

DS (C) has elected not to return until April 25th. He has one more project to finish (part of his first year marks) before he packs and travels (it's a longish journey). There is also less competition for the best study space in the house with DD back in O.
DD reports that she is so much more productive now that she can access her favourite library spaces. Just as well with finals in six weeks!

mutterphore · 16/04/2021 17:59

Really good news today for DS2 - who is now being allowed back to college. We're all hugely relieved! Wish he hadn't had to go through the application and waiting process just to be allowed access to his college - but anyway, he's very happy. I can now also look forward to having some DC-free time after 5 months all together again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/04/2021 18:01

That's brilliant mutterphore :)

ofteninaspin · 16/04/2021 18:09

Great news @mutterphore.

Flyonawalk · 16/04/2021 19:06

Very happy to read update from @mutterphore! Here’s hoping for a proper student summer for all our DC.

Cliff1975 · 16/04/2021 19:10

Corpus Christi (c) have been v supportive.

Unescorted · 16/04/2021 19:42

Great news mutter

sandybayley · 16/04/2021 19:47

@mutterphore - excellent news. When can he go back?

DS1 says there are road works in Oxford again....

Pepermintea · 16/04/2021 19:51

Great news @mutterphore! Was he interviewed on zoom or did they just agree that he could go back?

DS is waiting to hear and it's making me very nervous!

goodbyestranger · 16/04/2021 20:06

DD4 is going back on Wednesday, by train (she travelled home for Easter very light, and her room is all set up because she was in college last term. Although the pipes burst a couple of days before she left so hopefully that hasn't happened again or things could be very soggy. Hopefully the water deluge has deterred the rats who live very nearby - that would be a plus).

Glad to hear DS2 has been given the green light mutterphore.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/04/2021 20:14

Good luck to your dd Goodbye. Here's hoping for a dry room!

SnapSnapDragon · 16/04/2021 20:24

Great news mutterphore. You can have a lovely birthday celebration now!

Hopefully there will be a domino effect and even the strictest colleges will let everyone back now.

Hoghgyni · 16/04/2021 20:41

What a relief Mutterphore. I had the house to myself for a few hours today. It was lovely (although I was at work).

JulesJules · 16/04/2021 21:11

I'm now wondering if we were right to change our travel arrangements from next week to May 15th. (Overnight hotel) if D1 would be able to go back as originally planned, as it looks like things are moving back that way. She hasn't requested to return, although she'd have grounds to, as her college have been fairly hardline.

sandybayley · 16/04/2021 21:18

@JulesJules - it does seem it is going that way. Could she put in another request?

DS1's college was being a bit tricksy about returns but does seem to have gone the other way now. We just need a spell of good weather now so they can enjoy socialising outside.

OP posts:
JulesJules · 16/04/2021 21:23

I'll see what she thinks, who knows if I'd be able to change the hotel again.

SilverSilverStreet · 16/04/2021 22:52

@FingernailNibbler, you are right that travel along Silver Street in Cambridge used to be allowed only for some vehicles at certain times of day.

It’s now restricted all the time. I think only local buses, taxis and bikes can go that way now: bikes definitely can and cars can’t.

FingernailNibbler · 16/04/2021 22:57

Does anyone have a list of colleges that are taking students back, or which are lenient with accepting the sef-penned mental health request letters?

EllieFredrickson · 16/04/2021 23:12

DD's Oxford college has today agreed to have her and her friends back - streamlined process as referred to in Sandy's article although her college isn't mentioned in that. Basically tick box - which one of these 'exemptions' applies to you?

So pleased - she is doing collections here though and not going back until next weekend. It has been really stressful and complete nonsense but finally colleges and Oxford uni appear prepared to stand up to the DfE.

ofteninaspin · 17/04/2021 07:09

Ah - nuisance about the burst pipe goodbye. I’m not sure rats are too fussy about damp though.
DS travelled home “light” - almost five months ago. (He has practically worn out the few clothes he brought home with him.) At least he won’t have to unpack when he gets back Smile.

HuaShan · 17/04/2021 07:19

Nothing from DS college but he has decided it's not worth thinking about anymore and he will go back at some point in May. It's a big college, he hadn't really met that may people and if no-one he knows is going back he feels he is better off at home as at least he has some semblance of a social life here now. Sad but pragmatic.

Unescorted · 17/04/2021 07:28

DD travelled back light and is travelling back heavy. Coming home in the summer will be interesting. I might put the roof box on just in case.

Hua is he not on the college and course social media pages and WhatsApp / Snap Chat groups? That is how DD knows most of the people she knows are already back or returning next week.

goodbye I hope she does not have a soggy return. That would just be miserable.

HuaShan · 17/04/2021 07:50

Unescorted yes he is but it doesn't seem that many are returning. He is on a subject group chat but he says they only talk about the subject!

Unescorted · 17/04/2021 08:01

hahaha! DD's subject is anything other than the subject.

In other news has anyone's kid had to write their parent letters yet? DD is v. excited her and her 2 spouse have 4 children between them. Because of the social distancing and not being in Oxf since early December they have no pictures together so DD has been photoshopping selfies / pictures take by others into all sorts of scenarios. Apologies if your child is an offer holder and gets superheroes with low moral standards.
