@NotSorry, to be fair the last time I looked (about a fortnight ago) there was no timetable for this year's graduation ceremonies but suddenly it was there on Friday, when I most recently checked again. And no more info until April!

don't stick up for him Grin

The end of DD's uni experience is starting to feel very real! She submitted her dissertation on Monday and now only has one more assignment this term and two end of module assignments next term.
She's starting to look forward to her graduation in July but doesn't really know what her next steps will be yet, she says her diss has been all consuming and she hasn't had a chance to give it any thought.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/03/2022 16:58

@juicy0 DS got a few days' extension for his dissertation as he was poorly last week. I'm hoping he will be submitting it by the end of this week though!

Yes, DS is the same as your DD. It seemed pretty full-on doing the dissertation. Plenty of time to decide what to do next!

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 sorry to hear your son has been unwell, particularly at such a critical time, but that's what the extensions are for so it's good he's been able to make use of one.
Totally agree, no rush to decide on next steps, I've told DD she should just enjoy the time left to the max after such a disrupted experience

boys3 · 23/03/2022 18:34

Well done on all the DCs getting their dissertations in or about to be in.

Looking more likely here that DS2 aiming to stay on for a masters. Whether that desire has anything to do with then also being able play in the Uni sport team I couldn’t possibly comment on. It seems that there is an alumina discount, which substantially increases if a 1st is achieved. if being the key word. But I guess we will see how things play out over the next few months.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/03/2022 19:09

I'm sure you all saw my post on the other thread about ds's advisor not being very helpful and impossible to get hold of. He met the new advisor today. I asked if he was helpful, Ds said a bit. He told me Saturday that he will do the final round of mice catching this week, which means doing it over several nights. I asked how he's getting on with the mice catching, he said he's not done any yet this week. Then I asked if this is his last week of attending lectures etc before Easter, he said he didn't know. Ds is always vague, I don't know what planet he's on sometimes. He's hoping to book the lab over the Easter break. Ds has to homogenise the samples and get it between 2 slides. Apparently he finds it difficult to get it between the slides. So I still think he's struggling. He's always needed help and guidance with stuff. I hope he can get on and get it done. He's not started writing the dissertation yet. He said it needs to be in mid April.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/03/2022 08:35

@icanbewhatiwant wishing your DS all the best in his final (droppings collection) push. He will be working hard to get his dissertation in on time but three weeks should be okay, as long as he gives himself some 'review' time for revising the draft. Some people are much better at working at their best when the adrenaline is in full flow. Perhaps your DS is one of them?

DS thinks he had COVID again. He seems to have had quite a few bouts of illness this year. Not sure his current house share is the most healthy environment.

A discounted Masters is tempting but I know DS doesn't really want to stay at UEA. Part of the reason his plans are so much 'up in the air' is because his girlfriend (who is a foreign national) doesn't know what she's going to be doing next. He seems to think they're going to live together somewhere. Fine and dandy but they need decent jobs to be able to afford to 'go it alone' straight from graduating.

And all the best to all the other young people facing their final few weeks (and modules) at UEA!

Booking has opened this week for graduation - possibly sooner but DS2 claims he got the email link earlier this week. 2 guests as standard it seems then option to go into ballot for up to two more, although he did mutter something about 3+1 as well. But has gone for 2+2.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/04/2022 06:21

Ds's mates have decided not to go to America now. So Ds has booked a graduation place. So I am pleased. He has sent me the link to hire the gown as he said he's not paying £45 I hope everyone else wears the gown. He will be annoyed if I hire it and no one else wears it all.

Sluj · 21/04/2022 09:46

Found you again! I was wondering about gowns etc and what to wear myself ! DS still has 2 nodules to do but the dissertation was in on time. No job hunting as yet. It's a big year
of change for them

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/04/2022 17:36

I totally agree @Sluj. I think they probably need a bit of time to draw breath once they finish their courses next month, don't you?

Could to hear that your DS can have the fortnight's extension for his dissertation if he wants it @icanbewhatiwant. Although he may just feel that he wants to get it done and dusted.

@Itscoldouthere just checking in to see how you, DH, the dog and your boys are getting on. How is DS2 doing? Wishing you all well.

@boys3 thanks for the tip off re booking for the graduation ceremony.

We’ve booked the tickets but haven’t had the link to the gown - are you able to share that? Knowing my DS it’s sitting in the in box - when my eldest graduated everyone wore the gowns, why would they not?

icanbewhatiwant · 26/04/2022 21:50

www2.edeandravenscroft.com/graduation/index/

Does that work? I've no idea. We have booked the gown yet either. I must do it.

icanbewhatiwant · 26/04/2022 21:50

Have not* booked the gown.

NotSorry · 26/04/2022 22:06

@icanbewhatiwant thanks! I’ll phone him tomorrow and sort

boys3 · 26/04/2022 22:40

none the wiser on the gown situation here.Grin DS2 more excited - I think that probably is the right word - about the varsity matches with Essex (???) tomorrow.

boys3 · 27/04/2022 20:24

not graduation related but varsity duly won - for DS2's sport at least. UEA seem to be on track for overall victory.

LouisCatorze · 28/04/2022 14:43

Sorry, that link doesn't seem to work Hmm

You mean UEA are about to be champions of one particular sporting competition? Great news!

Just winners - again - of the Derby Day against Essex Uni. Probably nothing to get over excited about😀

8th consecutive Derby win against Essex 🙂

LouisCatorze · 29/04/2022 07:44

Well done UEA!

Essex is a university that seems much less popular than it used to be as a hotbed of 60s and 70s left-wing radicalism?

Sluj · 04/05/2022 08:30

DS has finally got the email about hiring the gown. They seem to have to organise photos on a different day by booking a slot, am I reading this right? Presumably they will have a gown they can borrow for the photos. Not so good for DS1 who is having his delayed graduation and probably won't be in Norwich long enough to organise the photo too 😕
