DD4 got both an email and an offer letter last year which some colleges do, without ramming home bad news with a letter as well. Some colleges do both. I don't think any do email only for offers but I could well be wrong and things change year on year in any event.

JulesJules · 09/01/2021 13:59

Last year D1 got her offer around 8.30am, via email from the college. Track updated pretty quickly. I don't think she got a letter as well. One college sent emails out really early according to TSR - St Peters - sent emails out overnight. It's worth having a list of the college codes to hand if you interviewed for different colleges or had an open application.

Good luck all!

Hoghgyni · 09/01/2021 15:20

DD got her offer at 9.25 by email. The Colleges may say on their website if they intend to pop a letter in the post as well.

sandybayley · 09/01/2021 15:26

I think DS1 got his offer at about 10am by email. There was also a letter the day after.

Flyonawalk · 09/01/2021 15:44

@pourmeanotherglass @bendmeoverbackwards Regarding times for offer news, last year I think candidates were advised to check emails at 8.30am and then every hour. Offer email came through for DS at 9.45am U.K. time.

Good luck to all the DC. It is very difficult waiting.

Flyonawalk · 09/01/2021 15:45

...offer letter arrived later, having been posted the day before offers were due by email.

Flyonawalk · 09/01/2021 15:47

@JulesJules Yes I remember the St Peter’s debacle! Someone ‘pushed a button’ shortly after midnight, and the yes or no emails landed on candidates in the small hours of the morning.

Summer15coming · 09/01/2021 16:12

DD has been told - not sure by whom - that offers/rejections would be on UCAS 'first thing', so she was going to check that before emails. But from what you're all saying, it's more likely to be an email first?

summerlovinn · 09/01/2021 16:47

DD has been saying the same @Summer15coming.

On the website it says ‘Decisions will be released via UCAS Track early in the morning. This will be followed by direct communication from the college considering your application.’

www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/guide/decisions#
DD has her bets on an 8-9am track notification!

Summer15coming · 09/01/2021 17:49

@summerlovinn hehe. My DD has it it all planned that she will sleep in until 9 so that she doesn't have to wait around. Likely Grin!!

summerlovinn · 09/01/2021 18:03

oh yes, DD flips from having a late night Netflix-ing and getting up late to have the decision waiting for her to waking up at 7am and refreshing constantly, like she did waiting for interview. She got quite obsessive and very anxious waiting for interview results like that though, to the extent that I was worried, so I may condone the Netflix idea!

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/01/2021 18:22

Bit of a topic swerve but had an amusing exchange with DS today. Based on the excellent advice from old hands here, I asked if there were any detailed conditions when he told me he had an Exeter history offer back in October and got a bit of a “butt out - do you think I am stupid - I can read a website etc” response. (Always harder to navigate these conversations on a bad phone line).

And today it turns out that his AAA offer has an addendum of one grade lower if firmed. Not that he currently plans to firm it, but always good to know, and who knows what lies ahead. Smile. Although it does seem odd that one could go and read history with a B for history.

MatureStudent21 · 09/01/2021 18:52

@Summer15coming I think your DD has the right idea!!

Hoghgyni · 09/01/2021 21:32

That was a tip from me Revenge. Is he sure there isn't £2k tucked away at the bottom as well? Grin

Revengeofthepangolins · 10/01/2021 09:24

@summerlovinn. If it wasn’t a school day I’d advise the whole teenage up late Netflix-fifa-I guess then sleep to 1 approach, but sadly incompatible with DS’s first day of term I suspect Smile

JustRichmal · 10/01/2021 09:39

MidLifeCrisis007, you were asking what to say to people who had been rejected twice. About half the British Nobel Prize winners for science in the last couple of decades did not go to Oxbridge for their first degree. Though obviously all those who get rejected are not going to end up with Nobel prizes, it does point to successful careers not being dependent only on getting into Oxbridge.

However, I too shall try comforting DD with the words "It is a truth commonly acknowledged that any young man in possession of a good degree from Durham must be in search of a wife" Grin

MidLifeCrisis007 · 10/01/2021 10:03

Poor DS1 starts work at 8am on Tuesday as he's supervising the critical workers' kids during lockdown. He likes the excuse to get out the house although the poor boy was shouted at by a woman on the bus (at 7.20am!) last week for allegedly breaking lockdown rules! I shall be eagerly awaiting news from him.

LaundryFairy · 10/01/2021 11:24

Well we really are in the final countdown now for Oxford aren't we. DS was saying yesterday that he'll have a lot to get his head around on Tuesday, whatever the result. It's going to be a very emotional day.

Before we get the results I wanted to say how much I have appreciated all of the brilliant support and advice I've had on this thread. It has been a much-needed place to ask questions and vent my worries amongst people understand what it's like to be a parent trying to do their best to support their DC through a really challenging process. So, thanks very much to all of you lovely lot! Grin

Revengeofthepangolins · 10/01/2021 12:01

I do agree @LaundryFairy !!

I hope that the once the group thins out, the ongoing Oxbridge crew also come and visit the general thread as this is such friendly and supportive crowd - I’ll miss you otherwise Smile

chopc · 10/01/2021 12:09

Ditto what @LaundryFairy said!

FlyingSquid · 10/01/2021 13:06

I’ll third that!

DD has unfortunately twigged that the final UCAS deadline has moved, and is now saying she might as well wait for the Oxford result before she decides her other choices. I might need company as we approach 6 pm on the delayed deadline.

321zyx · 10/01/2021 13:09

Agreed @LaundryFairy

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2021 13:11

Yes agreed @LaundryFairy and also thank YOU for your support.

IrmaFayLear · 10/01/2021 15:32

Good luck all the young chaps and chapesses for Tuesday, and a virtual hand hold for us quivering-kneed parents.

fabtasticmrpox · 10/01/2021 15:43

Lovely words laundry fairy I agree.

Dd seems pretty convinced she won't be receiving an Oxford offer and has been considering her other options.
We've agreed to get Chinese on Tuesday either way . I do hope they stay open.
