But of course she's now in a tizzy about further interviews but I've reassured her she'll be more relaxed this time and knows roughly what to expect.

Does anyone know if she's likely to be asked different topics from those in the first interviews?

I was planning to meet her at Apple today to buy her a new laptop. I wanted to do it before we possibly go into Tier 3 this week. But she's not sure she wants to do it today. I'm going to see if I change the appointment.

Eastisup · 14/12/2020 13:55

Wonderful news @ChimneyPot and @Chocomel !

Millylovespuddles · 14/12/2020 13:56

Happy days chimneypot!

Here, DD has had her first of 2 medical interviews. She was very calm until 15 minutes before her slot, and then couldn't get into her Gmail account. Total panic of course, but then she figured she could send the link to my email to open it, so disaster was averted - albeit after a very flustered 5 minutes.

Turns out, there was a world-wide problem with Google, so I'm sure it would have been re-arranged if need be, but it wasn't an ideal start. No doubt she'll log onto her computer a little earlier for the next one....

Eastisup · 14/12/2020 13:57

and @bendmeoverbackwards! Good luck to her for tomorrow!

ChimneyPot · 14/12/2020 14:00

Oh the google outage could have played havoc with people’s interviews. Just getting in to emails to access links!
I hope the added stress has not impacted anyone.

quest1on · 14/12/2020 14:12

Hi everyone. DS had had his two Cambridge interviews this morning. He said all interviewed were really nice and they helped! Seemed fairly buzzing after the second one, but you can never tell how these things have gone really. Anyway, whatever happens, he feels he’s done his best and is relieved it’s over. Cambridge make pooling decisions based on the files and rarely second interview, as I understand it. But I guess, you never know! Anyway, good luck to those with further interviews.

goodbyestranger · 14/12/2020 14:12

bendmeoverbackwards there may be a coincidence of topics, there may be none. Each college does its own thing. Second interviews don't preclude sources either so it's just like starting all over again.

quest1on · 14/12/2020 14:13

all interviewers were nice - no idea about all interviewed!

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 14:19

Well done to your ds @quest1on glad he had a good experience. Best of luck to him for results!

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 14:19

Thinking of you @DahliaMacNamara hope you managed to get the techy stuff sorted out for your dd!

quest1on · 14/12/2020 14:47

Good luck to your DD for the second round, bend.

Do they sometimes get asked to go to more than two colleges at Oxford?

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 14:57

Thank you @quest1on I'm feeling a bit stressed as it was unexpected (from my viewpoint anyway) and what with potentially going into Tier 3 here, trying to sort out new laptop before then, and my oldest and youngest dds doing FOUR dance exams between them this week, my head's feeling like it might explode!

IrmaFayLear · 14/12/2020 15:03

Oh, dear. Dd had a bad second college interview. She said they just stared at her and didn’t help or guide, so there were these terrible silences. Based on what happened with ds (ie the same!) silence is just about the worst outcome and so whilst I suppose there’s a glimmer of hope, realistically I think this is the end of the road for dd.

LaundryFairy · 14/12/2020 15:08

Good luck to your DC on round two @Revengeofthepangolins and @bendmeoverbackwards !

Hoghgyni · 14/12/2020 15:15

Brilliant news @ChimneyPot, although DD is still hoping she gets the chance to show her around.

DahliaMacNamara · 14/12/2020 15:27

Thinking of you *@DahliaMacNamara* hope you managed to get the techy stuff sorted out for your dd!
We did, thanks. DD has lessons all day today so I only got a brief message to say everything had gone okay. I think she only needs the one computer for tomorrow's interview, so she might do that at home as she can be away from her own PC, where DH is off-puttingly working just the other side of the wall. Congratulations to the DC with desirable alternatives in hand.
quest1on · 14/12/2020 15:58

Irma - you never can tell, I don’t think. Does she still have one more to go though?

FlyingSquid · 14/12/2020 15:58

DD has just come out of her second interview in tears and saying exactly the same, Irma.
BigWoollyJumpers · 14/12/2020 16:10

IrmaFayLear and FlyingSquid

That's awful, I just don't understand the point of conducting interviews like that..... poor girls.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 16:21

Your poor dds @IrmaFayLear and @FlyingSquid I hope they both feel better soon.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 16:22

In other news, we've had confirmation of Tier 3 in London and some parts of Herts from Wednesday morning. Doesn't bode well for my other dds' dance exams on Wednesday and Thursday Sad

IrmaFayLear · 14/12/2020 16:36

I have now had it with covid. Really had enough now. It’s raining, tier whatever... I can’t stomach any more Netflix and even my annual Miss Read Christmas binge didn’t do the trick Sad

ChimneyPot · 14/12/2020 16:50

@IrmaFayLear and @FlyingSquid I hope the interviews were meant than your DC think.

chopc · 14/12/2020 17:17

Sorry I won't remember who said what to tag everyone

I think they can still conduct exams in Tier 3? It will be non contact . My DS able to have driving lessons in Tier 3.

Those who have had "silent" interviews - who knows what the interviews thought process is - perhaps they wanted to see how your DC would respond to the silences? And Irma - your elder is living proof that if something is wanted bad enough there is more than one way of achieving the goal

It's so much easier to reflect on others situations than one's own.

I think perhaps we worry about the tech etc more than our DC?

quest1on · 14/12/2020 17:49

Now they are saying a new strain of the virus has broken out in London which transmits more quickly. As if on cue, a lot if DS’ friends have just announced they’ve tested positive today. School has already closed for Xmas though. I heard Sadiq Khan wants to close all London schools until mid-Jan? And all London moving to Tier 3 on Wednesday, only to have it lifted for the Xmas 5 days anyway.

I’m so sorry for those DC who have had silent interviewers - very poor social skills on the part if the interviewers IMO.
