DS has just heard that he has a second interview on Tuesday with a different college. Have told him that this is a good thing as he is still 'in the game'. The fun continues!

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/12/2020 15:28

Good luck to him @LaundryFairy that’s good news. Does he like the college?

LaundryFairy · 13/12/2020 15:34

Yes he does - it would have been his second choice, so that is good news. Hope it goes well!

Tenpastseven · 13/12/2020 16:00

Oh good luck to him @LaundryFairy.

The differences between the application process at O and C are really starting to show themselves now, huh. It seems it’s much more common to be interviewed at a second college at O than it is at C. I heard that most of the pooling at C happens without further interviews.

Good luck to all with first, second, third and fourth interviews this week.

Stitchintimesaves9 · 13/12/2020 16:24

Really good look to all the DCs with interviews next week And lots of Cake, Wine and Gin for us!

LaundryFairy · 13/12/2020 16:25

Thanks @Tenpastseven!

goodbyestranger · 13/12/2020 17:08

Exciting news LaundryFairy - well done him!

IrmaFayLear · 13/12/2020 17:29

Yes, Wine

Dh is pretty vague about this whole thing, but had a lightbulb moment and asked if it was like in the World Cup first round where England has drawn with Belgium and then has to beat Germany to go through Confused

Eastisup · 13/12/2020 17:50

Ooh, good luck to him on Tuesday @LaundryFairy hope it goes well for him!

FrauFreud · 13/12/2020 18:32

Good luck Laundry DS and all others with interviews next week! Please do update - I’m starting to feel very invested in all of our wonderful DC and all news a very welcome distraction from thumb twiddling until 12th Jan.

Chocomel · 13/12/2020 19:26

Just heard that my DS has got into music college so at least he knows he has somewhere to go next year. But wouldn't it be lovely to have to chose between music college and Oxford?! Keeping everything crossed for the students who have interviews ahead, and who are awaiting results. X

LaundryFairy · 13/12/2020 19:35

Congratulations to your DS @Chocomel - that's great news!

And thanks @FrauFreud , @Eastisup and @goodbyestranger for the well - wishes. DH and I were just reflecting that this whole process is such a rollercoaster of emotions, both for DS and us. It is so nice to come on here and be supported by you lovely lot Smile !

Also - Goodbyestranger - I always end up humming Supertramp after reading a post from you - not sure if that is intentional...

stationed · 13/12/2020 20:45

Probably decide whether he wants music college or Oxbridge, before continuing with the Oxbridge process? They're very different things, after all.

Beetlesand · 13/12/2020 20:52

Good luck to all the lovely dcs who have interviews coming up. I also feel invested in everyone else’s dc’s journey. It will be lovely to hear about offers for MN dc in January.
Dd seems to be feeling a bit better now after her not so good interviews. She feels that she wasn’t successful but it’s ok .. it was always a long shot ..and she is has some other good offers in the bag.

Chocomel · 13/12/2020 20:57

@stationed he is absolute for Oxford, without question. But it's the only university he applied to so I'm relieved he has a plan B.

stationed · 13/12/2020 21:05

That's a bit strange - doing an academic degree (even a music one) is completely different from going to conservatoire. You'd think that if he wanted Oxford, his second choice would be one of the other good universities.
Speaking as the parent of a musician myself.
It is true that there's very good extra-curricular music on offer at both Ox and Camb.

Chocomel · 13/12/2020 21:10

@stationed I can see your point. I did my undergrad at Cambridge and my postgrad at the RAM so I think there's room for both establishments in his career path if he's lucky enough to get the opportunities.

stationed · 13/12/2020 21:15

Subject to funds! That's the problem these days.

Chocomel · 13/12/2020 21:19

Crikey yes. I'm trying not to think too much about that!

Revengeofthepangolins · 13/12/2020 21:19

Good luck to all next week’s gang. I am trying to resist asking Ds to check his emails - 11am tomorrow is the deadline for hearing about another college call up

goodbyestranger · 13/12/2020 21:22

Well it's a good song LaundryFairy :)

One of my DS's was pooled for History to his second choice college which proved to be a perfect fit for him. At least these DC have a couple of days to get used to the idea rather than having their name chalked up on a blackboard and five minutes to shoot over the road to the pooling interview!

Gosh, is that how it normally goes when they interview at Oxford? The candidates must be running on pure adrenaline for the time they are there!
NiamCinnOir · 13/12/2020 21:45

Good luck to all the dc with interviews this week Xmas Smile

Congratulations to your ds on his offer, @Chocomel!

goodbyestranger · 13/12/2020 21:46

Yes flash to bang is usually very quick.

Same.

LaundryFairy Good luck to your DS. DD not heard anything yet, so it is either all over, or she's got a place at first choice.....Hey ho.

Can I ask do the DC's get their second interview summons from that second college direct or via first college, or the history dept? Just curious.
