Following on from the previous thread as our young adults start their second year at universities up and down the land (and some overseas too!).

Shimy · 12/10/2020 19:07

@Jano69 Thank you. Missed this thread.

simbobs · 12/10/2020 19:36

Welcome back, @shimy, I find out more on here than I do from my DC.

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2020 19:39

Ain’t that the truth @simbobs Grin

Witchend · 12/10/2020 20:00

I always thought marmite was dog food as the only time it was used round me was to make gravy for my Grandparent's dog. Grin

Lol @Horsemad Grin

@CharlotteSch

Does anybody know if students are allowed to come home once they have had a positive test if they are picked up by car and don't get out until they arrive home? Not sure about the rules on this...
Yes you can bring them home to look after them. If they're just bored, probably not, but who is going to know whether they felt grotty when you collected them?
Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 20:48

Where is that legislation? Doesn’t sound safe to me. Why would students be different?

Witchend · 12/10/2020 21:01

Grin @Horsemad

mum2eim · 12/10/2020 21:07

@CharlotteSch as @Benjispruce2 says don't travel! This is what you get on the test and trace email when you get a positive result.

'It is now a legal duty to self-isolate. You could be fined if you do not stay at home and self-isolate.'

So risk of fine if caught and the risk is something like a breakdown or accident and then risking the emergency services.

Both my younger DC have tested positive today. Neither have been out of the house for 10 days due to online college work (DD) and self isolation for DS due to contact of a positive case. DS only had achy legs, and a mild headache and strangely slight breathless playing his brass instrument. DD lost her sense of taste and smell. They must have caught it at school or I've brought it home from work :-(

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 21:10

@mum2eim hope they recover quickly.

simbobs · 12/10/2020 21:42

@Mumtoelm at least they have both got it at the same time and it doesn't sound as though they are too unwell, so hopefully they will have immunity. Have you been tested yourself?

mum2eim · 12/10/2020 22:26

thank you @Benjispruce2.

@simbobs I got a test today as I've started to feel a bit achy with a mild headache and a slight sore throat and cough.. It was very quick and easy but I ticked the box for key worker so maybe that was why. I logged on at 3pm and had the test at 6pm.

CharlotteSch · 12/10/2020 22:42

Thank you @Benjispruce2 and @mum2eim. Good advice.... I was hoping to whisk dd home. I hope you and your family get better quickly @mum2eim

Jano69 · 12/10/2020 23:53

@mum2eim Pleased you were able to arrange a test so easily and hope you all get better soon.

@CharlotteSch Sorry your DD's having a rotten time.

Benjispruce2 · 13/10/2020 07:12

@CharlotteSch I understand the feeling but you’d be putting yourself/family and others at risk. @mum2eim get well soon.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/10/2020 09:15

Oh dear, everyone is 'falling like flies' with COVID-19 now - sorry to all those of you who have SI family members and/or are SI yourselves. Hope everyone gets better without a 'bad dose' of the virus. As long as you only feel minorly under the weather, it's probably best to all have it at the same time.

@simbobs thanks. I find I learn so much about ‘all sorts’, that in conversations when I give a solid point or very good info., people ask where the information is from? I usually make something wish washy up as I can’t say, ‘MUmsnet’ Blush. It’s not that there’s no evidence to back it up, but DH/DC/in-laws often want to how did I first hear of the fact.

CharlotteSch · 13/10/2020 09:34

@Shimy. That was me too this morning at breakfast when I told my husband the Covid situation in St Mary's, Collingwood etc He wondered how I knew all this info. DD waiting for test result this am but somehow (not that I wish it on any of them) it's reassuring to know that many others are in the same boat and having mild symptoms. The only thing I am unclear about is that my dd is not allowed to leave her room whereas it sounds like some people are allowed to be together with their bubble which sounds much better to me.

Witchend · 13/10/2020 09:34

@mum2eim
Hope they're better soon.

I think the thought of not going and collecting dd if she was ill makes it so much harder. Normally you'd think that if they needed you, then you could go and fetch them. Currently you can't say that.

Horsemad · 13/10/2020 09:43

Hope all students are not too seriously affected. 🤞

mum2eim · 13/10/2020 09:52

@CharlotteSch I don’t blame you for wanting to go and collect your DD. My friend took a load of food down to her positive DD in Nottingham. She did a socially distanced drop off so was able to see her from a safe distance. Could you do that?

@Shimy yes most of my evidence for my views At home comes from mumsnet Grin.
