Here is the new one......

Regarding gcse’s I found the PPE stats from 2019 interesting

www.ppe.ox.ac.uk/files/ppeadmissions2019-20informationforapplicantsfinalpdf

On page 3 it has a graph of all applicants and their 8/9/A* profile, I found it very interesting that while many certainly had lots of 8/9’s that in no way guaranteed an offer and there were plenty of successful applicants with far fewer.
I assume other subjects will be similar although the tsa score to get an interview for PPE is quite high, so maybe that makes for some unusual stats. I haven’t really looked at any other subjects so not sure.

@quest1on

Wow congrats Baaah!

Also to Doom on the Manchester offer. Amazing!

Not a whiff of anything here...,

@quest1on Warwick have said they won't make a decision until after Jan 15th due to fair access for the course. But then the entry grades for Warwick are the same as Cambridge so A A A!

Leeds wants AAA hence an offer at this stage. And as they say, it ain't over till it's over.

I am really happy for others who have had offers, I really hope something comes through soon for your DC quest1on. The waiting is awful. I myself went through clearing a million years ago, so I had nothing until August back in the day of UCAS/PCAS whereas Dh had offers galore.

Good luck to all test takers for tomorrow and Thursday.

ChimneyPot · 03/11/2020 20:16

DD hasn’t had any offers.
I think St Andrews and Durham are later anyway but her other two were Bath and Exeter.
It could be because she has non U.K. qualifications or there could be something wrong with her application.
Her guidance counsellor has a bit of form so I am a bit nervous.
He attached a blank transcript before and has mixed up 2 students predicted grades in the past!

NiamCinnOir · 03/11/2020 20:46

Good luck to everyone sitting Oxford admissions tests tomorrow and Thursday! Dd is sitting the MLAT and the LAT tomorrow and is just feeling a bit fatalistic about it now and wishing it was all over. Interesting comments about spiky GCSE profiles - dd has high grades in the subjects she wants to study at university and related ones, but not in maths and science. At this point, Oxford will have a lot of data on applicants already, so plenty of evidence to decide who to interview.

Revengeofthepangolins · 03/11/2020 21:04

Good luck to the Wednesday exam sitters.

DS1 is Thursday (HAT) so another day of dodging isolation for him. He isn’t an especially strong candidate but I have over the last few weeks become excessively focussed on stressing about him not actually getting to take the damn test because of covid or isolation - somehow it has become important to me that he gets his chance to go through the process, do his best and then just tick it did and move on. All a bit silly, but acknowledging that doesn’t seem to make the fretting go away :-) He is far remote chilled about it (and at boarding school so safe from my fussing this week).

DS2 texted me at length today from school to tell me he was feeling terrible and possibly had a temperature, to my horror, but then texted again to say that having spent some birthday money in Itsu he now felt fine. Bloody drama queen. What a relief though.

Oh whoops I fear about a hundred identical posts might now appear from me as it didn't seem to be working and I excessively pressed refresh.

Pumpkintopf · 03/11/2020 21:12

Great news on the offers!

@JulesJules that's great and really reassuring, thanks for sharing it.

Does anyone know whether the kids actually ever get their results from these tests? DS is sitting NSAA and I know they say it's just one part of the picture and I think you can apply to be told it as part of your feedback if rejected- but otherwise?

Tenpastseven · 03/11/2020 21:13

Congrats to Bench and Baaah on the offers

And good luck to all those taking tests tomorrow. I must admit having to do a google search to work out all the acronyms for the various tests. @NiamCinnOir, how comes your DD is doing 2?

Pumpkintopf · 03/11/2020 21:14

@Revengeofthepangolins I know what you mean! I think we all just want them to have their shot, whether or not they get in, ultimately.

NiamCinnOir · 03/11/2020 21:25

@JulesJules - thank you, that was a really helpful comment about your dd’s experience of the HAT last year and put things into perspective. From what i hear, most candidates come out feeling a bit shell shocked and with no clue about how they’ve done.

@Tenpastseven - two tests back to back, one in her A level language and the other is the language aptitude test (the made up language one) so they can work out if she has any aptitude for learning a language from scratch. At this point she thinks not and is wondering why she thought it was a good idea to apply in the first place Confused

Tenpastseven · 03/11/2020 21:34

Oh I see, I hadn’t realised they were 2 different tests @NiamCinnOir. My flawed acronym search suggested one was a law test 🙄🤷‍♀️.

Good news about the offers!
flyingsquid Dc hasn’t been given any extra info about the centre .. I may suggest taking an extra layer.

Baaaahhhhh · 03/11/2020 22:30

Pumpkintopf DD1 did her BMAT a few years back and definitely got the results, but I honestly don't remember if she asked or got them sent automatically. I will try to remember to ask her.

Language aptitude test and MLAT here too. She’s currently in a similar state of despair and gloom. Good luck, Niam’s DD!

NiamCinnOir · 03/11/2020 23:07

Thank you @FlyingSquid, and good luck to your dd too! Have to say I‘m very glad I‘m not in their shoes, but at least it will be over quickly.

hopelesschildren · 03/11/2020 23:15

I printed off 2 practice papers for Thursday's test, but DC hasn' t actually bothered looking at them yet

Jano69 · 03/11/2020 23:50

DD is grumpy, preparing for Thursday's HAT. She says she doesn't want to go to Oxford and doesn't know why she's putting herself through this. She just wants to go through the process, get rejected and move on - her words, not mine!

My DD has been saying the exact same thing! No entrance exam for her but she's re-read her personal statement (definitely a bad move) and is convinced it's awful and incoherent and why on earth did she apply, especially as she only just made the predicted grades. Fatalism seems to be the coping mechanism here; very grateful, for both my nerves and hers, that she has the Bristol offer under her belt. Good luck all for entrance exams!
Pumpkintopf · 04/11/2020 00:30

Thanks @Baaaahhhhh

It's such hard work for them all isn't it, hope all goes well tomorrow and Thursday and all the effort is rewarded.

Johnathonripples · 04/11/2020 07:04

Good luck to all Dc today I hope it goes well and they come out feeling positive.
We have NSAA tomorrow
