University 2020 :8: Use the CAGs, don’t use the CAGs...

...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

Yes! A u-turn on A Levels but it doesn’t include BTecs. 👍🏻

Skerryberry · 17/08/2020 16:05

YES. CAGs awarded for all A levels and GCSEs.

PavlovianPooch · 17/08/2020 16:06

Thank you Snozzlemaid. Rang DD earlier and said it might happen. First choice is holding her place for her but she didn't know what to do now that she's got used to the insurance. I'm so bloody relieved!!!!!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/08/2020 16:07

So does this mean that pupils who may have been upgraded due to the algorithm may now be 'downgraded'?

SnapSnapDragon · 17/08/2020 16:09

They didn't reverse upgrades in Scotland. There will be a huge mess for university applications now. Would have been so much simpler if they'd made this decision before results day.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/08/2020 16:09

If their CAGs weren't as good as they results they got on Thursday?

mumof42020 · 17/08/2020 16:14

Happy tears 😭

Divoc2020 · 17/08/2020 16:16

Only 2% of grades were higher than CAGs. I suspect they will be kept the same. Uni places may have been confirmed on them.

Not ideal, but none of this is.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 17/08/2020 16:17

keep the higher grade of the two if last week's results were higher than CAG I think

KingscoteStaff · 17/08/2020 16:17

So what on earth do UCAS do now? Tell the universities they have to give the newly-upgraded students deferred places for next year and then lift the cap to expand the places so as not to disadvantage the Year 12s?

MulierLite · 17/08/2020 16:17

The Ofqual statement states that the student gets the higher of the CAG or the moderated grade - so there should be no downgrades.

Divoc2020 · 17/08/2020 16:19

Ofqual statement here: www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-from-roger-taylor-chair-ofqual

ThankyouPeter · 17/08/2020 16:23

Well what a shame for Btec students who have been forgotten about yet again.

Thanks for clarifying...I did wonder how it could impact those where grades may go down...great news
ShaunaTheSheep · 17/08/2020 16:38

More clarity on the details for uni places will come in the next couple of hours, according to BBC News24.

Aragog · 17/08/2020 16:43

Wonder what this means for universities now?

DD and her boyfriend are both pleased to have the grade boost. It won't make a difference to what they are both doing now. DD's course is full and her boyfriend got his first choice, despite his lower grades.

Divoc2020 · 17/08/2020 16:46

I'm really pleased for everyone who suffered downgrades - I hope a way forward can now be worked out.

This won't affect DS as he got his CAGs and is not going until next year anyway (planned gap year).

Gymntonic · 17/08/2020 16:49

@ThankyouPeter @YouthClub Jo Maugham (QC Good Law Project) has said they're still looking at grounds to appeal the decisions re btecs too. Might be worth following him on twitter

Good news. Let's wait and hear from universities.
Equally pleased that GCSE students don't have to go through this. The stories would have finished me off.
Has Gav resigned yet? Maybe my MP will come out of hiding now

Venicelover · 17/08/2020 16:54

Meningitis jab if he hasn't already had it.

MillicentMartha · 17/08/2020 16:57

Really happy for those affected! Cross fingers for BTEC!

Very good news for the downgrades but as Kingscote says what happens now . What a complete shambles, luckily Ds got his first choice and although his grades were downgraded he still met his offer. So no change regarding University but what happens to those who now want their first choice . Reading have apparently already just come out and said that they may not be able to honour all original offers

Sostenueto · 17/08/2020 17:16

Happy for all and glad gcse don't have to go through what our lot did so much.

Sostenueto · 17/08/2020 17:17

That pesky B gone and A restored! AA*A yay!

KingscoteStaff · 17/08/2020 17:19

Well-regarded Universities in cities might well feel that they can find extra accommodation and expand up to the new cap, but won’t that mean that the lowest regarded universities won’t survive?
