University 2020 :8: Use the CAGs, don’t use the CAGs...

...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

Think we get moving in dates from Exeter next week. Not sure about York but since term doesn't start until a bit later there I'm not quite so worried about that one.

mumsneedwine · 21/08/2020 18:11

DD had to book a date and time. We have an hour to get her in 😳

aibutohavethisusername · 21/08/2020 18:54

Is anyone waiting to hear from UCL are accommodation?

aibutohavethisusername · 21/08/2020 18:54

That should say ‘re’ accommodation.

Snozzlemaid · 21/08/2020 19:33

My dd is off to Exeter and has been desperately waiting to hear about accommodation. She's heard today she's not got any of her choices or anything on campus.
They say they've got a contract with one of the private blocks so have offered her that instead.
She has been eyeing up another private block in the city so she's now got to decide again what she wants to do.
I know she'll be fine wherever she goes but she's annoyed at the moment at not getting any she picked.

Empra Has your dc heard what accommodation they have got at Exeter?
DuckyMcDuck · 21/08/2020 19:41

Has anyone heard about Warwick accommodation or know when we might hear please?

MillicentMartha · 21/08/2020 19:47

When DS1 went to Warwick 4 years ago, their accommodation offer was really late - early September, iirc. He got his first choice, though, because nobody else wanted it, I suspect. He ordered his preferences by cost, from cheapest to more expensive.

Thanks @MillicentMartha.

I need DS to be on the ball re booking a slot as I work in a school so would have a real problem if he cant book weekend move-in time

Sorry to hear you did not get your DD's choices - was Exeter their first choice? Hope you can sort it soon. My DS got his accommodation offer today, luckily got his first choice. We need to take out another mortgage I think!
MillicentMartha · 21/08/2020 20:19

Ducky, ditto. I work in a school, and am a divorced parent. I’m praying for a weekend slot, otherwise he’ll have to go up alone with a couple of cases and I’ll follow him with the rest of his stuff the next weekend.

Badgerstmary · 21/08/2020 21:29

Snozzlemaid was Exeter your dd’s 1st choice? It was my dd’s 1st choice but UCAS originally downgraded her. Now she will be getting her CAG’s she knows she is in & has Exeter but may not have halls onsite. I’m guessing they’ve run already on campus she’s got no chance! Fed up of waiting now. Just want her to know now. I hope your dd’s halls aren’t too far from campus.

Snozzlemaid · 21/08/2020 21:34

Yes, Exeter was her firm and she got accepted on results day, so no delay in getting her place. Accommodation applied for months ago.
Now looking at private and everything is mostly full now.
She's away for a couple of days so we won't have chance to look properly together until Monday. Everything will be gone by then.
Uni have offered a room in a private block as they guarantee accommodation but it's a lot further away than she would like.
But looks like that's it. I'm sure it'll be ok but she's not happy.

The room they've offered is close to train station which isn't too bad for Streatham but her course is half at St Luke's and that's quite a walk away. But being close to train station there will be plenty if buses I guess. I hope you hear soon too. Sounds like they're really struggling with lack of rooms.
JufusMum · 21/08/2020 21:40

I’m so confused. DD’s Ofqual grades were BBB, CAG was ABB. Today she received her final grades from school and it’s back to BBB. Is this a mistake?

mumsneedwine · 21/08/2020 21:47

@JufusMum yes that's a mistake. UCAS should have the correct grades and will have passed on to his firm and insurance. But call school Monday

Looks like my DS is in exactly the same position as your DD. Exeter is his first choice but he missed out on his offer initially - now with CAG's in place he meets his offer but is waiting firstly for his place to be officially confirmed (which apparently won't be until Mon/Tues), and then for his accommodation to be allocated. He's worried he'll be stuck somewhere on his own out the back of beyond! Sounds like campus accommodation has all gone already. I suppose there'll be many others in the same boat though. Hope they all get somewhere they're happy with

How are the other Edinburgh people getting on? @TheDrsDocMartens any word for your daughter? Dd had her accommodation offer on Wednesday evening. It wasn't one of the 5 she had listed as preference but looks really nice and flats of 5 which is ideal. She hadn't chosen it as it has coin-operated washing machines rather than app-operated (I kid you not, this was her main selection criterion!), and is a bit further off from other halls, but neither are major issues. It is in the same price band (cheapest) as her chosen ones, but they are charging £800 less Smile. And it's in a naice bit of town (organic corner shop, don't you know).

Empra123 · 22/08/2020 07:46

@Snozzlemaid Dd is restarting at Exeter having deferred at Christmas. She has specific accommodation needs due to autism (she deferred last year because she couldn't cope with where she was living) so we had her accommodation confirmed before A level results were out

Dd2 isn’t going to try now. They put her off with their attitude but also with her current one she moves On 5th and Edinburgh promises a decision by 7th.

That's good to hear all sorted for your daughter. Hope things are better for her this year.

Grin DS seems to think he can manage a term without needing to use the laundry. Hope he realises he is wrong, I told him he might be Jonny No Mates after a few weeks!

thesunwillout · 22/08/2020 09:29

I just had a thought. Am going to advise DD that she can swill out pants in the sink with a bit of naice detergent.
Just have visions of her bunging 7 days worth, on their own into a machine.

Maybe I'm underestimating her. But she's not very practical 😂

Empra123 · 22/08/2020 09:50

@Snozzlemaid thank you. She seems confident about restarting. And the autism support team at Exeter are fantastic. So fingers crossed! Her twin is starting at York this year so I'm just hoping they never need me on the same day!
