...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

Just remember @WellWoman that even in a normal year universities get grades before college and candidates. They'll be putting a lot of pressure on ucas to get hold of them. Might not take too long before they confirm

WellWoman · 19/08/2020 10:34

Gymnastic

That is a good point, thanks. I am delighted to find anything to feed my normal optimism.

I should also say how pleased I am overall, and how proud of our 18 year old who have been so resilient through these last few months. I hope they all get the chances they deserve in this next phase of their lives.

Sostenueto · 19/08/2020 10:43

Sostenueto · 19/08/2020 10:44

Sorry meantwellwoman!

WellWoman · 19/08/2020 10:46

Kingscote

Yes he has called Bristol and they said they can't do anything until they have his grades via the official system.

We have asked the university coordinator at his school to call us to have a chat about whether there is anything else that can be done. I am sure the unis want to sort all this out as much as we all do. I really feel for the staff dealing this, having to adapt to all the changes on the hoof.

WellWoman · 19/08/2020 10:48

Gymnastic, sorry for typo in your name. Am using smartphone in bright sunlight and couldn't see it had autocorrected.

WellWoman · 19/08/2020 10:49

Bloody hell its done it again!

Gymntonic Gymntonic Gymntonic! Take that Samsung!

Gymntonic · 19/08/2020 10:52

Just heard on radio. Ucas will have all grades by Friday this week and onto system by Saturday. Former head of ucas thinks universities will confirm by early next week

Gymntonic · 19/08/2020 10:52

@Sostenueto that's my next name sortedWink

WellWoman · 19/08/2020 11:00

Oh that is a bit more good news. Thanks MNers, you are being a great help.

Gymntonic · 19/08/2020 11:05

She also said that she believed that with the exception of medicine, which could be expanded with NHS permission this year and next, the talk of all universities and all courses being full had been exaggerated. The need for covid friendly campuses had made things trickier but, with the cap lifted, she thought most students would be accommodated at first choice university and course. Was on radio five as I was driving if anyone wants to listen to it themselves on BBC sounds. Definitely reassuring for anyone feeling the heat today

Sostenueto · 19/08/2020 11:13

Thanks for that link goodbye passed it on to friends who are waiting on Durham.

Sostenueto · 19/08/2020 11:14

Lol!Gym it's morning and that's my excuse!Grin

Bowbridge · 19/08/2020 12:49

Thank you for sharing the ucas update you heard on the radio, @Gymntonic. We are continuing to have our fingers crossed that DS gets to uni this year.

Peaseblossom22 · 19/08/2020 12:50

Is anyone else feeling more angry rather than less as time passes . I realise this is partly because ds met his offer on the day so although he did drop a grade we didn’t have the horror of some people’s experience . It just feels like each hour brings some new ramification of the whole stuff up .

Whether that’s overcrowding in accommodation , worries about the impact of this on Covid security or module choices . Things were going to be difficult anyway but this is ridiculous, I not a violent person but left alone with Gavin Williamson and that awful man from Ofqual I would not like to be responsible for my actions .

They have stuffed up the A levels and now they are going to stuff up his degree and university experience . And the worst thing is that no one seems prepared to take responsibility , apparently student loans are also in chaos because so many people have made changes etc and they will have to pay out so much more so they are now saying that payments will be delayed.

Lightuptheroom · 19/08/2020 13:01

We now have the CAG. They are claiming that they are the same as the grades he was given last Thursday. We can appeal to the school but I have no idea how. I can't go into detail here as way too outing. DS is devastated

JufusMum · 19/08/2020 13:02

Ok so this is not graded related and sorry if it’s TMI but I’m worried. DD has just turned 18 and starts uni in four weeks. She still hasnt started her periods. Slim and athletic, eats like a horse. Had hormone test aged 15 and all came back normal, but still no sign of periods. She will not see doctor again and now she is 18 I can’t force her. Completely in denial and refusing to pack sanitary protection for uni. She believes it will never happen, will not discuss it.
Guess I’m just looking for a hand hold really.

Lightuptheroom · 19/08/2020 13:06

Would she speak to a nurse instead of a GP?

MillicentMartha · 19/08/2020 13:18

@Lightuptheroom, so the school issued him CAGs almost two grades lower for each subject than his predicted UCAS grades? Gosh, that’s a bit of a drop. Nothing like that hinted on a parents evening or on a report? My school issue, ‘on course for’ grades and ‘working at’ grades on their reports. This shouldn’t have been such a shock if the school was communicating with you both properly.

I’d be tempted to take his insurance at this point.

OP posts:
Lightuptheroom · 19/08/2020 13:24

His insurance is unconditional , no thanks to the school. I haven't had a report from them since January, the grades were based on a report due out at Easter that hasn't been issued yet. There are some other things but way too outing.

Monkey2001 · 19/08/2020 13:24

@Lightuptheroom that sounds very unfair, can they explain it?

Gymntonic · 19/08/2020 13:31

@Lightuptheroom sorry hear that. The appeal process for CAGs hasn't been published yet. The insurance offer would be my preference too in the current situation
@JufusMum worrying for you and her, no doubt. Any familial history of similar on either side? Did your DD see a consultant previously? Would she agree to a re/referral? If hormone test was fine, low weight and exercise are other factors. Hope she finds her way through it

RainbowDash101 · 19/08/2020 13:39

So sorry @Lightuptheroom, that is unbelievable especially from an independent, and I think you said earlier his mocks were BBC. Have you seen the group on Facebook called 2020 A level grading support group

JufusMum · 19/08/2020 13:43

Light and Gym
She will not speak to anyone, nurse or GP. No history on any side of similar, I started at 14. Her cousins both at 13.
She is just completely in denial and refuses to engage in discussion.

Newgirls · 19/08/2020 13:46

Light up - dd had one low cag. School said they had to allocate it as they had run out of higher grades. She is pissed off but at least has her place. Has that happened at your school do you think?
