Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

Good grief. DD got an A in mocks for one subject, the one where she probably would have got a B in an exam and I’m worried she’ll get moderated down to a C. She thinks she got an A because the paper was stitched together using questions from past papers and a couple of them were questions she’d used to revise the night before ...

I think they just need to make it an actual lottery. A big tumble roller and you pull out your grade, seems fairer.

Seriously can’t sleep now. Heading for hot chocolate. And resisting the urge to wake DD up and ask her what she got in mocks in one of her subjects, that I’ve forgotten!

seedybird · 11/08/2020 23:18

In a minute, I'm going to wake up and this will be one of my wackier dreams...

IAmTooBloodyHot · 11/08/2020 23:20

Anyone else feel like they've dreamt the whole of 2020? It gets more and more bizarre......

IAmTooBloodyHot · 11/08/2020 23:21

Ha crossed post

Snozzlemaid · 11/08/2020 23:21

Dd did half-arsed mocks in two of her subjects. Nothing like exam conditions. And no mock in her third. So not sure how this will work.
What a mess this has all turned out to be.
Not looking forward to Thursday.

DadDadDad · 11/08/2020 23:23

If you are capable of dreaming the last six months then might I humbly suggest you get psychiatric help immediately. Shock

DS is still waiting for his mock results. They were due to receive them in the last week of the spring term, but events got in the way.

Ironoaks · 11/08/2020 23:29

He is able to infer his mock grades from the raw scores in each paper (which he did get back) but that won't be the case for many of his peers.

offandaway · 11/08/2020 23:32

It gets worse .., how can they use mock results? Only some schools did them properly and in time. I know at the DS’ school, they always mark them really harshly anyway so as not to encourage complacency and nobody gets an A* in the mocks, even though maybe 40% do in the real thing. Madness!

offandaway · 11/08/2020 23:34

Is anyone else seriously concerned about this Gavin Williamson? What has happened there?

Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:36

jellybabiessaveslives erm I actually had to attend a raffle where we had our names pulled out of hat to get into local grammar school. Too many people had passed obligatory 11+ and not enough places in Grammar school. I have never won a raffle in my life. It was 1963. I never recovered from the fact I passed the 11+ but could not go to Grammar school. I could only take CSEs and got 2 jobs to pay for evening classes to get GCEs ( O levels). I got 4 O levels and 3 CSEs at grade 1 that converted to 3 0 levels at grade C. But not going to Grammar school ruined my chances for University. ( Different in those days)

Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:38

My Dgd very ill during mocks which were disastrous for her. She was in hospital 2 weeks later.

Cafeconleche · 11/08/2020 23:38

How on earth can using mocks be a fair compromise?? They’re not externally marked or moderated, they’re taken at different times by different schools with different/reduced content. What a clusterfuck

Sssloou · 11/08/2020 23:39

So what about course work? Or that SURELY you would expect improvement from mocks. As well as some doing them in Nov whilst others in late Feb/early March.

Just the usual “spin” they think they can buzz word it out of any issue. If they took 20 seconds to sense test this proposal they would be knocked back in an instant.

Official grades and resits were already an option - adding in mocks and slamming on a marketing spin “triple lock” strap line - is a lazy, sloppy, patronising, diversionary tactic - standard BJ.

But he is serious underestimated this yoof generation and their ability to harness the power of social media and campaigning.

Tin hats at the ready.

Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:40

My Dgd willing to analyse you daddaddad
She's hoping to study psychology!Grin

Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:42

It's a blooming farce!

Hoghgyni · 11/08/2020 23:43

In one of DD's " mocks" they started the paper in one lesson and finished it in another. They had to write one essay from another paper in an hour long lesson. Her maths mock was done under exam conditions, but it was a solitary mechanics paper, never a strong point. They were meant to do "real" mocks after l9ckdown. Maybe they'll announce using year 12 exams next. They exceed her firm offer & match her predicted grades for UCAS.

Railingsohno · 11/08/2020 23:43

It just gets worse. How could they think this was a good idea?!!!!!Shock

DadDadDad · 11/08/2020 23:43

Sostenueto - if you look back it's seedybird and IAmTooBloodyHot who require the psychoanalysis.

(By the way, have you got very good at correctly typing psychology in the past couple of years Grin - it's a real pain).

Hoghgyni · 11/08/2020 23:44

If you are capable of dreaming the last six months then might I humbly suggest you get psychiatric help immediately ...as Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower.

Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:45

😁😂@daddaddad

DadDadDad · 11/08/2020 23:46

I've already suggested on another thread that soon Boris is going to announce they will award SAGs - student assessed grades - where the candidates write down what grades they think they would have got. After all, they know better than anyone how they were doing, and of course will be totally honest.

nightsoutasap · 11/08/2020 23:49

Sorry, not read the whole thread. Dd’s situation is as follows:
Took the IB

Predicted 39
Moderated work 37 (being appealed by school)
Mock 37
Offer (Edinburgh) 34
Awarded - 29.
Rejected about a week ago.
Cant get through on phones, emails not responded to.
I really think that she deserves to be considered in the same way as her A Level peers are....does anyone have ANY idea as to how we can get through?

seedybird · 11/08/2020 23:49

Ahhh, but I meant only the last 24 hours was a dream @DadDadDad Wink
Sostenueto · 11/08/2020 23:53

Got no worries about psychology as Dgd top student for that. Maths she was 4 at Xmas but illness and mocks probably lost her position there and biology had always been middling. Am deeply worried about grade drops even though she has contextual and a lot of leeway. Hearing bad vibes about Cambridge International students dropping as much as 2 grades😦
