Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

Any one speculating that results will not be issued on Thurs - put on hold pending a review........

Bouledeneige · 11/08/2020 21:26

Oh god don't Sssloou. I think that would be awful for the students. They've just been sitting there since March thinking about this day. I think the Government will want to avoid that at all costs.

thesunwillout · 11/08/2020 21:26

Oh no, I'll combust

Bouledeneige · 11/08/2020 21:26

Also I think the universities are depending on this process to determine their financial futures.

AChickenCalledDaal · 11/08/2020 21:28

ssslou nooooooo don't say that! My anxiety levels can't take it.

And term starts really soon at some Scottish universities, including the one that DD is holding as insurance, so I don't really think it's an option.

Newgirls · 11/08/2020 21:34

St Andrews don’t do clearing so any scooping up of places will be to those holding offers.

I imagine the ‘extra’ places will come from fewer international students.

Just a few months ago we were worried about some unis going under so I think this will help plug the financial gap. I’m sure that was a factor in deciding to upgrade again.

Newgirls · 11/08/2020 21:46

School staff and uni staff will be scheduled to work on thurs so changing that would be very unpopular all round!

Sssloou · 11/08/2020 21:50

Well the weather forecast should add to the drama “thunderbolts and lightning v v frightening” ..........

Ironoaks · 11/08/2020 21:52

@Sssloou don't put ideas into their heads! 😲 We've already waited nearly five months!

spababe · 11/08/2020 22:04

@Sssloou I thought that too but Unis might still go ahead and switch some/all offers to unconditional

HesMyLobster · 11/08/2020 22:07

They wouldn't!! Would they?!!

Alittlewornout · 11/08/2020 22:13

@Monkey2001 I get what you are saying however as most Scottish students have unconditional offers to Scottish unis on their higher grades AH grades usually suffer from uncondionalitis. In other words once that uni offer is in some pupils just dont put as much effort in so AH grades aren't as good. However this year teachers will have estimated likely grades on performance to date ie March with no account of uncondionalitis. Estimates will no doubt have been optimistically fair by teachers but will not have taken into account any potential hiccups on the day. I don' t blame them and would do exactly the same if I was a teacher. Grades should be expected to increase this year but granted perhaps not to the extent they have. I am very interested to see what happens on Thursday with A levels and I sincerely hope all the DC get the results they deserve. I know my dd deserved every one of her top grades as she worked her socks off and consistently achieved A grades brought the year and in prelims.

Sssloou · 11/08/2020 22:17

Just listening to News at 10 - saying that:

  1. Eng, Wales, NI moderation system is “fairer than Scotland. (Is this true?)
  1. UK Govt will make a reassuring announcement in the morning (Wed)
  1. Govt have asked Unis to hold places for appeals.

So this might mean clearing is different if unis comply?

Or will the Uni’s just plough on ahead to get bums on seats?

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 22:44

Just seen that Gav is set to announce that A Level students will be able to use their mock results for university entrance. You couldnt make this shit up.

suze28 · 11/08/2020 22:46

It's a bit mind boggling really

IAmTooBloodyHot · 11/08/2020 22:48

I don't think my nerves can take much more.

ThingDoer · 11/08/2020 22:49

@ThrawnCow hardly fair when many kids didn't do mocks - my dd's school was scheduled to do them after Easter - crazy I know and will be interesting to see if their maverick head changes that in the future.

IAmTooBloodyHot · 11/08/2020 22:54

My DD just said that a few kids cheated on their mocks at her college, mobile under the desk. Hmm really fair 🤦‍♀️

SnapSnapDragon · 11/08/2020 22:56

What a totally bizarre decision. Schools have very different approaches to mocks, setting them at different times, making them more or less difficult.. Not a level playing field at all!

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 22:58

They don't know what mocks are, do they? Not a help for DS as I think one of his mock results was a grade down. I guess lots of pupils underperform at the mocks. The standard is inconsistent between schools. Lots of pupils are just getting geared up for the main event (like DS). Gav is a moron.

MillicentMartha · 11/08/2020 22:59

Mocks? Absolutely crazy!

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 23:00

Ah yes, MM, but at least it's NOT THE SAME AS SCOTLAND, FFS.

Railingsohno · 11/08/2020 23:02

What a crock of 💩 Can they pick and choose or is it all or nothing?!!!

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 23:04

So the Scottish pupils get the better of the deal. Surely for most pupils CAGs will be higher than mock results?

MillicentMartha · 11/08/2020 23:05

We’ll be picking and choosing here. Maths, both, FM, calculated grade, CS, maybe mocks! Grin A friend’s DS has suggested he makes his own certificates too!
