Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

@Divoc2020 the video starts straight after the questions I believe. So they finish questions, and no further instructions appear before video starts. Hope that makes sense ! DDs friend sat and waited through the whole video 😂

DS had his last 7 lessons and his test on 18th April was cancelled. He has done his theory but his driving instructor has been working for the police since lockdown and isn't starting back up, sadly. He'll have to wait until next summer now.

Millicent that was unlucky Sad

PortusCale · 09/07/2020 12:35

Are you able to book a driving test now? DS was due to take his theory test the day after lockdown so it was cancelled. He rebooked it also week and passed it yesterday but there seem to be no driving tests available in our area?

And yes to the click/hazard question - his instructor advised him to click once then wait a second and click again. Seemed to work for him!

Divoc2020 · 09/07/2020 13:11

I think they're currently only offering tests (which will start from 22 July) to people who had them booked, but then cancelled.

This page explains it:

PortusCale · 09/07/2020 13:28

Thanks Divoc2020 will have a look.

AChickenCalledDaal · 09/07/2020 13:37

Dropping in to mark my place. DD has a "leavers assembly" on Teams this afternoon, to which we are invited. I'm picturing lots of embarrassed looking 18yos, with mum and dad cuddled up to them on the sofa Grin. Not quite the normal rite of passage, but at least it's something.

seedybird · 09/07/2020 13:52

Thanks for the new thread and I’m now adding over-door hangers to the next shopping list Grin

We added coasters to DD’s uni bag today. She still can’t decide whether to stay home until January or go to London in October - either way, that bag is bulging at the seamsGrin

MillicentMartha · 09/07/2020 14:12

I’ve just bought a couple of suitcases in the Dunelm sale. One thing I found DS1 needed often was a Ryan Air sized cabin case, he kept nicking mine. DS3 will be travelling home by train for most holidays (if uni goes to plan) so he’ll need a fair sized case for all his clothes (and no doubt washing) etc. I’ve bought him two cases that will nest that he can keep up at uni.

When DS1 went to uni we bought him a couple of these sort of storage bags - initially used to put duvets/ pillows in etc. However they turned out to be useful for storing things in under the bed or on top of the wardrobe too.
And when we came to empty his student house he just shoved all his bedding/ towels etc in them to bring home in the car.

If you're going by car the big blue Ikea bags are awesome. Just chuck stuff in them (shoes if like my DD).

MillicentMartha · 09/07/2020 15:02

I got DS1 some collapsible storage crates as well, so they could slot under the bed once unpacked.

also supermarket bags for life, which work for both supermarket shopping and fold down into the empty suitcase on top of the wardrobe. DD2 (graduated this year) is handing over most of her stash to DD3 who is starting this year.
specialted · 09/07/2020 15:49

Just bought ds some blue and orange bedding from b and m bargains which I think is lovely. He's not impressed but as he showed no interest in coming with me he has to live with my choice of colour scheme! I'll see if he decides to come shopping for kitchen stuff with me, otherwise he may end up with me buying some plates with dinosaurs and tractors on!

truelove · 09/07/2020 16:21

I can’t recommend highly enough vacuum packing bags! Had to move DD into second year accommodation in Durham last year and for various reasons only had a miniature hire car as ours had been written off the week before. Managed to get all clothes, bedding, books/folders etc into said tiny car (could even see through rear view mirror!) then had a trip to Wilco when we got there to get kitchen ware.

MillicentMartha · 09/07/2020 16:44

Don’t leave buying kitchen stuff to the September moving in day. The supermarkets etc near the universities look like coronavirus panic buyers have swept through. Food is probably ok, but duvets, saucepans etc, no chance. Unless you pre-order and click and collect.

Ikea on results day. Get free meatballs if show results.

DuckyMcDuck · 09/07/2020 17:16

I know I keep asking questions but this is all new for us so I wondered if anyone has a first-timer Uni shopping list they are happy to share please Flowers. (In my day, 30-cough years ago, everything was provided in the kitchens in halls)

DS is totally unwilling to engage atm, not sure if he's nervous, doesn't want to jinx it or just leaving everything to the last minute as per usual but it's making me nervous

nicky2512 · 09/07/2020 17:43

DD just got her offer changed to an unconditional. I didn’t think that was happening any more?
Happy anyway as it’s definitely her first choice and we don’t have to worry anymore about what happens to in moderation in her tiny classes compared to last years much larger groups (only 3 in her French class).

KingscoteStaff · 09/07/2020 17:45

Do you mind saying which institution, nicky?

nicky2512 · 09/07/2020 17:55

KingscoteStaff Queens in Belfast. We are in N Ireland and she had decided to stay at home as her health hasn’t been great.

SeasonFinale · 09/07/2020 18:00

I think once the applications closed on 30 June then the unis could do that. Any applications after then go straight to clearing applications.

nicky2512 · 09/07/2020 18:08

That’s fair enough then. Was definitely a surprise to us!

Monkey2001 · 09/07/2020 18:11

DS got his first choice of accommodation today Grin which means he is ready to think about Ikea lists. Won't need so much stuff as he will be catered.

Monkey2001 · 09/07/2020 18:13

Congratulations @nicky2512, nice not to have that results stress.
