Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

@spababe My dd has her heart set on her first choice place, but, as it is an aspirational offer, then we have been managing her expectations throughout the process. Absolutely, aim for the skies, but you have to wear the safety gear too.

Ironoaks · 19/07/2020 12:41

Have your DCs got their heart set on one place or are they more flexible?

DS strongly wants to go to his firm choice; it's the only place in the UK with that course structure. He is likely to get the grades, although obviously nothing is certain.

If he misses the offer then the firm choice university will hold his offer open for a year if he wants to take exams in October, but he might decide to just accept the insurance place and start this autumn.

DuckyMcDuck · 19/07/2020 13:11

DS preferred his insurance Uni but the course at his firm so I'm hoping he wouldn't be too unhappy if he didn't get his first choice. Both need high grades so I'm dreading the car journey to school if he sees first thing that he hasn't got either.

Snozzlemaid · 19/07/2020 13:41

@Hoghgyni

I went down to Crinnis last week thesun and pretended to be Alison Moyet spinning around to Is This Love. Many a happy day spent at the Radio 1 Roadshow with chips from the Wimpy.
It's very different place these days. Told dd all about how great it was and she's jealous they don't have it to enjoy in the way we did.
MillicentMartha · 19/07/2020 14:04

Ducky what time does his school open for results? Track should be online at 8am, so he should know his university by then.

Oh, sorry, Ducky, I didn’t read your post properly. At least Clearing will have lots of good courses if it comes to that. But I’m crossing fingers for all our MN kids.

DS’s firm and insurance have ended up being the same offer, once the STEP 1 exam was cancelled. So not much use as an insurance.

DD is very much set on her firm choice of UCL... she has a contextual offer for History so I’m hoping she gets the grades.
Her insurance is Exeter, Ancient History & History so a great second choice. I am trying to do the prepare for the worst in case but she has practically moved to London already.

Hoghgyni · 19/07/2020 15:24

Snozzle DD is exactly the same. She glazes over when I mention Sunday afternoon roller discos, the pointless redevelopment (not) and how the sand is different. She prefers Caerhays and anywhere involving a long drive to get there!

Hoghgyni · 19/07/2020 15:28

DD didn't really have much choice with her insurance as it was the only one offering lower grades than her firm. She decide a couple of months ago that she really doesn't want to go there & would be willing to join the clearing scramble if necessary. We'll see.

Snozzlemaid · 19/07/2020 17:09

You still live around the area too then?
Hoghgyni · 19/07/2020 17:23

Not quite as close as you!

Hoghgyni · 19/07/2020 17:25

...but we have had issues with a mineshaft in the garden recently.

thesunwillout · 20/07/2020 09:34

Ah fellow southwest ladies, I'm in the South Hams, so had rather a trek to see anyone at the Colleseum, but at least got to see some stuff!

DuckyMcDuck · 20/07/2020 10:03

Blimey, the Cornwall Colleseum! That brings back some hazy memories.

We were at Plymouth Poly and went to see Marillion (my choice) and Simple Minds (my best friend's who was desperately in love with Jim Kerr!). I'm sure we went another time but can't remember who to see Blush

Hoghgyni · 20/07/2020 11:53

I had tickets to see Fish in Frome in March, now postponed to next year.

DuckyMcDuck · 20/07/2020 11:59

Yay, another Fish/Marillion fan @Hoghgyni Grin, there don't seem to be many of us around anymore (Only the Fish era for me though)

Hoghgyni · 20/07/2020 13:10

Snap. Marillion have a big following at Butlins/Pontins weekends.

MillicentMartha · 20/07/2020 15:11

I saw Marillion at Milton Keynes bowl in 1986! Along with Jethro Tull and Gary (we want) Moore. Happy sigh...

Another driving theory pass here. You may be interested to know that some of the hazard perception clips in the test were also on the DVSA practice app!

aibutohavethisusername · 20/07/2020 15:47

Well done to your DC passing their theory test Monkey2001

Divoc2020 · 20/07/2020 15:50

Great news Monkey2001 Smile

Seems like there'll be a long wait for the practical test though Sad

suze28 · 20/07/2020 15:54

DD1 passed her theory last Monday. No chance of the practical before she moves out on Sept 12th so we're resigned to that having to wait. Well done to those passing recently!

Lipsofchicken · 20/07/2020 17:38

Can you look in your crystal balls please and tell me honestly the likelihood of this happening.

DS has offer from Warwick for MEng (4 year degree) of A*AA, based on the grades his school put on his UCAS

Mocks in January We’re BBC, we were away on holiday over Xmas hols, he didn’t do any revision, ‘they’re only mocks’ right?!

He was seriously gearing up for his usual big grand slam at the end as is his style when lock down occurred.

If the school thought he could go up a grade from the mocks (the exams were going to be 5-6 months later, it’s totally possible) we’re at AAB, less than the course needs.

Do you think Warwick could offer him an alternative Engineering degree - the 3 year course needs AAA??

He has his heart set on Warwick, I’m being consumed by anxiety 🤞🤞🤞

MillicentMartha · 20/07/2020 17:55

Universities do often offer the BSc instead of the Masters if they meet the grades for that instead. Cross fingers for you!
