Following on from the first thread:
DD now has UKAT booked for mid-August. She couldn’t get a driving theory test booked until after the UKAT date, but will keep an eye out for cancellations.
Now, her big dilemma is Oxbridge it not....

@Cleanmean think I have answered this on TSR?

Millylovespuddles · 14/10/2020 07:11

GANFYD - I have been looking at tsr recently too, and am bowled over with the amount of time and effort you have put into helping students pick suitable unis. I'm sure you have settled many worried souls ....

Mind you, it baffles me why so many prospective med students appear not to be able to figure out if they meet even some of the most basic entry criteria !

Hi I hope it's ok for me to ask a question here, I don't post often. Dd had to appeal het predicted grades and she has now been awarded AAA. This took quite a battle with the school and I'm now worried that we've really soured relations with school. Dd is especially worried as if there's CAG this year her teacher will under predict her grades as she was completely adamant she was right, we challenged her decision and in the end she backed Doreen but she wasn't happy. I'm completely non confrontational but we had to challenge the predicted grades as we felt her teachers were being unduly harsh and would have prevented dd applying this year. It's an awful situation to be in and has created a very uncomfortable atmosphere between us and the school.

Thank you Smile I do wonder if negotiating med school admissions is not the "secret" admissions test many are sure there is, as like you say, an inability to even read a website does not inspire confidence in an ability to negotiate a medical degree (or life, really!)

TSR is so frustrating at times, I don't know why I put myself through reading some posts.

" I have applied to Keele, is there a separate form you have to fill in?"

"Guys I have 11 9s and 3500 on UCAT will I get any interviews I'm so worried."

Or my personal favourite this week...the decile confusion and the tenacious poster adamant that GANFYD is wrong. Grin

Read. The. Websites. You are literally applying to a med school you know nothing about.

opoponax · 14/10/2020 13:14

Can I please ask if any of your DCs have applied to Manchester and have had an acknowledgement email. My DD has had emails from his other three choices but nothing from Manchester. I understand they send out an additional information form for completion so maybe they just wait for that. Thank you.

opoponax · 14/10/2020 13:42

Sorry meant DS, male offspring. I'm a Mumsnet novice!

He and broski have gone rather quiet now, though..... Grin

There are lots with no acknowledgement on TSR, so seems they have not sent them out yet
opoponax · 14/10/2020 14:18

@GANFYD thank you. I know my DS ran his choices past you on TSR as (in his words) 'you know everything about everything'.

Cleanmean · 14/10/2020 14:30

Yes I agree! Ganfyd my ds has also been regaling me with tales of your clap backs, responses and helpful advice. You are a tsr legend, and you deserve an award for how much help you dish out.

MazarineBlue · 14/10/2020 15:03

Another thanks to GANFYD and the other volunteers who give up their time to answer Qs - my DS has probably been one of those asking random panicky questions! I do feel for them as whilst the info is mainly on the med school websites it's easy to get caught up in the detail of cut offs/ interview ratios etc which may not be immediately clear especially for a first time uni applicant. Although he does have a better grasp of deciles than I do (and perhaps some of the TSR posters😁)....

bimkom · 14/10/2020 15:43

We haven't heard from Nottingham yet (we have from all the others). Application only went in on Monday afternoon, but are other people getting confirmations from Nottingham?

Millylovespuddles · 14/10/2020 16:45

Getting twitchy... school have had DDs completed UCAS form since Friday and It still hasn't been sent away! She has emailed the careers teacher for an update, but still waiting for a reply. I'm dying to contact him myself ..... and will if we don't hear soon.
Apparently the early ones were to go off on Monday 🙄

MaddieElla · 14/10/2020 16:50

That’s annoying they they haven’t sent it when the deadline is tomorrow FFS.

@bimkom DD is at work until 8pm but as of this morning she hadn’t heard from Nottingham re medicine, but she had heard from them about her 5th choice.

She’s actually only heard from 2 of her 5 choices and her application was sent on Monday. I’m sure there’s just a lot to get through.

Millylovespuddles · 14/10/2020 17:06

I know .... I'm pacing up and down wondering what the hell is going on!
DD said one lad had something to change, which he did on Monday. But this is just cutting it too fine for my liking!

Powergower · 14/10/2020 18:32

Finally! Predicted grades confirmed and all ok. Form with school to check and submit. And now ds asks me if he should change one of his choices...arghhh. too late it's all with school now and I'll be glad when it's submitted. Hopefully school don't forget.

Cuddle - don't worry I'm sure the teachers wouldn't compromise their professional integrity by picking on your dd. Can't believe so many schools seem to be difficult with predicted grades.

Ganfyd - my ds is another one who appreciates all the advice you've given on tsr. He doesn't go on much as he finds it overwhelming but did mention that last night was particularly crazy with last minute panic and lots of international student queries.

Good luck to everyone.

@ opoponax We've heard from everywhere except for Manchester as well - I think I read somewhere that they won't send anything out to anyone until after application deadline.
LaLaFlottes · 14/10/2020 19:40

@Powergower that’s great re the predicted grades - phew!! Bet you’re glad it’s all done.

LaLaFlottes · 14/10/2020 19:40

@Millylovespuddles what a pain they are taking so long - but try not to worry, it will go tomorrow and all will be well.

Millylovespuddles · 15/10/2020 08:57

Lala - DD got her acknowledgement from UCAS late last night and a reply from the teacher saying it was done..... I was thankful to hear before bedtime so I got a decent nights sleep!
My bigger challenge is now to find a hairdresser as we are in 4 week lockdown - I'll definitely be grey before this is over....

OP posts:
LaLaFlottes · 15/10/2020 10:05

@Millylovespuddles delighted to hear that. Great news and so good that it came in before bedtime.
Good luck with the hairdresser!

MazarineBlue · 15/10/2020 17:06

My DS has just realised he has an acknowledgement from Nottingham that's been lurking in his spam folder for a few days - trying not to nag him to keep checking nothing else has slipped through the cracks!

Powergower · 15/10/2020 19:18

Really hope school submitted the form today, no confirmation from them but I doubt they'd forget.

Mazarine - I told ds that he will have to check his UCAS and emails regularly from now and was told to 'Just chill mum'. It's gonna be a long year 13!

Milly so pleased you got a good nights sleep.

LaLaFlottes · 16/10/2020 08:55

@Powergower I was told to chill out yesterday too!

At least it's a sign that our DC are more relaxed than we are Smile
