Continuation of the previous thread for those of us with children who are just finishing their 3rd year at university (so either "graduating" in 2020 or going into year 4 in Autumn 2020)..........

My twins' degree results will be out in late July. Good luck to everyone else waiting for finals results.

Congratulations to your DDs Carriemac and Penelopeplums Congratulations to Best and enormous sympathy for your loss Flowers

Haff I hope the result comes back soon so you can make some plans.

Nothing much to report here. I worked all day in school on Monday then til lunch on Tuesday when I left to drive to Manchester to collect my dad. I stayed overnight then brought him back to Devon yesterday along with DD's cake that my aunt made. DD is 21 today so has friends round including goodbye's DS4 - I haven't seen him for ages! I'm about to go and collect a curry as that's what she wants for her birthday meal, if I can keep my eyes open long enough.

Carriemac · 23/07/2020 18:43

Penelope look at the old threads - You might remember who you 'were'

goodbyestranger · 23/07/2020 19:28

A very, very happy 21st to her Malbecfan! I didn't know DS4 was coming round so glad to hear it via MN, but then I've been away from home for a week. That means one less for DS3 to cook for which is great as DS2 has come down from London for a few days so numbers are currently up. Also, curry sounds fab! Hope they have a lovely evening, all of them.

Horsemad · 23/07/2020 19:28

Congrats to @penelopeplums' DD, great result. 🙂

Any news yet for your DD @bigTillyMint?

My DS is away at his friend's again. He received a letter yesterday from Dept Health & Social Care, asking him to participate in a Covid-19 in-home antibody testing research study.
Participants are selected randomly from a NHS list of patients registered with a GP and will be sent a finger prick test to do at home.
It says the test is not 100% accurate at an individual level but that the research will help them estimate how many people may have already been infected.
I don't think it's a scam... 🙄

penelopeplums · 23/07/2020 19:30

@Horsemad I got that letter too, plus another re a different Covid study which they paid me £25 for !

Horsemad · 23/07/2020 19:46

Haha, he'd probably prefer the letter that pays him £25, I think!!

Haffdonga · 23/07/2020 19:59

@Carriemac and @penelopeplums enormous congratulations to both dds. Flowers

DS got his covid results back within a pretty impressive 12 hours (test self administered in a local car park at 11.30am yesterday, results by text and email 11.30pm). Negative! So our quarantine is over and trip to the lakes back on and not even delayed. Smile We're relieved but not surprised because ds was feeling absolutely fine.

Interesting for your ds to get offered the antibody test, Horsemad, and have a good celebratory meal.

penelopeplums · 23/07/2020 20:03

That's good news @Haffdonga. My DD has tested negative, her boss at work tested positive. Because of her job they are all tested regularly and can get tests as and when they need them - she's had one last week and will have another this week.

Horsemad · 23/07/2020 20:49

Thanks @Haffdonga, we went for our meal last week, it was very nice and felt safe with good social distancing measures in place.

@penelopeplums, 2 of my sister's work colleagues have tested positive for antibodies but she hasn't. I'm quite surprised she hasn't contracted it from them, as they work in very close proximity to each other. 🤔

SabrinaThwaite · 24/07/2020 09:11

Re Covid antibodies - friend’s daughter (who can’t remember being ill, just a bit tired and run down) tested positive for antibodies, the rest of the family tested negative, despite the dad being ill with classic Covid symptoms for several weeks.

Eve · 24/07/2020 10:23

@Carriemac and @penelopeplums congratulations on the results. Good luck to those still waiting.

I'm tempted to get an antibody test as I was in Madrid for a week in Feb with work and spent most of March and April with an awful cough which I attributed to bad hayfever - now I'm wondering.

BestIsWest · 24/07/2020 11:26

DD was hospitalised a few weeks ago with what the doctors believe was post covid complications of asthma - she had two negative tests. Is it possible for the public to get antibody tests now? Getting the test results was a joke- she had four tests in total but two were lost.

SabrinaThwaite · 24/07/2020 14:14

My friends had them done on the way into France as their DD is working there this summer. I think you can get pay to get them done in the UK via BUPA for instance.

Xenia · 28/07/2020 14:15

One twin got the expected 2/1 today which is just as well as his next course requires it. The other gets results tomorrow.

Great news Xenia.

bigTillyMint · 28/07/2020 17:26

Congratulations @Xenia

Still no word from DD Hmm

Horsemad · 28/07/2020 21:49

Well Done to Xenia's son and fingers crossed for his brother for tomorrow and also for bigTillyMint's DD - the waiting must be agonising.

fiftiesmum · 28/07/2020 21:55

This must be a difficult 24 hours for you Xenia celebrating for one twin while still awaiting results for the second one.

I asked DS when his results were coming out (having been watching everybody on this thread telling of results) - he said oh a few days back got a first - didn't know whether to curse him or hug him.

goodbyestranger · 28/07/2020 22:21

Yes well done Xenia DT. All the best to other DT.

Xenia · 28/07/2020 22:29

Well done on the son of fiftiesmum.
My sons need the degree cert (or a marks form which takes at least 2 or 3 weeks to get) to register on their next course but I cannot see a system on the Bristol website to pick up a degree cert like their friend did today - he drve to his university for the day to pick up the cert (not Bristol). Anyway hopefully that will be issued in time.

Just catching up - well done to loads of DC!

Our box room is continuing its metamorphosis ... having been excavated earlier to turn it into a passable guest room, it's now an electronics testing lab. Though for some reason the soldering iron is set up on the end of the dining room table.

Horsemad · 28/07/2020 22:39

Lol at your DS's laid back attitude @fiftiesmum. If I got a first, I think the whole world would hear me celebrating! 😆

fiftiesmum · 28/07/2020 22:57

Seems there was a conspiracy between him and DH to wind me up as they knew I was anxious to find out so they arranged to wait until i asked.

Parker231 · 29/07/2020 08:30

Can breath again - DT’s have both got firsts. DS in engineering. He has decided he will do his masters (wasn’t sure he was going to go this route). He has a post grad training scheme job in Singapore lined up for when he finishes. He should be there now on a summer scheme placement. DD did languages and already has accepted a job offer with the EU. She is waiting for her visa (has Canadian passport) and then needs to find somewhere to live although can stay with my DSis to start with.

Time to stop holding my breath waiting for their results.
