Vet Medicine 2021

Hi, wondering whether there any other parents or students on here applying for Vet Med this year to start in 2021? I was following last year's thread which was very useful and informative, and was hoping for a similar thread this year for the rollercoaster ahead, especially now that things might be very different to previous years.

My DS is probably going to be applying to Liverpool, Bristol, Surrey and Nottingham.

Hi, just checking in. How are interviews going and how are the dc’s doing with the (not unexpected) exam cancellation news last week? Ds is doing ok on the exams, just getting his head down and waiting to see what is announced in terms of assessments. Frustrated still nothing from Edinburgh either way though. Not easy for them dealing with the ever changing exam/in school/out school situation and interviews too. Hope everybody is doing ok.

Happy new year. School here is also online but no announcement made yet re exams....still officially going ahead but lots of speculation that they won't. DD is doing ok, she had H&K interview last week. They kept her 35 mins and she came out pleased but needless to say, we are not holding our breaths! She still hasn't had interview invite or rejection from Surrey so that wait, along with Bristol continues. It is tough on them all.

Update! DD emailed Surrey as she had not heard anything from them. They replied saying they had invited her to interview in November! She (and I) had checked inbox/spam/UCAS /Surrey portal everyday since October and nothing. They were very apologetic and are interviewing her next Wed 20th...said it was IT glitch...so if anyone else is waiting, best email them.

iwasw How scary to think she could have just left it and never even known! Just goes to show tat being proactive is sometimes necessary. DS had is interview with Surrey yesterday, so he's still waiting to from them, Nottingham and Bristol. Nottingham keep sending teasing emails saying things like they will be letting people know 'imminently'.

I know! My instinct was to leave the admissions staff alone as they are probably inundated but thankfully all is well, at least she has a chance. There was a comment somewhere that the Surrey interview was 90 mins...is that true?Hopefully Nottingham will put your DS out of his misery soon (in the right way). This waiting makes a long January lockdown even longer. Stay safe all

iwasw I'd say the Surrey interview probably was that long, yes, but hard to say for sure as DS went to join the meeting and was told they were running about 25 minutes behind schedule, so I'm not sure what time it actually started. It's not as bad as it sounds though, as it's MMI style so there is a lot of going in and out of virtual rooms. I think he said each 'station' was about 5 minutes.

DS just checked Track and he has an offer from Surrey AAB

That’s great news @doistayordoigo. What are his thoughts so far on preferences? DS still hoping for an interview for Edinburgh but wiuld be more than happy going to Surrey.

He probably favours Liverpool but is waiting to see what response he gets from Nottingham. Although it's the only one we didn't visit he said it looked really good online.

Thrilled to say DD got an offer from HK today. Over the moon. Surrey interview tomorrow so it was a great boost for her.

Is anybody else waiting to hear from Edinburgh? The silence is excrutiating!

DD was literally just told that she has an Edinburgh interview yesterday so there's still hope!

DS had HK interview early Jan but nothing since. Waiting to hear from Edinburgh - nothing at all. Previously Liverpool interview & rejection & rejection from Glasgow without any contact - altho both of those before he had received his autumn A level which improved his low cag of C to A*. Was planning to sit A level Chemistry to see if can improve cag of B to A but all feels a bit uncertain now & hard to motivate to study until more certainty about exams. Not in school as Y14 so if no exams I'm not sure where that leaves him.

I don't know the A level system but I just wanted to send a message of support. It's such a tough process on him and you. Take care.

Good news here today, DD got Surrey offer. Thrilled is an understatement!

Congratulations iwasw Is that two or three offers she has now? Does she have a preference?

She has 2, HK & Surrey. At the moment HK is no.1. On hold for Bristol but less keen on there. Notts rejected pre interview. So happy for her. Big push now for grades. Still no news here whether exams will go ahead or not.

Absolutely, a timely boost.

DS was rejected from Nottingham this week. He thought it was his best interview, but lots of other people also got rejected and thought it had gone well too, so may be they just had lots of good candidates. He says he's not bothered, and it does make his decision easier to make, as Liverpool had always been his favourite but he was wavering over Nottingham. So I'm assuming he will put Liverpool firm (AAA) and Surrey insurance (AAB). Still on hold with Bristol, but I think he preferred Surrey anyway and their offer would likely be AAA. I can't actually believe he is in the position where he has a firm and an insurance offer to be honest
