Vet Medicine 2021

doistayordoigo · 27/06/2020 18:00

Hi, wondering whether there any other parents or students on here applying for Vet Med this year to start in 2021? I was following last year's thread which was very useful and informative, and was hoping for a similar thread this year for the rollercoaster ahead, especially now that things might be very different to previous years.

My DS is probably going to be applying to Liverpool, Bristol, Surrey and Nottingham.

iwasw Sorry about your DD's rejection from Notts. Being on hold with Bristol is not bad...it just means they've looked at her application and decided to keep it in the mix until they have more information.

Waiting for Edinburgh here too and on hold for Bristol. 🙄

Colliemayhem · 12/12/2020 08:44

DS disapponted to get a rejection on Track from Glasgow last night. Hoping his Surrey interview goes well next week.

kpandthesunshineband2 · 12/12/2020 09:13

Ds rejected by Glasgow too yesterday. Didn’t even get the ethics test.
A bit sad as was where husband & I went to uni & also my dad before that.

doistayordoigo · 12/12/2020 09:32

Sorry to hear about the rejections from Glasgow (I hate the word rejection!) From what I understand they had 800 applications for 70 places, so I'd try not to take it too personally, even though it's obviously very disappointing. I thought the odds with the Nottingham numbers were bad, but the Scottish unis numbers are even worse!

Ah flip it, sorry to hear about the Glasgow news folks. It's hard Sad

mumsneedwine · 14/12/2020 09:44

Hang in there ! You only need one offer 🤞🤞. Sending best wishes

Colliemayhem · 14/12/2020 10:45

Had the e-mail from Glasgow now, it was just on Track before. It said they had 800 applications for 72 places & they interview around 220. Ds disappointed as he felt he had made a good job of the ethics questionnaire. Focus now is Surrey interview this afternoon. 🤞

Scottandcharlene · 14/12/2020 18:22

It sounds like a particularly tough year this year, good luck with interviews still to come.

iwasw · 15/12/2020 19:08

It's a good news day in this household, DD was invited for interview in H&K. She's delighted, it's her 1st so it's a great confidence boost.

doistayordoigo · 15/12/2020 19:12

Congratulations iwasw That's really great news! When is the interview?

DS had his interview with Nottingham yesterday, but they won't find out the results until mid-January apparently. All this waiting is hard!

FuelledByGin · 15/12/2020 22:16

Great news @iwasw 👍🏻

iwasw · 15/12/2020 22:35

Thanks. It's Jan 7th which is great as she will have time over the Christmas break to prepare and it's clear of mock exam time too. How did Nott go?

doistayordoigo · 16/12/2020 07:26

He thinks it went okay, but everyone on the Student Room forum seems to have said the same, as I think the interviewers were very good at relaxing the kids. I think it was more relaxed than the Liverpool interview as it was a bit longer, so more time to settle. Who knows though!

More finger crossingSmile

shockthemonkey · 16/12/2020 09:04

Hope you don't mind if I jump on here... congratulations and commiserations in equal measure.

I am helping someone who has an interview at Edinburgh. It takes the form of three MMIs followed by an online Skills Assessment.

She is happily preparing for her three MMIs - Edinburgh have given information about the areas they will be exploring in each.

Does anyone have any idea how Edinburgh's online skills assessment works? I am sure it replaces a meaningful task you'd have been doing had you done interviews in situ. She is stressing about how to prepare for it.

[She got bad news from Notts, is on hold at Bristol, and is waiting to hear from (and is very optimistic about) Glasgow.]

doistayordoigo · 16/12/2020 15:55

Hi shockthemonkey I'm afraid I can't help as DS hasn't applied to either of the Scottish unis. You might find it quite hard to find any meaningful information as the unis usually have a non-disclosure agreement in place meaning the applicants can't divulge any information about the interview process. My only advice would be to say she needs to try and relax. From the two interviews DS has had so far I would say that the interviewers want people to do well and try to help and support as much as possible.

In other news....DS just got an offer from Liverpool Grin Grin Shock
I am so happy for him, not least because today is his 18th birthday and we're in tier 3 and can't even go out to celebrate or meet family.

iwasw · 16/12/2020 16:17

I have no advise re scottish unis either sorry.

Yay! Congrats to your lad and happiest of birthdays to himSmile

shockthemonkey · 16/12/2020 16:31

Thanks iwas and doistay, I will pass that on!

The mind boggles as to how you can show your skills online.

Very pleased for your DS's offer, doistay. And for everyone else's offers.

Colliemayhem · 16/12/2020 16:48

@doistayordoigo that’s brilliant news about Liverpool . congratulations to your ds & happy birthday!

kpandthesunshineband2 · 16/12/2020 20:02

Congrats on those with Liverpool offers. Ds not so lucky with that & got rejection today. Shame as he thought interview went well. On the bright side he heard he has a HK interview . Not head from Edinburgh at all yet. Am wondering if his assessed grades from last year are having an effect which is doubly annoying but may just be the way the offers go with such demand. Anyway Biology A level result tomorrow - keeping fingers crossed!

doistayordoigo · 17/12/2020 07:28

kp sorry to hear about Liverpool, but good news about the HK interview. As one door closes and all that.... There doesn't seem to be much talk about Edinburgh on the SR forum, so I'd say no news is good news there.

OP posts:
shockthemonkey · 17/12/2020 10:03

I think Edinburgh are notifying international students first. They take a large number of international (which now includes EU).

kpandthesunshineband2 · 17/12/2020 18:36

On a brighter note ds got his autumn A level Biology result today A* up from a cag of C. ( although wonder if the C has already cost him a couple of chances).

Colliemayhem · 18/12/2020 18:33

Much excitement here. Sitting refreshing Ucas Track and it suddenly updated with an offer for Surrey! Couldn’t ask for a better early Christmas present.
