Vet Medicine 2021

Hi, wondering whether there any other parents or students on here applying for Vet Med this year to start in 2021? I was following last year's thread which was very useful and informative, and was hoping for a similar thread this year for the rollercoaster ahead, especially now that things might be very different to previous years.

My DS is probably going to be applying to Liverpool, Bristol, Surrey and Nottingham.

Have all those who have applied there heard from Liverpool re interviews?

Yes, DS has his interview with Liverpool on Monday The initial invite went into his spam folder though so it's a good job they sent a reminder (albeit after the initial deadline to respond)

Thanks @mumsneedwine. He did spend a lot of time talking to the veterinary nurses last year at the vet practice and is clear that isn’t what he wants to do, but needs to be able to articulate that.

So interview one is dode, DS thinks it went okay but who knows...

If anyone would like any info I went to Liverpool uni for vet med and have had interviews and offers at RVC, Bristol, Liverpool and Edinburgh around 7 years ago mind, but happy to answer any questions . It's a crazy process so happy to help in anyway I can.

Hi. I'm new to Mumsnet. It's lovely to hear shared worries. My dd has applied for Vet med in H&K, Surrey, Nottingham & Bristol for 2021. She is an Irish candidate with 'home' fee status due to common travel area agreements. Does anyone know if Surrey have finished issuing interview invites? She has had neither invite nor rejection. I know H&K are ongoing, Notts are due from today and Bristol could be the new year. We are muddling through this intense process alone as we don't know anyone who has navigated Vet through UCAS before and neither does her school. I think all the kids (and Mums!) who manage to complete the paperwork deserve a medal! She has applied to Dublin also and will be applying to 2 University in Poland. She's determined it's the career for her....I hope so!

Hi @iwasw, our numbers are increasing! Good luck to your dd. My ds has an interview for Surrey on the 14th but I don’t know whether invites are still being issued, I assume they are. We certainly saw the interview info on the events tab of the self service portal before the email came through. I have been scanning the forum on the Studentroom too and people are asking the same question there. It is a tortuous process! DS has had mock interviews with Vets arranged by the school which have been really helpful because it has made him realise where he needs to do some more prep and reading - even though I had pointed him towards various resources, he needed to hear it from people outside the family. We are now waiting to hear whether he has interviews for Glasgow and Edinburgh but that will probably be in the New Year now. I am taking the view that no news is not a rejection! 🤞

Thanks so much for the reply, I don't feel quite so alone! I put a question up on Student room. It appears some others have also heard nothing . Nottingham have just kicked off their interview invites I see....still only silence here. As you say, we'll assume no news is good news until they say otherwise. Best of luck to you and yours.

Hi iwasw I've been reading the student room forum to get my information! It seems everyone is panicking that they haven't heard anything, when actually it's like Colliemayhem says, no news is not a rejection. It sounds like your DD has a good chance of getting a place if she's applying to four unis here, Dublin and two in Poland.

Colliemayhem Good luck for your DS's interview with Surrey on 14th, my DS's isn't until mid January as he didn't book a slot quickly enough...the only date left, and it's in the middle of his mocks week

He got an interview offer today from Nottingham, but the general consensus seems to be that they will be sending them out all week, so hopefully you will get them...also, check the spam folder as it sounds like quite a few have ended up there.

Glad I found this thread! My dd is so stressed out at the moment (lots of issues not just uni). She has applied to RVC, Edinburgh, Bristol and Nottingham. I think from the comments I have been able to reassure her that no reply yet is fine and that some universities are taking longer than others - this is still stressful but at least she will know why she hasn’t heard anything.
It is such a long process and I understand why they need to be so thorough but it definitely adds a whole lot of stress in this house!

Hi FuelledByGin Bristol especially is known for taking a long time, as they don't interview, and apparently can put people on hold randomly between now and March, some then get offers and others don't. I think it's so stressful partly because each uni has a completely different way of doing things. Liverpool's interview for example was only 15 minutes on Zoom.

Hi all! Finally joining the vet med chat and am new to MN too! DD has applied to Cambridge, Nottingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. She has a Cambridge interview this Friday but is a little worried as hasn’t heard from Nottingham yet and others have so fingers crossed that they are sending them out in batches! Hi again everyone. It sure is a stressful time for them all. Update today is that DD got a standard email from H&K saying they were still viewing applications and would be in touch. No news is good news.

According to the Student Room forums, everyone should have heard one way or the other from Nottingham now, but lots haven't had emails that have been sent to them. If you haven't heard it might be worth emailing the vet admissions email address for an update.

Yep DD had to email today to check with Nottingham and it's bad news here. Seems so badly organised. She got a Glasgow interview last night though to balance it out, so isn't too upset.

Chevalgal Oh no! So sorry it was bad news, but they only need one offer, so hopefully things will go better with her other applications

@doistayordoigo Very wise words . Cambridge and Glasgow are her favourites so fingers crossed for an offer there! Good luck to your DS for his Nottingham and Surrey interviews.

DD got a rejection from Nottingham last week (4 times 😆). She was put 'on hold' for Bristol and still silence from Surrey. The wait continues....nerve wrecking. Have a good week everyone.

Sorry to hear about Notts @iwasw , by the look of the discussion on the Studentroom lots of good candidates have been rejected by Notts. Did she get an interview? Ds has been put on hold by Bristol too, the e-mail came through yesterday. Still waiting to hear from Glasgow & Edinburgh.

My DD got the Notts rejection 4 times as well! Her Cambridge interview was 'interesting' in her words so we'll have to see how that pans out... She's got a Glasgow interview in January and still waiting on Edinburgh. Yes will definitely be needing the gin here too- I know the rejections can be demoralising but all the unis are looking for slightly different things so they'll all get an offer at the place that suits them best, I'm sure.
