Thanks @Monkey2001 - every time the goalposts move with new announcements I think what fresh hell is this. Not helped by someone who misunderstood and said they would be given their mock grades late last night - which meant DD would have missed one A.
Super hard mock paper created by the school which DD took between the two med school interviews she shoehorned into one week so we could 'get all of the interviews over before Christmas and focus on studying for the exams from January' Seemed a great idea at the time! Anyway we are now so wrung out with it all.
DD is a very calm person but I can see how this is getting to her and I honestly fear for those who have pre-existing anxiety issues.
Courage mon brave!

EightToSixer · 12/08/2020 18:41

If anyone else is in Wales, we have had better news. Students won’t get any lower than their AS grades.
For DD this means that DD should get at least the AAA that she got for AS level which is what she needs to get into Exeter. She was predicted 3 x A* but would just be happy with the 3 A’s. Having felt really anxious and sick all week about this I’m finally feeling a little more relaxed. Plus it’s finally a perk of her taking AS levels.

PiggyPokkyFool · 12/08/2020 20:13

No AS levels here - delighted for your DD @EightToSixer and I hope you both get a great night's sleep

ladsmum · 12/08/2020 21:10

Stress levels pretty high here too. We made DS sit down today and consider “what if”s. Still concerned about his Biology as a private candidate but could probably appeal based on his previous performance? And probably worth a discussion with Sheffield if his maths and physics are good. A further gap year not an option and he’s not keen to do a medicine-like course and consider GEM. So we’ve found some totally different things in clearing he likes. Fingers crossed we won’t need them but...
Good luck to everyone’s DCs. All the various options (appeal, autumn resits) do keep the door open a little longer this year but all the uncertainty is so unsettling.

242Mummy · 13/08/2020 07:47

Good luck everyone!! They've worked so hard to get to this stage - hoping that they'll all clear the last hurdle.

PiggyPokkyFool · 13/08/2020 08:45

DD got in! Couldn’t get on track so headed to school and finally got on stuck in a traffic jam🎈

Monkey2001 · 13/08/2020 08:56

Congratulations Piggy DD, what a relief! There are some very unfair results out there, glad your DD was not one of the victims.

DD got in too! So pleased for her. Keeping everything crossed for all our DC - hoping to see more good news as the day goes on. 🤞🤞🤞

242Mummy · 13/08/2020 09:31

DS1 has got his place too!

Embracelife · 13/08/2020 09:31

A yes here too for dd
Going to school to find out actual grades

emummy · 13/08/2020 10:29

Well done all! What a relief! Good luck to your DCs at uni!

Shangrilalala · 13/08/2020 10:32

Lovely news for so many. It’s been a desperate time.

DD is on her way to Newcastle 🎉

PiggyPokkyFool · 13/08/2020 10:55

Well done to all the DC - I feel I cannot fully relax until we hear from ladsmum - not tagging you, but thinking of you.
Can I say a big thank you to @Monkey2001 @mumsneedwine @HostessTrolley and anyone I have forgotten for the invaluable support, advice and sanity you have brought to our lives over the last two years. We shall pick up your batons and run with them (or indeed buy batons of our own) You are StarStarStarStar's

mumsneedwine · 13/08/2020 10:59

@PiggyPokkyFool I am so so happy to hear all the good news. DD2 got her vet med place so we are really happy here too. Congratulations and enjoy this moment. Next thing you know they'll be calling you to tell they dissected a penis today 😂

PiggyPokkyFool · 13/08/2020 11:03

Oh God @mumsneedwine - does the fun ever stop?

HostessTrolley · 13/08/2020 12:05

@piggypokkyfool I’m so pleased to read all the positive posts here today - I can’t imagine how stressful it’s been for everyone - it was bad enough last year without Covid.

Dd successfully passed her first year with good marks (she sat exams at home but chose to not use her books) and is very much looking forward to moving into her second year flat after our holiday. Even with Covid, the loss of her summer term activities/first hospital placement, and the withdrawal of dissection she’s loved her first year as a med student, saying it’s everything she hoped for and more.

Hopefulmed · 13/08/2020 12:47

Congratulations to everyone with places. DD has a place too and off to Cardiff. Hope to see more good news on these pages x

EightToSixer · 13/08/2020 13:16

Massive well done to all. What a shitshow our kids have been thrown with these downgraded results. I hope all those affected find positive outcomes very soon.
DD is off to Exeter (despite the downgraded results to AAA) but a positive outcome nevertheless.
Check out these medical cupcakes I bought her...

Well my DD didn't get the grades she needed, she got AAB, having been predicted 2A*A. In fact she hasn't heard yet of anyone else in her college who got their grades for med school. This is a state non selective sixth form college that prides itself for getting above average numbers into med school.

Hattifatteners · 13/08/2020 14:02

Congratulations to all DC who have met their offers and commiserations to those who haven’t in this years’ grade madness. DS met his offer and is off to UEA after a gap year in September 2021. He attends to a highly selective grammar and only 2-3 boys met their medicine offers. The school has a very strong history sending boys to medical schools 🤔

PiggyPokkyFool · 13/08/2020 14:10

I'm really sorry to hear that @medicineappstress. DD was also predicted 2A A and at the last parents night the teacher said she might turn the A into an A after a very good mock.
She ended up with AAA (also state but reasonably selective sixth form)
They have really put our DC through the wringer.
Please see Monkey's post to me on previous page with advice on getting the teacher involved in talking to the med school.
Well done @HostessTrolley 's DD on exam success.
Amazing cupcakes @EightToSixer - I'll show DD.

medicineappstress · 13/08/2020 14:20

@PiggyPokkyFool
Thank you for your reply. I have already spoken to imperial and there's no flexibility on offers. I doubt if they'll listen to a teacher in the current state of affairs. We are appealing and if that doesn't work then she will resit in either autumn or summer. Imperial will reinstate the offer (no new interview or bmat needed) once she reapplies on UCAS.

Of course if she been given AAA then she would have been perfectly happy with bristol (her insurance). Although she would still have been very disappointed with the A in maths. And as a maths teacher myself, I know she is an A* student.

Well done to all those DC with their place.

EightToSixer · 13/08/2020 14:28

So sorry to hear that some of your DC have been impacted by the grade reduction. I do hope that the govt step in to sort something. My DD has found out that everyone in her school (state non selective) was downgraded and it has impacted so many of them. My sister is a maths teacher at a very very successful Sixth form college and they’ve has their results downgraded by an average of 2 grades. Appalling outcomes. Do keep us posted on clearing, adjustment, appeals etc.

PiggyPokkyFool · 13/08/2020 14:29

@medicineappstress you sound very organised.
Maths did sound unfair this year with no-one at DD's school getting the grade they were predicted which resulted in lots of girls losing their Uni places.
My thoughts will be with her - she has you and you have a plan(s) but when you know your child is an A* student this is a bitter pill Flowers

Embracelife · 13/08/2020 14:40

Update . Still in BSMS..
but dd was predicted a*aa
Offer was aaa
Got aab
!
Awaiting teacher assessed grades.
