Kingcote great news! Congrats to ds

specialted · 04/02/2020 20:36

Sorry meant kingscote!

FabTab · 04/02/2020 20:59

Great news @KingscoteStaff makes up for the horrible exam timetable

sandybayley · 04/02/2020 21:08

Hurray for mini @KingscoteStaff - good things come to those who wait. Will he go to one of the offer holder days?

KingscoteStaff · 04/02/2020 21:12

I don’t think so sandy, as he had a very thorough sniff round at the open day. Also, school have just okayed 2 days off for Bristol + Manchester offer holder days so I think that’s probably our lot. He needs to think carefully about which to use as insurance.

sandybayley · 04/02/2020 21:18

Makes sense. So pleased that Durham came through at last Smile

dementedma · 04/02/2020 21:18

DD1 graduated last year from the OU. (Psychology)

She put in the family WhatsApp that she is now through the “first round” for acceptance to do a phD at Lancaster and Edinburgh. What are the other rounds - she won’t explain it to me! I’m guessing interviews?
(Before I get flamed, she has mental health problems which lead to poor social skills when it comes to small talk and sees my questions as intrusive). She’s fucking hard work lol

MillicentMartha · 04/02/2020 21:37

That’s great, Kingscote! Durham do like to make people sweat.

dementedma no idea about PhD procedures, I’m afraid. Well done to your DD, though.

Kingscote a Durham offer not on a Friday? Excellent news.

Dementedma my BiL usually has to get someone to agree to supervise one of his many post grads. Then he hits the interview stage after developing his research proposal I think. I tend to lose track & glaze over.

KingscoteStaff · 04/02/2020 22:09

Hoghgyni and at 7pm, too - he said he’d given up for the day!

goodbyestranger · 04/02/2020 22:21

Very good to hear that KingscoteStaff.

PortusCale · 05/02/2020 14:33

That's great news KingscoteStaff - so glad that your DS has a Durham offer. I've just been reading the Durham thread, seems there's still quite a few waiting.

aibutohavethisusername · 05/02/2020 16:29

Good news KingscoteStaff.

KingscoteStaff · 05/02/2020 17:30

Thanks chaps - I hadn't realised how subdued he'd been until the 'normal boy' came crashing back!

Peaseblossom22 · 07/02/2020 17:14

Offer for St Andrews here , like Kingscote we had the Oxford rejection which superficially was fine as he wasn’t too hung up on Oxford but it’s still rejection and it’s great to have a positive

oneteen · 07/02/2020 17:39

Well done to your DS @peaseblossom22. St Andrews is so lovely...

Dearover · 07/02/2020 20:31

St Andrew's? Wow, that's good. Waiting for an Edinburgh here, so maybe the Scottish universities will finally start to look at their Rest of UK applicants now that it's February.

That’s great Peaseblossom - does he play golf?

Peaseblossom22 · 07/02/2020 23:25

No , is it essential ? He would happily give it a go though. 😁

Whatagoodidea · 08/02/2020 03:03

I teach overseas in a school that does both igcse and international A level while my own DC took the regular versions here. In my opinion the International exams are of a lower level and this is definitely reflected in the content they have to cover which is less. All the schools which have majority British expats do 'normal' gcse and a levels while remainder do International even if they have 'Britsh' in their name. There are about 3 doing IB

HuaShan · 08/02/2020 10:42

Congratulations on the latest offers Kingscote and Pease your dc must be very pleased. Not forgetting goodbye's dc4. I know a few people still waiting on Durham so fingers crossed offers are n9w moving again.
Mockes after half term here and ds putting the final revisions to his Geography coursework

KingscoteStaff · 08/02/2020 11:29

@Whatagoodidea I think the situation was that IGCSEs were considered more challenging than the old ‘coursework’ GCSEs, and PreUs wee considered more challenging than the old AS/A2s.

Now

Whatagoodidea · 08/02/2020 11:32

Probably but that wouldn't be the case now

KingscoteStaff · 08/02/2020 11:32

Posted too early...

Now the new exams are bedded in and their level of challenge is agreed, I think IGCSEs and PreUs have done their job and will fade away.
