@SirBObby see above!

DS’s mock results were out today. Very happy with maths and CS, but disappointed with FM. He did do some work for these mocks but I suspect he’s been a bit complacent around his natural maths ability which has never really required too much effort on his part before.

I’m happy that the mocks have achieved their goal. They’ve highlighted where he needs to put more work in and have rewarded the effort he put in over Christmas, especially in CS. DS has decided to start doing some extra work on his FM from tomorrow.

At current mock results he’d just miss all his offers by one grade, so not a bad result, really, just a bit of a surprise.

Well done to your DS @Millicentmartha.

Sounds similar to DD she hit predicted grades in two subjects (Biology and Chemistry) and missed a grade on Physics (although in fairness when she went through the Physics paper it had been marked incredibly harshly and a lot of questions she didn't even get around to answering on the second paper).

I'd have been happy to bank these grades with the Physics marked properly and a few more questions answered.

Sorry for the question, but Mr Google has been unenlightening. I'm going to guess that CS is computer science, but what is FM?

MillicentMartha · 31/01/2020 18:23

Ah, not quite as good as your DD, oneteen! He hit UCAS predictions for maths and CS, but dropped 3 grades for FM. Sad UCAS grade was a bit optimistic maybe!

Sorry, MissConduct, too insular on here. FM is further maths, also known as ‘even harder maths!’ Grin

The testing and admissions process seems much simpler here in the US. You have my sympathies. Smile

FabTab · 31/01/2020 18:54

@MillicentMartha and @oneteen Well done to your DCs. It’s good they now know where to focus.

oneteen · 31/01/2020 19:29

Thanks, @Fabtab...

Good news too - DD is going to firm Warwick...I must admit her teachers are on the whole lovely and one took time after school yesterday to have a 20-minute discussion about how she'd got on at Bham and what her thoughts were. Wine.

mimbleandlittlemy · 31/01/2020 20:21

Offer in from Manchester this evening post interview on Wednesday, standard course offer. Still Warwick to go but everything will hinge on the Newcastle offer day. It’s a long slow process this end.

MillicentMartha · 31/01/2020 20:45

It’s no quicker here. All offers we’re in by mid Dec but no decisions likely until March.

Further maths

FabTab · 31/01/2020 21:23

Great news to have an offer from Manchester @mimbleandlittlemy Manchester is my home city and - given I went to somewhere with dodgy clubs - where I feel I had my student nightlife

mimbleandlittlemy · 31/01/2020 21:27

Thanks FabTab - ds just shouted it down the stairs then went off back to shout at his computer in the way of teenage boys! He seems to be a bit tired of it all now.

FabTab · 31/01/2020 21:36

@mimble at least he shouted. Sometimes all I get from DS is a forwarded email.

oneteen · 31/01/2020 22:15

I must admit it is a long frustrating process... It would be much better to apply with results in hand...

aibutohavethisusername · 31/01/2020 22:57

FabTab I get those forwarded emails too from DD.

Just going through the calendar and DD breaks up for exam leave on 8th May...first exam 18th May...Just 9 term weeks left in school given Feb and Easter holidays.

Snozzlemaid · 01/02/2020 12:32

DD's first one is 18th May too - Psychology. Her last one is 17th June.
It's all going to happen so quick now isn't it.

TheDrsDocMartens · 01/02/2020 13:13

Just checked dd2s dates 2x 3/6 ,10/6,11/6x2, 12/6, 15/6x2

TheDrsDocMartens · 01/02/2020 13:14

Going to be a bit manic!

oneteen · 01/02/2020 13:25

@snozzlemaid Yes...I'm excited for DD at the prospect of her starting Uni and studying a course she seems to have a real natural passion for - who knows our girls may make a difference in some way to peoples health in the years to come - no matter how small.

Hoghgyni · 01/02/2020 14:09

DD may come to regret her combination of maths & humanities over the next few months. Every maths exam clashes with history. Still, gets them over with quickly.

mimbleandlittlemy · 01/02/2020 14:57

12th May is first exam for ds but that's an Oral. 18th May Psychology is the first written one here too. School doesn't let them go on Study Leave until 22nd May - until then the teachers are in their classrooms at all the lesson times and people can come and go, revise or ask questions. After half term they've gone. Last exam 12th June and over and out.

wineoclockthanks · 01/02/2020 14:58

Just got details of DS's exams, luckily no 2 on the same day. Starts on 18th May and finishes 11 June - and has his 18th birthday in the middle!
