DS is still quite poorly. We've tried to make an appt with his local GP but the online facility to book an appointment has been removed. Does this mean students who register with a GP close to their university lose access to their home GP? He's at home 5 months of the year, so doesn't seem sensible. Is it an error on the system or is this to be expected?

bigTillyMint · 22/12/2019 15:07

@Jano69, I think her have to register st home IIRC from DD

simbobs · 22/12/2019 15:25

I think they can only see home gp as a visitor. They won't be registered in 2 places.

lilgreen · 22/12/2019 15:35

Yes you can walk into any surgery as a visitor apparently.

Xenia · 22/12/2019 15:43

Yes, these days you are registered at univserity with the GP and at home are just a visitor but can still be seen. I think when I was younger you kept your home GP and just used the university medical centre so never had to change your GP which I felt was a better system.

Ginfordinner · 22/12/2019 15:57

When I asked at our local practice they gave me a temporary resident form that I have kept aside in case DD needed to see a GP here.

Jano69 · 22/12/2019 16:05

Thank you so much for all your responses, we'll get a visitors appointment arranged. What a relief....

Decorhate · 22/12/2019 17:33

I want to get ds some shoes/boots to take back with him after the holidays as he only has trainers and I think he could do with something more weatherproof. He is not at all interested in fashion. Any suggestions for brands/styles?

Ginfordinner · 22/12/2019 18:53

Doc Martens

simbobs · 22/12/2019 19:39

Both mine live in Doc Martens, though DS still has Vans, too. Docs are expensive but last we'll if looked after.

simbobs · 22/12/2019 19:41

You know I meant well, not we'll

Itscoldouthere · 22/12/2019 21:31

Lovely having them home but back to being a taxi driver (had to take a gang of young men to the Midnight showing of Star Wars then pick other DS up at 1.30am as the trains had been cancelled.
The washing machine had taken a hammering and I’ve had to buy so much food.
Just had a lovely family film time watched Blades of Glory an old but very funny, I’m starting to feel Christmassy at last!

simbobs · 22/12/2019 22:13

Know what you mean about being a taxi. We are quite rural and DS usually goes out on his bike but he had a lift to town tonight and I am honestly too tired to stay up until he will want to come home. He is with a friend so he won't be walking alone.

I have washed the whole of the laundry mountain now. No wonder I need an early night!

HoldMyLobster · 22/12/2019 23:24

I have two teens who now have driving licenses but are too young to drink so I get them to drive me places now :-)

mimiasovitch · 23/12/2019 06:47

Dd arrived home on Saturday, as soon as I hugged her off the train I started to cry Blush. Didn't quite realise how much I'd missed her. She's all good, though pretty tired. I got home from work at 10.30 and found her studying, and she did an 8 hour shift in work yesterday, but still had to study last night. The compensation is that she made £50 in tips yesterday, so I think this week will be a good one on which to work all the hours, as long as she has a week free before going back. She did complain that we're big distractions, but I'm going to work on the principle that she likes it.

Ginfordinner · 23/12/2019 07:14

DD has done quite a lot of work already. She has been watching lectures online and making notes as revision for exams after Christmas.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 08:08

Blades of Glory is very funny if not super cheesy - just right for Christmas viewing then!

DS now seems to have come down with the lurgy that DD had last week. Oh dear :-(.

I wish I could get DS to work like this. He has promised to do so after Christmas. What a shame to have DC ill over Christmas, but at least you are there to look after them, which is better for both parties.

HoldMyLobster · 23/12/2019 14:09

It's 9am here and I'm about to wrap all the children's Christmas presents as it's the time when they are most reliably going to be in bed. Teens are great :-)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 14:32

@HoldMyLobster good luck. We've done most of our wrapping today too, although now out of paper until we next go to the shops.

Contemplating having a Wine this evening after 28 days of not drinking alcohol. AIBU?

Lovely to have both dds back from uni and they're pleased to be b ackalthough dd2 said she's missing her uni life already. Good bees on the academic front as she's had 3 firsts and 2 2:1s for her first assignments and has officially been given her extra time ( although not in time for her first set of exams in January)

justasking111 · 23/12/2019 20:39

First visit to the dentist, two injections, one filling. He could not eat until mid afternoon and would not get up early for breakfast. He has iced and decorated the cake this afternoon for me. He is going back ten days early to do his work rather than try and work at home.

Ragwort · 23/12/2019 21:24

Don’t think my DS has given any thought to studying in the holiday Blush, he’s currently on a ski holiday & clearly not worried about academic stuff, his course seems to be very low key, only done one piece of work (that’s what he’s told me anyway Hmm).

simbobs · 23/12/2019 23:36

@justasking111 this is just what DD did last year. I was upset at the time as I knew she was very anxious about her work, and I wanted her to stay a little longer. She's just made that way. This year she is on a year abroad and will stay a few days more and work a lot while she is here. At least she has been out and seen some of her friends.

Benjispruce · 24/12/2019 07:24

Don’t think DD has done any uni work. She’s been working most days and on her day off went shopping with a friend and out at night. She’s still got swollen glands and muffled ears and a bit of a sore throat. Been about a week now. Was starting to worry about glandular fever but no feverConfused and obviously has enough energy to work and play. No spots on her tonsils but they do look swollen. Might check at pharmacy.
