Terfin glad another one is doing radio silence. Spoke yesterday but nothing today at all....

Morgan · 10/12/2019 20:29

I asked my DSw the college was ( as he’s a a different one to where he applied) and his reply was “ it’s nice “ 😃 no messages re timings or anything yet 😂

KingscoteStaff · 10/12/2019 21:20

DS says he’s shaving this evening ‘so if I slice myself, I’ve got time to scab.’
That’ll go nicely with the black eye...

newdeer · 10/12/2019 22:15

LOL Kingscote. They won't forget him!

milliefiori · 10/12/2019 22:22

@Coleoptera, sorry you had such a nightmarish journey but it bodes well that your DS2 wasn;t phased by it and is feeling upbeat. Fingers crossed for him tomorrow and Thursday. DS's interview must be one of the latest ones - next week.

Has your DS1 had his Cambridge yet? DS2's is this week. Feeling so nervous for him. He's already packed his bag for Thursday.

FingernailNibbler · 10/12/2019 22:29

@Coleoptera Your twins sound lovely. Really pleased DT2 is settled in well and wishing them both well! ⭐️

My D is now in Oxford (reached today afternoon) and enjoying being put up in a single room with an ensuite (apparently this was one of the reasons why she chose this college!!)

Plaintainchipss · 10/12/2019 22:53

Coleopatera

That honestly sounds so stressful! I’m glad it had some benefit for DT1. Sorry if you’ve said before but are they both applying to Oxford? If they both get in, it will be lovely for them to attend university together and share that experience. Massive good luck to your DC. I think we’re all rooting for them especially. Smile

Hoghgyni · 10/12/2019 23:06

Plaintain one is Oxford & the other is Cambridge, do no clashing.

Terf which college is your DS at? I'm just wondering if he was part of the crowd who went ice skating with DD last night and has been playing cards tonight.

Plaintainchipss · 10/12/2019 23:09

I saw that after posting aha. My apologies.

MarchingFrogs · 10/12/2019 23:50

Is it actually at least slightly quicker to do Waterloo - Basinstoke - Reading, though, as there are faster trains on each leg of the journey? My memory of having to get to Bracknell for work sometimes is that the Waterloo - Reading service was very slow.

GinWorksForMe · 11/12/2019 06:32

Kingscote, Coleopatera, Millefiori good luck to your DC and to everyone else of course! It seems so long ago that we all started out on this thread and I feel so hopeful for all of your children. Hope they love the interview experience, whatever happens afterwards. Smile

MidLifeCrisis007 · 11/12/2019 07:04

A piano in his room? Wow - Lucky DS didn't get one or he'd have been up all night playing Einaudi songs!

My stomach is in knots as he goes about his first interview today... I shall be a wreck by the time he leaves on Saturday!

Best of luck to all your DCs. This whole process seems very character building - for DC and parents alike!

Hoghgyni · 11/12/2019 07:08

Marching until you factor in the current month of train strikes.

sandybayley · 11/12/2019 07:29

Best of luck @KingscoteStaff. I'm working on DS1 to get a haircut before Sunday, time is running out...

I'd suggest that anyone contemplating going near Waterloo think again. It normally features in my commute and the strike is causing me much misery. The union have decided to work tomorrow to avoid disrupting the Election.

hattymattie · 11/12/2019 07:48

Good luck to all those going through today. Smile

DevaDiva · 11/12/2019 08:14

Morning all, long time lurker part time poster 😀

DD was in Cambridge yesterday. Her assessment is that both interviews were fine, but she's not expecting an offer.

After teasing a bit more out it sounds like she gave a good account of herself and had some interesting discussions. Overall she enjoyed it but isn't desperate for an offer, although I think that's partly a self preservation tactic. This whole experience has been a complete eye opener and it feels like things can get back to normal now!

Good luck to all your DCs.

milliefiori · 11/12/2019 08:21

That sounds healthy and promising @DevaDiva

DS2 has pinned all his hopes on Oxbridge. Particularly because none of his other unis have offered yet. He's the only person he knows with no offers. He didn;t go for the Bristol/Durham/Warwick/Exeter early offering unis. All his are ones that tend to offer in Spring, though some have made some offers already. It puts even more pressure on him at interview. I wish I'd insisted he put down one safe bet lower tier but he's aiming incredibly high all round.

And DS1 is pretty much decided that if he doesn't get into Oxford or St Andrews he's reapplying.

bpisok · 11/12/2019 08:21

Good luck to everyone for today.!!! And well done to mini Deva. Another one 'finished'.

HuaShan · 11/12/2019 08:42

Yes, good luck to all interviewing in the next couple of days and well done to those who have finished. DS's turn next week and after being very cool about the whole thing admitted he is very nervous now. However he is in the very fortunate position of having 4 other offers, a fantastic fall back if he doesn't get an Oxford offer and a good safe insurance, so I'm hoping he can go in with a 'nothing to loose' attitude.

Peaseblossom22 · 11/12/2019 09:00

Ds still waiting to hear if they want to interview him again , I have to say the whole thing is reminiscent of. TV game show , he says two more have been pooled this morning

littleslummygirl · 11/12/2019 10:00

Sounds like oxford is an endurance trial. Still at least they really are finding out best fit for best people. Presumably first interview is nerves, second one you get into your stride and third you are laid back?
What with this and the election I am busying myself with displacement activities. Poor DS has far smaller excitement that is barely getting a look in

aibutohavethisusername · 11/12/2019 10:08

DD has gone this morning. Well done to all the DC who have gone through the process.

Peaseblossom22 · 11/12/2019 10:10

I can’t help feeling that the longer it goes on there is less likelihood of him being interviewed again . Just wish they would let him know. He has quite enjoyed the first two but with no expectation of getting an offer , says they gave him a ‘ nice try’ look !
