@NotEnoughTime - sending you good vibes for an offer.

It would be interesting to see what other universities people have applied for. I'm guessing Durham, Bristol and St Andrews feature heavily.

Sandy my DD has applied for Exeter, York, UCL and QMUL as well as Oxford.

milliefiori DS2 got an offer from LSE but turned it down to do the course he preferred at KCL and hasn’t regretted it for a second.

Sandy my grandson has applied for Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Durham. And Oxford in the sunny south! He wanted ease of rail travel, of course Oxford is a pain but he'd accept the awkward rail journey if he had to Wink

Thank you Sandy.

At my DS's school Durham, St. Andrews and Exeter seem to be the 'second' choice of the Oxbridge candidates.

Ironoaks · 11/01/2020 11:54

DS hasn't applied to any of these 'usual' choices popular with those with similar predicted grades: Imperial, UCL, St Andrew's, Durham, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Exeter or Bristol.

He prefers campus universities to those scattered across a city (Cambridge is the exception due to their unique course). He'd ideally like to be able to walk to lectures, and wants to be able to travel home within a couple of hours if needed.

Imperial, Warwick, Bath and Nottingham for ds. He didn't like the look of the course at Durham, St Andrews was too far

DD has offers from Imperial, UCL, Bristol and Southampton. She didn’t choose Durham due to distance and cost, plus they required FM.

DS has offers from Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle and is waiting nervously for C and Durham. On a very down day last week, he said that if he doesn’t get either of the last two and he does get his predicted grades, he might look at Exeter or Edinburgh through clearing.

A lot of pacing going on here today...

Is he a History applicant Kingscote? Sorry, lost track.

Bristol, Bath, York and Imperial College are the other choices for DD.

@KingscoteStaff - how annoying. Hurry up Durham and sort yourself out.

In other interesting news DS1 has an interview to be one of those people (actually men let's face it) who pull the covers over the outside courts at Wimbledon. I wonder what they'll ask him? I don't think it's a highly skilled job Confused

How fantastic to have the chance to work at Wimbledon though Sandy!

Report
NotEnoughTime · 11/01/2020 13:29

When my DS went for a Saturday job a few years ago I couldn't believe the (numerous) questions he was asked (it wasn't for a highly skilled job either Sandy) but you would have thought he was applying to be the CEO Confused

When I applied for my first Saturday job (35 years ago) in a hairdressers sweeping up hair I was asked my name and age and then they said "See you Saturday."

I do think our DC have it a lot tougher in some ways.

I hope his interview goes well sandy. A Wimbledon tennis match and tour is on my Bucket list.

Sandy envious. DD will be on holiday so I haven't even applied for the ballot this year. DD played some exhibition matches during the tournament a couple of times, but didn't get the chance to put a toe on the actual grass of centre court.

AChickenCalledDaal · 11/01/2020 13:55

NotEnough when I applied for my first summer holiday job, they asked "Can you get here by 7am?" and then "Can you start on Monday?" Grin I was all prepared with interesting answers to difficult questions, as well!

Working at Wimbledon would be very cool. I'm guessing they might ask him about being a team player, being disciplined and maybe also coping with being very bored when the covers aren't needed?!

DS1 now has a Durham offer (not sure if I already posted that - flicked back through several pages of posts and can't see it. Sorry if I have already.) I'm happy for him as Durham is lovely. But he thinks at a push the only place he'd take if Oxbridge fails is St Andrews.

Report
Torchlightt · 11/01/2020 16:21

Is St Andrew's better than Durham in his subject?

Report
milliefiori · 11/01/2020 16:27

It's actually a different course at St Andrews but taps into one of his geek-fascinations more that the Durham joint honours.

DD is holding onto offers from Durham, Warwick & York and is still waiting for the fantasy one & Edinburgh.

Report

Oops, pressed post too soon. Exeter & Bristol were deemed to be too close to home so she refused to even take a look at open days. That's the problem with goi g to watch Exeter Chiefs play- she thinks we would turn up unannounced!

Manchester, York, Newcastle and UEA for DD. She knows what first choice would be if C doesn’t happen but not sure about insurance yet. We visited two, and she has offer days for all of them but mostly when there are rail engineering works which is a pita
