That’s my DS1 a few years ago.

Dd got a third offer today from Manchester Met, at their advertised offer of BBC. That will be it now until after January, we expect. Good luck to everyone else!

littleslummygirl · 25/10/2019 23:46

DD has all her offers in, remarkably quickly except the other place with its own board and all at the advertised grades. All good, but was hoping that she might get some reduced from advertised as she and school ticks several boxes for the things you get contextual offers for - extra form filled in etc. Not going to say in more detail but it's a bloody miracle that she has a chance of applying and getting to the point where uni was even an option, though none of it her fault.
Anyway have other DCs got mostly standard offers? And after all the stress of the PS, editing it down to size and agonising over what to include and what not, it does seem to my suspicious mind that the PS and the other stuff were barely read or simply that the computer said yes and so offers came back. Anyone else thinking that it's merely a question of predicted grades meeting published grades and that's it?

LIZS · 26/10/2019 02:45

Sometimes reduced offers, or unconditionals, are made further down the line once they have more applications in and read the ps.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 26/10/2019 08:12

Might reduced offers also happen after offer holders days?

If your DC have had offers from the two universities they are really interested in, or just the main one and an acceptable back-up, they can withdraw their application from any others.

They obviously do have to be very sure that this is what they want, though. Also need to make sure that it is those specific applications they withdraw, not their whole UCAS application.

Hoghgyni · 26/10/2019 10:33

The standard offer for DD's course is A*AA. She has one standard offer, one reduced to ABB, and another reduced to AAA or ABB if it's her firm choice. One of her friends has also had some reduced offers and a promise of £1000 If firmed. She definitely doesn't meet any contextual criteria as she was privately educated. Another friend who ticks more contextual boxes than my DD has only received standard offers. I assume universities can't claim they have a standard offer if their actual standard is different.

oneteen · 27/10/2019 09:46

Well done to everyone with their offers...

I was looking at a few stats and I'd expect to see more lower offers coming through having looked at the number of courses that were in clearing last year....www.timeshighereducation.com/student/advice/clearing-2019-uk-universities-courses-available.

aibutohavethisusername · 27/10/2019 10:56

DD has an offer holder’s day at York in February half term.

tumpymummy · 27/10/2019 11:38

@littleslummygirl DS has only been given standard offers. Reading this thread it would have been nice if he'd had some lowered offers too, but I guess it means he has something to work towards. But then he is applying for Economics which I think is very competitive (dont know why I hated the year I did of it!)

wineoclockthanks · 27/10/2019 12:41

@tumpymummy I've not heard of reduced offers for Economics from DS's peers. Would be interested if anyone else has?
He's applied for PPE and received standard 3 A's offers.

Fredericaca · 27/10/2019 19:22

Building up the courage to post here rather than just lurk. My DC has two reduced offers and one standard offer for PPE. Breathing a big sigh of relief as that takes the pressure off nicely before they have to start the next wave of English & history course work.

aibutohavethisusername · 27/10/2019 19:53

Hi Fredericaca welcome to the thread. Great news on the offers for your DC.

dippycat007 · 28/10/2019 11:25

I’ve been lurking here for a while. Congrats to everyone on their offers. My DS has 3 Offers in so far - 2 of which are reduced. I think he’s pretty happy to have some offers - takes a bit of pressure off. Now he just needs to get on with the hard work!

nodtik · 28/10/2019 18:31

Third offer today for my DS.....

Durham, reduces offer of AAB 😊 He is very pleased as this is his preferred university and preferred course!!

He's over the moon 😊😊😊😊

Ironoaks · 28/10/2019 18:46

That's excellent news nodtik

Welcome dippycat007 and well done to your DS on the offers.

Great news Nodtik

MillicentMartha · 28/10/2019 19:55

Welcome exlurkers! Grin

Good news on offers. It sounds like today’s a good day for your DS, nodtik!

My DS has received acknowledgement that UCAS has his form. Waiting for the offers to roll in...Wink Maths offers seem quite slow generally so I shan’t be holding my breath.

Well done to everyone's DC with the latest offers ...

DD back from Japan - she's had an amazing time and would seriously consider a year abroad in Japan. It's head down to get all her homework done this week because she begins her Xmas Elf job over the weekend.

Hoping that her UCAS application gets looked at by the school very early next week (I know the reference is done etc), but I think all the girls have a 121 with HT before they are sent (doh). If it's not sent by the middle of next week I think I will be giving DD a crash course in assertive skills!

sandybayley · 28/10/2019 20:30

Congrats @nodtik - that is excellent news. What was the course?

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 28/10/2019 21:09

I’ve been reading these posts avidly as dd is currently applying. Application didn’t get submitted till late last week. She was over the moon today to receive first response back from Durham with contextual reduced offer from A*AA to BBB if chosen as firm choice which has been a real boost as it’s her preferred uni.

There is so much excellent knowledge on here so can I ask if anyone knows whether reduced offers have a time frame? I.e. should she accept as soon as possible in order to ‘lock in’ the reduced offer or does she have time to wait and see what other offers come in and then make her firm/insurance choice. This is the first time round for uni applications for the family and she’s handling it all really well but there is a sense of us having ‘L’ plates on as we try to give support and navigate this stage.

MillicentMartha · 28/10/2019 21:15

That’s an amazing offer, Suki! I’ve not heard of a time limit. They can’t actually firm and insure until after they’ve received all 5 of their offers anyway, (unless they withdraw from the other unis) so I’d wait until all (or at least more) offers are in. At BBB she’ll probably not get a lower insurance offer anyway?
