Cranmer I don't think applicants to the LSE have a monopoly of stress, it's all relative and no more unattainable than many other unis in terms of grades etc. Obviously it's very, very good and competitive for Economics.

MillicentMartha · 11/11/2019 20:01

Cranmer good luck to your DD. 12% sounds pretty tough.

Well done, oneteen’s one teen! Grin

oneteen Glad someone else is at same stage as us with so many getting offers already. Dd submitted hers on Saturday. Her form tutor has said it should be sent by the end of this week. Then I'll have to try hard not to keep asking her if she's heard anything yet.

Sostenueto · 11/11/2019 20:16

Make sure that your DC check every day including spam box. Dgd nearly missed a deadline for sending proof of GCSEs off to KCL the request from them came a day after application was sent! And we still haven't heard from them ( sigh) and not likely to till Xmas.

Cranmer · 11/11/2019 20:27

Thank you Millicent. Although DD ticks all the boxes for LSE, a place is not guaranteed but she has set her heart on the course and university. I have another DC applying this year too. However, they are applying to recruitment universities where, with their grade profile to date, they are almost definitely guaranteed a place.

The tale of two children!

mimbleandlittlemy · 11/11/2019 20:29

After getting two offers in so fast, ds is quite laid back - and I am trying not to say Any News? 72 times a day.

TerfinUSA99 · 11/11/2019 21:00

Update!!

After telling DS every day to check his spam filters etc etc...he has just now said "oh yeah I got an offer from Warwick this morning. A^AA as expected" He is so annoyingly laid back!! And is delighted I have you lot to talk to so I'm not bothering him all the time about grades and contextual offer chat GrinGrin

MillicentMartha · 11/11/2019 21:02

Great news, Terf! What subject is that, again?

Congrats Terf Cake

sandybayley · 11/11/2019 21:07

@TerfinUSA99 - great news. I'm reluctant to ask DS1 anything as I just get a grunt work n return.

mimbleandlittlemy · 11/11/2019 21:09

Well done Terf. Warwick is one ds is waiting on.

TerfinUSA99 · 11/11/2019 21:31

He's applied for PPE (nothing too competitive GrinGrinGrin) We weren't expecting to hear from Warwick til late January...

I can't remember the name of the poster who's famous for spreadsheets? I wonder if she's got one going now with uni/course/offers for all of us so she can do a useful analysis? I loved that on the GCSE thread Smile

MillicentMartha · 11/11/2019 22:08

Oh yes. I haven’t seen her posting for ages. Shame, I love a good spreadsheet. Grin

oneteen · 11/11/2019 22:38

Well done to your DS Terf...

I think the spreadsheet poster is around but probably lurks more than posts.

Snozzle - Hopefully, we will have some good news to post in the forthcoming weeks...

Hoghgyni · 11/11/2019 23:23

Terf Warwick are getting their humanities offers out very quickly. I haven't heard of any reduced ones. I think they're slower on maths.

Tranquilitybaby · 12/11/2019 07:30

DD applied last Monday and has had all of her offers back already, as of yesterday.

What happens now, in her eyes there are three in the running, is it best to do the applicant days sooner rather than later and then decide on her firm and insurance.

Also what happens if her insurance has requirements higher than her firm? I know it’s a gamble but I see it that she should put her favourite as her firm regardless.

MillicentMartha · 12/11/2019 07:47

Tranquility definitely put her favourite first. Not sure about putting a higher offer as insurance. If she’s rejected by her firm she’d probably be rejected by her insurance in that case. Maybe better to put the same offer as firm if you can’t find a lower one she’d be happy with. Some unis might go into clearing and take a lower result, but often only by one grade, and that might be her insurance. Do you know if any went into clearing in August this year?

OP posts:
Hoghgyni · 12/11/2019 07:56

Wow, that is an impressively quick turnaround. DD'S firm & insurance are likely to have the same grades, but her insurance is more likely to have scope to squeeze her in.

thesunwillout · 12/11/2019 08:01

DD has taken my bank details to college to hopefully send off her application today.
This is getting real!!

Having done the rounds with 3 DC, and teaching over 35 years, whilst there is a lot of angst with all applications ( including Oxbridge etc) by far the worse experience I’ve had is with applications for Vet med. On top of competitiveness etc that you have for all applications like this, the application process is different with each uni which has tons of different paperwork to do for each uni in addition to UCAS application and compulsory work experience in a variety of contexts before application goes in. Not an option for the faint of heart !!!

I’m a lurking mum of a Vet Med applicant. You are so right Minstrel, the process began several years ago with a gathering of work experience and then crescendoed last year making sure all the boxes were ticked. The forms that the unis sent out were all different and took days to complete, then there’s silence. My dd is lucky that one of her choices interviews early so she has her first interview on Saturday, and has another one at the end of November, but is yet to hear from her other two choices. Some people hear nothing until after February/March. Her school are used to Oxbridge and medics but have no experience of vet med. Her teachers are all amazed whenever they read her personal statement as the work experience is such huge part which they weren’t aware she was busy doing over the last few years. I am sure the process is designed to weed out the non-committed ones as by all accounts the career is not for the faint-hearted. DD1 went to Cambridge and her application process was a doddle compared to this!

AWanderingMinstrel · 12/11/2019 12:20

Exactly Scottandcharlene! Good luck to your DD in interview! My DC at Surrey doing VetMed and loving it but it was a rollercoaster ride😂😂😂😂
