DS didn’t do MAT, he’s opted for STEP 1 in May/June instead. The Oxbridge thread seems to have concluded it was nasty, so perhaps you can comfort your DS with that, SoundofSilence.

DS’s school didn’t issue UCAS predicted grades either, unlike a lot of schools on here who sent them out in July. DS had to search out each teacher and get them to sign up to a predicted grade before he could submit his UCAS form, which meant that we had to wait for AS results day in Aug before narrowing down which universities to visit. A bit frustrating. He’s not Oxbridge material despite being great at maths and his form went in on Friday.

Perhaps your DS can chat to each teacher next week and explain why he needs to know what he’s being predicted for UCAS, which is possibly different to ‘current working at’ grades or even ‘on course for’ grades. Teachers should be on his side in this.

SoundofSilence
That is hard on him not to have confirmation of his predicted grades.

SoundofSilence · 30/10/2019 14:06

Thanks, Hugo, I was a bit ambiguous there, I think. I wouldn't expect the school to give written advice on which universities to consider, that's absolutely our leg work to do. I was expecting something saying, "Your predicted grades are _", otherwise however is he supposed to make appropriate choices on the UCAS application? It sounds like your DC got proper information. I'm trying to restrain myself from sending off lots of stress induced emails this week when nobody will even be at the school to answer them. Parent consultation night is next week, I figure at that point they provide meaningful information or I start sending the grumpy emails I keep drafting and deleting.

AChickenCalledDaal · 30/10/2019 15:10

We had provisional predicted grades on the end of year 12 reports. Nothing in writing since then, but DD was able to see her reference, including grades, before the UCAS form went in.

Has anyone’s DC heard anything further from UCL. DD hasn’t since her acknowledgement.

oneteen · 30/10/2019 19:25

Not sure whether this will work but some mums may or may not find it helpful...I wouldn't worry too much about not having had offers at this stage my DD's UCAS application (like many others) has not even been submitted. www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6177978

MillicentMartha · 30/10/2019 20:27

Thanks oneteen. That may help calm the fretful parents among us. Grin

@millicent - I will be fretful especially if DD's UCAS application doesn't get sent next week...but it firmly needs to be DD driving the submission in school. Hopefully, the HOS will reappear after HT Hmm.

I think the post on TSR just gives a very rough idea of where the offers are coming from and in what numbers although I dare lots of DC don't post on TSR.

MillicentMartha · 30/10/2019 21:42

Yes, the ‘fretful parent’ line is a bit tongue in cheek. Marge Simpson used to buy a parenting magazine called ‘Fretful Parent’ and it amused me as a MN user!

My DD reads Mumsnet and she finds it hilarious ...but it also means she thinks I'm fairly moderate as mums go Grin.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 30/10/2019 23:36

Hello all. I've been reading the thread but hadn't actually made it to the end before tonight. Congratulations to some of the dc with reduced and early offers.

I haven't been around these boards much since GCSE. Dd really struggled through her GCSEs but has been like a different person since getting to college and has been really self-motivated.

She submitted her UCAS early even though she hasn't applied to either of the two who must not be named. I think it was because most of her friends were early entry so she just didn't want to be left behind.

She's had two offers so far - Newcastle AAB (ABB if firmed) and UCL AAA.

Her first choice is Leeds but no word from there yet.

It's such a relief to have those 2 in the bag. She'd be happy at either. I'd prefer her to avoid London but she would love it Confused

TerfTastic101 · 30/10/2019 23:53

Hello all Smile
Lots of familiar names on here from GCSEs in 2018, it's been good to read about how well everyone's getting on with sixth form life. And so exciting to hear about offers from Durham especially reduced grade ones! Well done everyone who's survived UCAS, EPQ, etc.

My DS was an early entrant, luckily his school insists on the Oxbridge/medics getting their forms in during the second week of term, and EPQ deadline is the same. He had TSA today ("ok but essay topics horrible"), his history coursework essay hand-in on Friday, then wait and see if O offer interview....

Durham is his 'other' first choice, very closely followed by York Warwick and Liverpool. Has offers from York (reduced for good EPQ) and L'pl. He is totally unstressed about the whole thing and is binge watching box sets. Grin

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse which course is the UCL offer for?

KingscoteStaff · 31/10/2019 10:46

Hey Kick and Terf, nice to see people from those long ago GCSE days! Can’t really believe how worried I was about DS back then!

MillicentMartha · 31/10/2019 11:16

Hi Terf and KickBishop. I’ve name changed but was also on that thread, unsurprisingly.

DS has lost his voice with a half term cold and is currently whispering with his mates (who aren’t!) and playing D & D. I have 4 giant pizzas, 10 doughnuts and gallons of Pepsi Max for them. No sign of any school work this holiday. DS has managed to get himself a weekly maths tutoring job with a Y11 and started that yesterday, but that’s been the only work done.

No more movement on his UCAS application. 5 acknowledgements so we know they’ve got it.

Aibu it's for geography.

aibutohavethisusername · 31/10/2019 18:46

Ooh that’s great, well done to them.

nodtik · 01/11/2019 08:24

Fourth offer received yesterday, Bangor for a Masters Course!!

Mega reduced offer from AAB to BBC!!

Wow ... was not expecting that.

So now offers received from;

Durham
Exeter
Birmingham
Bangor

Just Edinburgh to go!

Well done to those have received offers and good luck to those who have sat the Oxbridge exams ...... xxxx

Toomanyapples · 01/11/2019 08:36

Well done to those who have got offers already!

Can I join you and ask a question please?

DS is applying for maths and I noticed on the student room that Durham has sent a form to people asking them if they have done the MAT. DS Doesnt think he has had that form. Does anyone have a DC applying for maths at Durham? Have they had that form? And what email address was it sent from? Thanks for your help!

MillicentMartha · 01/11/2019 10:58

@Toomanyapples you might get a quicker response from the Oxbridge 2020 thread. DS has applied for maths but not taken the MAT, nor applied to Durham!

Since he has missed the opportunity to take MAT / TMUA, he could think about doing STEP?

Toomanyapples · 01/11/2019 12:13

Thanks Milicent. I will try asking on the Oxbridge thread.

Marchingfrogs he did take the MAT. My question was about not getting the form to let Durham know. Sorry if I wasn't clear

aibutohavethisusername · 01/11/2019 14:49

DD has had an offer from Queen Mary a few weeks ago. She has now been offered an interview to see if she is eligible for an unconditional offer.
