Previous thread and hope you don't mind that I set up the next thread @juicy0. Just did it to ensure that we carry on chatting seamlessly Wink

Aren't the contracts usually a year? I'm sure some do stay in the same place for all their post first-year time at a university. However, some may be forced/choose to move if the landlord decides to sell, they suddenly want a change of housemates or for some other change in circumstance.

So today I got an email from SFE asking if I had my income had changed for year 2019/2020 (we filled in a CYI form)

errr still got 4 months left of the financial year - muppets!

no idea if DS2 has started looking for a house - DS1 coming home at weekend, haven't seen him since the summer (graduated 2018)

icanbewhatiwant · 28/11/2019 10:14

@NotSorry yes my dh and I both had the same email. It isn't always easy to work out what you might earn is it? It's ok if you are on an actual set wage. We aren't. Mine is a bit easier to predict. I have put a bit more than I will earn. But dh isn't sure. I'm guessing we will get asked again before the third and final payment, by which time we should definitely know. (I haven't ask ds when the third payment is, but must be near the end of the tax year)

NotSorry · 28/11/2019 10:31

@icanbewhatiwant

yes, I'm self-employed so my income fluctuates - I had to guess on previous years income - it would have been a whole lot easier if they'd have asked for 2018-2019 - in addition, legally I don't actually have to file my return for 2019-20 until end of January 2021 Confused

icanbewhatiwant · 29/11/2019 16:10

@NotSorry yes it would have been better for them to just ask for previous year. I wonder why they go back 2 years. I suppose some people don't have their accounts done until later in the year.

NotSorry · 29/11/2019 17:04

It's all bonkers - they ask for 2 years back then when you fill in a CYI they ask for a year that isn't complete - anyway, I got in touch with them and they said don't worry about it until I know my income

icanbewhatiwant · 29/11/2019 17:47

Ds didn't get the property they looked at. The letter says due to the high volume of students that viewed the property, the landlord has chosen another group.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/11/2019 18:00

Oh, that's a pity @icanbewhatiwant. Hopefully there's an equally good if not better one out there for them.

I'm so excited to have DD home for the Christmas holidays, 9 sleeps and counting!

NotSorry · 05/12/2019 09:32

yes not long to go @juicy0

2nd year accommodation update - I spoke to DS yesterday and he has done something about housing, he has found 3 girls to share with - maybe he thinks they will be tidy 😂

icanbewhatiwant · 05/12/2019 09:34

Ds wants collecting on the Friday. But I can't get him Friday as I have something on that eve. I have the school run 3.15pm and not really enough time after that. I told him I'm sure if his friend can fly home from Exeter university then I'm sure he can manage a bus to Norwich and 20 min train journey.
I have however offered to go Saturday morn instead. So it looks like he will be staying an extra night.
It will be good to have him home.
He gave up with the house hunting for the time being. They will look again after Christmas.

NotSorry · 05/12/2019 09:39

We're collecting DS on the Sunday - I offered to pick him up Friday but he said he wouldn't be ready. I think he really meant he has a party to go to. We can't pick him up Saturday as we both work in the afternoon so he'll have to wait

Itscoldouthere · 05/12/2019 11:52

I’m picking up DS from UEA on Friday, looking forward to having him home for a bit, but I’m sure he’s going to be bored pretty quickly.
He’s signed the contract for next years house, but hasn’t sent us the guarantor paperwork yet 🙄.

Itscoldouthere · 05/12/2019 15:05

Just been told by DS he has an exam on Friday 13th so we can’t pick him up, probably not pick him up till the Monday now as we’ve got lots of Christmas parties to go to that weekend 😊

sluj · 05/12/2019 16:33

We are picking DS2 up on Saturday 14th but DS1 will have to come back on the train as he doesn't finish till 5pm on the 23rd and there's no way I am making two journeys.

I'd like to take DS1 to a nice pub lunch though on the Saturday before we head off hone with his brother. Any ideas for somewhere with a car park where we can avoid Norwich Christmas traffic?

juicy0 · 06/12/2019 11:39

@sluj I'd try kings head at Bawburgh, only 8 mins from uea and good food. Otherwise the Black Horse on Earlham Road

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/12/2019 11:32

Out of interest how do you pronounce Bawburgh? DS did one of the geography field trips early on in the term to Happisburgh (which I pronounced like an American only to discover that's 'Haysbrough' to locals).

OP posts:
sluj · 07/12/2019 17:24

Good question Grin

juicy0 · 07/12/2019 18:23

That happens a lot with village names in Norfolk 😂
It's bawbrough

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/12/2019 07:48

Thanks for enlightening me @juicy0.

The Kings Head is booked, thanks Juicy

Itscoldouthere · 11/12/2019 18:41

Anyone else’s DC have exams this week?

sluj · 11/12/2019 18:57

DS had a Geography one and already has the results, happy boy Smile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/12/2019 19:22

The same here @Sluj Wink

@sluj @NewModelArmyMayhem18 DD is also a geographer !
2 sleeps and she's home and we've got a class of 2019 reunion lunch to look forward to where she can collect her exam certificates before her and her school friends head out together for the evening 😊
