Previous thread and hope you don't mind that I set up the next thread @juicy0. Just did it to ensure that we carry on chatting seamlessly Wink

How odd! Maybe he was chatting, and not focussing on where he left his bag. A relief all round, anyway. Smile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/11/2019 13:55

Well at least there's a happyish ending @sluj! Phew!

Great news @sluj!

NotSorry · 06/11/2019 14:49

so pleased for your DS @sluj

sluj · 06/11/2019 18:08

Thanks everyone, he has definitely perked up today (as have we) 😀

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 06/11/2019 20:40

goodness @sluj so chuffed!!

Have terrorised DD with warnings to be more careful with this theft so not telling her Grin

sluj · 06/11/2019 21:09

That's funny, let's hope at least one of them learns something from it. 😀

Itscoldouthere · 07/11/2019 06:55

@sluj glad to hear he has everything back, great result for him.
My DS has purchased a padlock for the lockers, I think I’ll say nothing and let him start using it, it’s probably best to be careful, a good habit to get into.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/11/2019 07:50

DH had lunch yesterday with very old friend (actually from Uni) and his son has already dropped out after starting as a fresher this year.

Hated course, hated flat mate, hated everything.
Just a reminder that despite a few bumps and wobbles we are lucky our DC doing ok...

sluj · 07/11/2019 08:18

Indeed, and it's still very early days for them and us Smile

Itscoldouthere · 07/11/2019 11:27

Oh yes @mumsiedarlingrevolta I agree, our D.C. are doing well, it’s a massive thing for my younger DS (the one at UEA) and I’m so pleased that it’s be pretty good so far 👍

Itscoldouthere · 07/11/2019 11:39

Also wanted to say how much reassurance I get from you guys her on Mumsnet, personally I find it a great support, thank you allSmile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/11/2019 12:04

DS has told me he's loving university (a rare very positive utterance from him) which is very reassuring. It's early days but good to hear, particularly as his school experience wasn't entirely positive.

Yes, this and the general 'going to university' threads have been super helpful and supportive.

My DS told me it was better than he thought it would be

juicy0 · 07/11/2019 13:21

@itscoldoutthere I agree, I've found the support here invaluable. DD is really enjoying herself. First assignment handed in this week, first netball match last night, enjoying her course and her flat and has an interview next week for a student ambassador role. She's impressed me with how well she's settled in and is taking everything in her stride in spite of the horrible headaches.
Has anyone heard of anyone being unhappy at the UEA?

CointreauVersial · 07/11/2019 13:42

DD1 is definitely loving life at the moment. I really got the impression by the end of last week that she was keen to get back to her "new" life.

I know two freshers who are struggling. One of DD1's mates is at Manchester and chose the "party" accommodation block, and found it's a little bit too noisy/disruptive for her, and in a grotty area (she brought that on herself!); also she's hating the course. And DS's girlfriend is at Westminster, stuck out in accommodation in a giant block in Wembley, no sense of community, half her flatmates don't speak English....she does at least love the course, but I'll be amazed if she's not moved home by the New Year, and commuting in.

MrsBartlet · 07/11/2019 14:03

I am so pleased with how well ds has settled. His flatmates all seem lovely and he has made friends through sport and on his course. He seems to be on top of all the life admin stuff including doing his Tesco shopping online (that is after he got over the hiccup of having one of his deliveries turn up at our home address - he won't make that mistake again!) He is coming home for the weekend and I can't wait to have him back for a couple of days.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/11/2019 15:18

Has anyone heard of anyone being unhappy at the UEA? I think it is one of those universities that seems to get the thumbs up from just about everyone!

@CointreauVersial I can think of nothing worse than being stuck in halls in Wembley - not the nicest part of London, and quite a schlepp into Westminster from there, I would have thought.

CointreauVersial · 07/11/2019 20:41

Aww, @MrsBartlet - enjoy having DS home.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 - she said if she had her time again she would have chosen a campus university, and not a London one. It really does sound miserable for her. She was quite envious, hearing about how much DD1 is enjoying UEA life.

GoldenRuby · 07/11/2019 21:26

DS has just told me his sports club are doing a black tie Christmas dinner at Dunston Hall, so he is going to buy himself a tux as better value than hiring, and he should get at least Annual wears out of it. I expect that will end up being an early Christmas present from us somehow!

MarchingFrogs · 07/11/2019 21:37

But handy for Westminster's Northwick Park campus, of course.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/11/2019 21:43

Had no idea that there was a Northwick Park campus - is that a health and social care one?

icanbewhatiwant · 07/11/2019 21:55

@GoldenRuby Dunston hall is a lovely place. A lot of the proms are held there.

@sluj what a turn in events. I'm glad everything was found.

GoldenRuby · 07/11/2019 22:33

@icanbewhatiwant that's good - I doubt I will get to see any photos though (but may be just as well in case it gets messy).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/11/2019 07:07

It's lovely to have more formal DJ/Tux options. DS doesn't do the type of things that would ever see him at such an event - not yet anyway. Hope he has fun @GoldenRuby

@MarchingFrogs TBQH as I typed my comment about Wembley/University of Westminster, a shadow of a doubt about the whereabouts of the latter's campuses are did creep into my mind. I have a rough idea about most of the London former poly universities' locations but for some reason not an idea for Westminster. For whatever reason, it's never been on my radar.

Would your DD's friend not consider transferring to a campus university for second year @CointreauVersial? Is she doing something quite niche though?
