I've just realised that my ds (who insists he will do all of his packing tomorrow) has taken the train to visit a friend who started at another uni last week, and who is having a wobble. I don't know whether to be pleased that he is such a thoughtful friend, or to be concerned that he is more involved in other people's uni experiences than preparing for his own.

mimiasovitch · 19/09/2019 18:11

We've just got back from Italy, one day to pack everything up and dd is off on Saturday. It wasn't perfectly timed, but at least our trip has given both dds some close time together. I'm having a recovery night before I start at dawn tomorrow. She has a ball in October where they mostly wear formal, so I'm hoping her prom dress still fits, as we definitely don't have time for that sort of shopping.

CheeseStraws · 19/09/2019 18:21

@simbobs that is quite sweet - you should be proud I think.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2019 18:43

@simbobs, he sounds like a great friend Smile

@mimiasovitch, online shopping is her friend Wink

DS has spent the afternoon doing admin apparently and has now emailed off to join the uni medical centre!

simbobs · 19/09/2019 18:51

I bet mine doesn't sign up with a doctor as he hasn't had to see one in living memory, so won't see the need. I will lean on him about it, though.

Mustbetimeforachange · 19/09/2019 19:04

@simbobs he needs his men acwy injection if nothing else. Or did he have it at school?

Ginfordinner · 19/09/2019 19:17

DD has spent today sorting out clothes and doing admin. Tomorrow she wil do some baking to take to uni and we will do the serious packing between us and load the car ready for Saturday. I will move the loaded car into the garage overnight as I don't want to leave an obviously loaded car on the drive.

Thanks for the new thread!
Well done to piggy’s DS. I despair of the poor markingAngry

Benjispruce · 19/09/2019 19:30

Took DD to her last free dental appointment . Was told that she continues to be free while at uni! I thought it was at 19Confused

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2019 19:38

@Benjispruce, so did I Confused

Shimy · 19/09/2019 19:43

Where are posters getting the flu jabs from? I’ve been in Superdrug, Boots and Lloyd’s and all send flu jabbing doesn’t start till October😬.

juicy0 · 19/09/2019 20:14

Well everything is ready, except me! I'm struggling today, I feel exhausted and keep welling up unexpectedly. I really need to get myself together. I know that, and I will. DH is away with work at the moment so I'll go to bed tonight and have a good howl and hopefully wake up feeling better.
Good luck to everyone else moving in this weekend!

blametheparents · 19/09/2019 20:17

@juicy0 - That’s exactly how I’m feeling today. Just getting teary at the most unexpected times.
Hope you’re feeling a bit better tonight xx

Mustbetimeforachange · 19/09/2019 20:21

We've been told October 6th for flu

Cranmer · 19/09/2019 20:41

Another one here who never went home after finishing university. We got married the week after we left (both at different universities). Two graduations and a wedding in 3 weeks. I did not even go home to get married. We married in DH family church 120 miles from my home.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary this year. I can't imagine DD or DS being married in 3 years time!

Laniakea · 19/09/2019 21:49

dh & I got married while I was still at university (I was doing I long course!) Shock

BringOnTheScience · 19/09/2019 21:58

@ginfordinner Last Brownies for us was last week. I was in bits! Our Tawny was Brown Owl when DC1 joined at 7, and said such lovely things.
Really missed Little Owl this week. There'll be a lucky unit in Manchester once they're settled in!

Northernlurker · 19/09/2019 22:09

Keep hanging in there folks!

I never went home again either. Got married at the beginning of third year, had dd1 right before successfully completing my finals. Dd1 is now older than I was when she was born.

Ginfordinner · 19/09/2019 22:39

During the week that DD missed while we were on holiday the Brownies made a scrapbook for DD and stuck loads of lovely photos and messages in it. Her best friend does Brownies with her, and came back to our house afterwards for a while. It was quite an emotional evening for her. She has had a few leaving dos with different friends over the last couple of weeks. It really does feel like the end of an era.

I don't expect DD to come back and live round here once she graduates as there aren't the job opportunities. As both DH and I uprooted when we were young we see it as a natural progression.

ZandathePanda · 19/09/2019 22:55

Ginfordinner I think the hobs are induction ones which is causing a few problems as not everyone’s new pan set will be able to be used.

Has anyone else had this?

Ginfordinner · 19/09/2019 23:11

Oh no. I even asked that question when we did a campus tour last year and no-one even knew the answer. That should be mentioned in the particulars of the accommodation.

I shall have to check DD's pans.

Ginfordinner · 19/09/2019 23:21

Heads up for anyone dropping of at Sheffield on Saturday

Sheffield Wednesday are playing at home. Kick off at 3pm. Avoid Hillsborough and the A61 North of Sheffield. I would recommedn anyone driving from the North to Sheffield to come off at junction 34 or 33.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/09/2019 06:56

That's very useful advice for families travelling to Sheffield this weekend @Ginfordinner.

With induction, if a magnet is attracted to the pan base, it will work. So, just need to find a fridge magnetGrin

Trewser · 20/09/2019 07:25

I have the opposite problem in thst i bought dd expensive induction pans for her plug in hob. Absolutely no room for it and the hob looks like a normal ceramic one.
