DD puts her clothes into one and then shoehorn it into her suitcase when she comes home - fits double the amount in Shock

BringOnTheScience · 11/09/2019 13:05

I'm so glad that the vacuum storage bags idea is proving useful!

DC1 has had their last night helping at Brownies. The parents all brought wonderful supplies & essentials: we're both really touched. Going to be such a blow to lose one of the team. I'm really dreading Saturday now.

Hope that Blame's DS is on the mend!

CointreauVersial · 11/09/2019 13:06

2nd year accommodation?! Ugh. Will barely have dropped DD1 off for the start of the first term before there's something ELSE to worry about.

I can only hope she falls into a friendship group who are a little more, ahem, proactive than she is. Otherwise she'll start thinking about it sometime next summer......

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/09/2019 13:43

Anyone recommend any particular vacuum bags? I haven't used them before & we should have room in the car, but it would mean everything was easier to carry to the room.

BringOnTheScience · 11/09/2019 14:15

I got these. They claim a lifetime guarantee & get good reviews.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but I got ds a fireproof/ waterproof document envelope to keep his passport and other important stuff in.

JennyWreny · 11/09/2019 14:33

@BringOnTheScience My DD has penultimate Brownie meeting tonight! From your post sounds like you are also a Girlguiding member? Me too and I think I've seen you on our local MN page so now wondering if I know you IRL!

@MrsPellegrinoPetrichor Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. Where did you get it from?

Ginfordinner · 11/09/2019 14:49

I saw some vacuum bags in Wilko today.
DD is also a young leader at Brownies, and has just one more meeting before she goes.

JennyWreny · 11/09/2019 14:59

I'm hoping that DD will join the uni Scout and Guide group (assuming there is one).

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2019 15:31

Some good(ish) news at last in the Piggy household. DS's Spanish remark just came back and it had been undermarked so his grade has gone up. Still not as good as it should be but liveable with.

Ginfordinner · 11/09/2019 15:48

That's excellent news Piggy

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 11/09/2019 15:50

Brill news Piggy Smile

icanbewhatiwant · 11/09/2019 15:50

I think it was way up this thread that I recommended vacuum bags. I use the Lakeland ones but I buy from amazon. I've tried many others and the air has gradually come out. Or maybe I've just been unlucky.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/09/2019 15:54

Oh that's great news @Piggywaspushed!

It's my birthday, too ! Hoorah! Cake

CointreauVersial · 11/09/2019 16:16

Great news, Piggy! We're still waiting on DD1's third paper remark - first two came back unchanged. Exams officer went on holiday last week, so it has only just gone in.

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 16:16

Great news piggy

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 16:19

Still nothing about dropping off slots here Tilly, I take it, it’s the same for you?

Shimy · 11/09/2019 16:24

Jolly good news @Piggywaspushed and a happy birthday to you.

simbobs · 11/09/2019 16:38

Re vacuum bags, I have lots but have found that they work perfectly the first time you use them but almost never when you come to using them again after letting out the air. They just don't reseal properly. Also, if intending that dc reuse at the end of term/year make sure that they are in a property with a vacuum cleaner. Most student flats don't have them (afaik) as this job is done by cleaners. I seem to remember that we had a carpet sweeper in ours (many moons ago).

Ds still not reading incoming email. When lurking I saw that he has been asked to pay his deposit (bleed parents for same) but he is blissfully unaware despite being prompted to check inbox.

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/09/2019 16:44

I've just ordered the ones on Amazon which come with a manual pump as well. Both my older children have had vacuum cleaners in their flats as they haven't been anywhere that provides anything other than the most basic of kitchen cleans every couple of weeks (& I suspect refuse if there is a mess in the kitchen).

blametheparents · 11/09/2019 16:50

Great news @Piggywaspushed - and Happy Birthday too!

DS is picking up his IB certificate today. Though how they are going to understand him I am not sure - his throat is so bad that I can't understand him! I did say that maybe the school wouldn't want him to go in and spread his germs around, but what do I know? I can't knock his work ethic and his lack of laziness, but he can be so pig-headed sometimes!

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/09/2019 16:57

Happy birthday piggy. What a day to have a birthday! Interesting how many I know with a Sept 11th birthday.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2019 17:07

It's my husband's too!

My DM lives in NYC and the inside of the WTC was built by my uncle. It's a funny old day chez nous.

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 17:38

Of course people have birthdays on 11/9! Confused
