Am I right in remembering that the single private injections had to be spread out by a bit of time .
So you went for mumps jab then 6(?) weeks later measles then rubella (poss not the right order bit you know what i mean.
Then do it all again for the next lot.

Would be very easy to miss/forget one.

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/08/2019 10:27

Only because if you didn't want the combined vaccine you probably wouldn't want to give the single ones all together, as that was the point (not one I agree with, but I presume that's the case).

Dunlurking · 25/08/2019 10:27

While we're chatting about vaccines could I recommend the flu vaccine from Boots? Freshers' flu is a thing, although it's more usually a heavy cold combined with hangovers! I've paid for ds to have a private flu jab a couple of weeks before he headed to uni for the last 3 years, and shall do so for dd this year before she heads to York. It is usually available from mid September and there's a 10% discount from Boots if you book by 10th September I think. You can book online. The Boots one is slightly more expensive than other pharmacies but covers 4 serotypes, not 3, so generally gives better cover. I think last year (or the year before) that 4th serotype that only Boots had covered was the more active infection so a lot more people who had been vaccinated caught flu than usual, because they had had the 3 serotype one from GP surgeries! Anyway, hope this is useful info.

bizzey · 25/08/2019 10:33

@Dunlurking thank you that is very helpful .Ds can get the free one from Gp as he has asthma...but according to the receptionist
not till mid October !??

I will look into the Boots one .
Is it about £22 ?

GaraMedouar · 25/08/2019 10:41

Anyone going to Bath campus accom who has received their 2 hour slot. My DS insists we have to wait for an email which may be mid Sept, but I need to know which day it is - I can’t wait until the week before really (got to sort childcare and have something on one of the days - which I will miss of course but I’d like to let people know as soon as poss just to be considerate). I want DS to phone to enquire but he won’t!

Dunlurking · 25/08/2019 10:41

@bizzey it's actually £12.something, and under £12 if you get the 10% discount. And it's available miles earlier than when GPs start their clinics. He can get it as an NHS jab from Boots though - they have a contract to do NHS ones as well - so you just tell them what surgery he's registered at, if I remember correctly. I get my NHS one there nowadays. Double check with your local Boots.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 25/08/2019 10:47

bizzey DD had the Boots one last year and didn't have to pay due to asthma, she just took her repeat prescription slip in as proof and you need your NHS number (which is on your repeat slip anyway). When you book online it asks if you have a qualifying medical condition, much easier than going to the GP for it.

I actually had a look online yesterday, it's available from 23rd September at Boots so DD will have to sort it out herself once she's there as she goes on 20th.

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/08/2019 11:19

I'd be very surprised if the Boots vaccine is different to the NHS one, but I'm prepared to be told I'm wrong! I know the over 65s get a different one.

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/08/2019 11:30

And the flu vaccine won't help with "fresher's flu"! Mine all had it at Christmas last year because I couldn't face nagging them to make an appointment in their University towns!

Decorhate · 25/08/2019 11:31

@GaraMedouar No Ds has not heard anything yet about booking a moving in slot. I think it will be next month. I would assume that as long as you log in as soon as the booking is open you can choose which day suits you best?

ZandathePanda · 25/08/2019 11:36

Boots flu vaccine is from 30th in our nearest store - but we get everything late because we are semi-rural. Too late for us.

JennyWreny · 25/08/2019 11:41

Thanks for the Boots flu vaccine tip. DD just booked hers for 24th.

Dunlurking · 25/08/2019 11:55

It's unclear whether surgeries actually give a 4 serotype vaccine to the under 65s. In theory they should according to this year's document, but in practice supply issues mean people under 65 often get the trivalent one I think (although the under 17s get an oral one I think - losing track now as ds used to get one at the surgery but then they said his asthma hadn't been active recently Hmm) www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/annual-national-flu-programme-2019-to-2020-1.pdf

Those talking about budgets/expenses/bank accounts etc etc might be interested in the spreadsheet on this site (about half way down the page) - easy to customise it and seems to have the main items on it. Most importantly, you can input the student loans and rent on the month they actually are paid and see how that affects your end of month bank account balance.

GaraMedouar · 25/08/2019 12:45

Thanks Decorhate - I will stop hassling DS then. He rolls his eyes every time I open my mouth to say anything currently!

Dunlurking · 25/08/2019 13:55

Thanks @JennyWreny that looks useful.

boys3 · 25/08/2019 14:05

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2019 17:04

RedHelenB · 25/08/2019 17:14

Tesco clubcard. You get points every time you shop Worth knowing if you haven't got enough points you can use the ones you have and then pay the difference.

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2019 18:15

We have a Tesco credit card as well as Clubcard - I'm all about the free points 😂

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2019 18:44

Bizzey said no to clubcard so must mean credit card then.
