And will you/they be paying it?

Dd is off to York. She opted for several options and got given an en suite non catered 38 week let at just under £6k

Luckily her maintenance loan will cover that and some spare. Hurrah for living in Wales as we would be paying a lot of it otherwise.

Last year dd was also earning around £10 per week. This coming year she’s got a much better paid job and will get £40 after travel costs)

Sunshineinwinter · 19/08/2019 19:46

OMG some of these prices are more than a years rent for my house! WTF!

Comefromaway · 19/08/2019 19:47

You have to take into account that this includes all utilities etc including WiFi & in some halls also includes insurance.

hopelesschildren · 19/08/2019 20:08

£275 for 40 weeks....en suite room, not catered. Was not his choice,he gave 3 choices.).
London

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 20:10

@Sunshineinwinter yes we live about 30 miles from the university ds is going to be staying at. I also own a property nearby. The rent I charge per month for 3 bed property is similar to the amount ds will be paying for one room. It's shocking.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 20:12

@Sunshineinwinter actually thinking about it. Per week it's more as they aren't there all year 😳

MadameJosephine · 19/08/2019 20:16

DS is returning to imperial college this year and is sharing a flat with friends so ‘only’ paying £550 pcm. His halls in first year were £237 per WEEK!

OrangeCinnamon · 19/08/2019 20:18

@flyingarcher I know Chi very well if you have any questions

DullPortraits · 19/08/2019 20:22

Blimey these uni digs cost more per year than my privately rented 3 bed house in a catchment area to the best schools in the county we live in! Shock

MadameJosephine · 19/08/2019 20:23

Comefromaway if he declares his asd as a disability on the application form they should accommodate his needs (pardon the pun) and if you contact the disability advisor at his uni he could potentially obtain disabled student allowance to help with the additional cost. One of DS’s friends did this due to IBS

fishonabicycle · 19/08/2019 20:36

Been looking at Nottingham Trent for 3020 (deferral) - bloody hell - it's expensive.

Benjispruce · 19/08/2019 20:42

I’m trying not to think about it too much. D D wanted to choose the uni for the course, not because of budget, which is right in the long term. I just worry about the debt she will accrue. We have been putting aside £250 pm for the last year to pay the shortfall in accommodation fee and she has saved £3k working.

boys3 · 19/08/2019 20:58

for 3020 (deferral)

now that really is advance planning Grin

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2019 21:17

NTU accommodation definitely put me off them. Also they gave a manic first come first served allocation system.

Weaverspin · 19/08/2019 21:31

Nottingham University, fully catered hall, £5800 (31 week license, so the room has to be cleared every holiday). But all meals included, plus some extras. So that's about £187 per week, all in.

I'm not sure how much 'living allowance' would be needed on top of that. I'm interested in others' thoughts on this. We will only get half the maintenance loan this year, so will have to fund the remainder. That will take some working out...

hallamoo · 19/08/2019 21:38

OrangeCinnamon - is Chi - Chichester?

DD has a confirmed place which she has deferred until 2020. I'd be very interested in any info about accommodation, costs, areas etc.

woodlands01 · 19/08/2019 21:57

UWE Bristol. On campus self catering accommodation about £5500 per year. Minimum Maintenance loan awarded. Plan is for us to pay for accommodation. DD should be able to get a job - trained lifeguard, to top up maintenance loan. I'm Maths teacher so taking on some tutoring for the first time. My plan is to cover her accommodation costs with but I don't think I'm going to manage that with working full time as well.

woodlands01 · 19/08/2019 21:59

cover accommodation costs with tutoring

sorry didn't make sense

OrangeCinnamon · 19/08/2019 22:31

@hallamoo if based at Chi campus you can literally roll out of bed and into a lecture in under 4 mins. The two offsite are Stockbridge and Fishbourne which are cheaper but much more modern. If catered they get a card to use in canteen.

www.chi.ac.uk/student-life/accommodation/types-accommodation

All Bognor course accommodation on site too and all.accommodation guaranteed. They were even offering for 2nd years too.

www.chi.ac.uk/student-life/accommodation/types-accommodation

Chichester is very safe non threatening etc...They go to Bognor, Brighton and portsmouth for the clubs. SU on campus etc

SmithfamilyRobinson · 19/08/2019 22:35

DS off to Birmingham: he has the cheapest self catering, non en suite, shared kitchen, shared bathroom halls: £5k. We were more interested in making sure he was centrally located. Would have been happy to pay an extra £1k for better facilities. Applications are very flawed!

Domovoi · 20/08/2019 08:06

Hi everyone, Swansea here, campus accommodation self catered en suite, about 5600 I think, I was Shock about this, but compared to others, it doesn't seem so bad now.

Ligresa · 20/08/2019 08:11

Bay or singleton domovoi?

Domovoi · 20/08/2019 08:19

Singleton here, just wanted to fall out of bed and into the lectures, accommodation at bay was lovely though.

Ligresa · 20/08/2019 08:21

My dd is at Bay, nice accommodation but 6k! She's just found out she has a view of the sea so she's buzzing. Seems like a lovely uni .

Bouledeneige · 20/08/2019 08:56

Self catered Townhouse at Manchester Met. Shared bathroom with another girl £5.3k. It was rated the best accommodation by students.
