I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

Good luck @mumsiedarlingrevolta.

I'm a terrible over thinker and I'm worrying that DD hasn't had a confirmation email so that she can register etc. She had an unconditional offer so apart from an email on results day from the UEA congratulating her on her place she hasn't heard anything.
We've looked on track and can only see a 'decline' button and it says her place is confirmed. She has also had her accommodation confirmed.
Do I just need to stop worrying and trust that an email will follow shortly? We are going away for 12 days soon and I hoped to have everything sorted before we left.......😬

Have those of you whose DC hadn't hear about accommodation now heard?

Assuming that emails re registration/enrolment on the UEA website (and getting a university centric email address) will be arriving tomorrow?

We've confirmed accommodation, booked to get DS to campus, not heard anything further about his student bank account (assuming no news is good news). He's still considering the fresher's wristband but not currently pushing him to make a decision. Have printed out the HC1 form (free prescriptions etc...) but read on the other thread not to complete/send it off until September.

juicy0 · 21/08/2019 08:14

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 DD has two friends who gained places through clearing who haven't had their accommodation confirmed yet.
She's also on a group chat for her flat in Barton and only 5 of the possible 12 are on it so maybe there are still more offers to be made?

We are in clearing and still haven’t had accommodation yet

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 08:35

UEA was my son's first choice. First email told him his 1st and 2nd choices accommodation (disappointingly) were not available and that he would hear later that day. Then he was given a place on campus, Paston house. He's accepted. He received another email with a link to Facebook accommodation group. He has only found 3 on there out of the 12 in his flat. One is flying in from abroad so the other has a foreign name but could of course be British. They have started up a group chat but not really making any conversation. So I hope some more come along. I saw on the UEA twitter page that over 200 accommodation offers have not yet been accepted.
Those are the only emails received from the UEA. He hasn't heard from hsbc. I've seen some posts about needing a number for the student account. I don't know what that is. The only number he was asked for was ucas code.

GoldenRuby · 21/08/2019 08:48

DS has had a registration email this morning, so things are happening. I believe they are giving out accommodation offers all this week, in batches. DS has only found 2 of his flat mates so far, although I guess not everyone uses FB.

Itscoldouthere · 21/08/2019 09:22

My DS hasn’t joined an accommodation FB group, he probably doesn’t even know it exists 🤣 he did confirm his accommodation yesterday.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 09:23

Anyone else going into Paston house? I think it's one of the biggest blocks of accommodation.

GoldenRuby · 21/08/2019 10:24

We know someone who was in Paston two years ago. They loved it. Said the kitchens weren't the best but decent size rooms/bathrooms comparatively.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 10:31

@GoldenRuby thanks. That's good to hear. The reviews for kitchen don't look good. It says limited cupboard space and only a few chairs round the table. I'm hoping it's ok.

Limpshade · 21/08/2019 10:44

Class of 2006 here Grin I have very fond memories of the place and hope your DCs will too!

CointreauVersial · 21/08/2019 13:08

@GoldenRuby - having scrutinised the email confirming DD1's Village accommodation, it looks like Courtyard A.

A certain amount of uni fatigue has set in here - after a week of ups, downs, stress, and constant parental nagging to "get things sorted", DD1 has decided she wants a break from thinking about it for a while. No worries - we have the accommodation, finance and dropoff date sorted; the shopping list can wait a while. And I have GCSE results tomorrow (pass the gin...).

GoldenRuby · 21/08/2019 13:57

@CointreauVersial good luck for miniCointreau tomorrow.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 14:04

Yes good luck for those with children getting GCSEs tomorrow. I feel for you. My oldest was much more stressed about GCSEs than the A levels. He didn't revise much for GCSEs so was worried. I think he was a bit more confident for A levels.
Son number 2 is going into year 11 so GCSEs next year for him. He's much more laid back, but also has the "can't be bothered" attitude that I'm embarrassed to say I had. He didn't do that well in his mocks. So I can't see him going to university unless he has a serious change in attitude.
Son number 3 is only 10. So a long way off GCSEs. SATS for him instead.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 21/08/2019 14:08

My dd has linked up with someone in her accommodation. She's in one of the Ziggs (is that the correct terminology?) we both really liked them on her open day visit. Also I told her in no uncertain terms that we wouldn't be paying for ensuite accommodation for her.

NotSorry · 21/08/2019 14:13

We have GCSE's tomorrow - been very stressful - not worried about DS3's results, he'll be fine

Itscoldouthere · 21/08/2019 14:32

Good luck for all those getting GCSEs tomorrow 🤞🏻

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 18:13

I was wrong on my above post saying ds had joined a chat with 3 others. It's 3 including himself out of 12. One is a girl already living in Norwich but going to stay on campus. The other is a lad flying in from Delhi
I hope some more join in soon.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/08/2019 18:46

Good luck to all Mumsnsetters with DC getting GCSE results tomorrow. I've just read in The Times that 800+ candidates got all Level 9s!

@icanbewhatiwant, who did your DS get the FB link from - the Accommodation Office? DS may well be one who doesn't chat ahead of arriving!

Did someone mention registration. Wonder if those emails are sent out by the departments or to everyone at the same time.

@CointreauVersial DS admitted that he's excited but yes, keen to zone out from the 'next stage' (could be construed as burying head in sand!!!)

Nothing from HSBC here either but assuming that is good news and that the first we will hear of it is when his bank card arrives through the post!

Have a friend whose DD is off to Manchester - she's starting on the 13th!!!

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2019 18:51

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I actually found it accidentally on Facebook last night I think it was UEA accommodation 2019
My son joined, then got an email this morning suggesting joining. Not sure if it was a link or not.

boys3 · 21/08/2019 19:27

I must admit although with Ds2 it is my second time round he has assured me that beyond his already confirmed accommodation back in July he has not had anything yet about registration, any accommodation deposit or caution money, timetable, reading list etc, etc. Swears blind he checks his spam folder too.

Fortunately i do have a doctorate in DS nagging so the same questions will be posed when he is back in this evening. That said the bank holiday weekend is approaching and start date is still a month away.

From what he says there are only 4 or 5 so far on the group chat for his flat too, although far more in his subject chat group - which also seems to have second and third years on it sharing words of wisdom Wink

More pressing concern is the imminent GCSE results for DS3 tomorrow. A lot of fingers are crossed. Good luck to the several others on the thread with DCs also getting their GCSE results tomorrow.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/08/2019 19:32

For all those worrying (including myself), the initial welcome email sent to DS last Friday definitely implied they'd be hearing more tomorrow, so don't despair.

boys3 · 21/08/2019 19:39

although this dates back a few years thetab.com/uk/norwich/2016/10/01/what-does-your-accommodation-say-about-you-23882 this may provide some light relief
