I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

I think DS2 chose the ziggs because they are iconic and he wants to say he lived in them. They seem to be the common visual image for UEA. DS1 also told him they are best value and a good choice. I have heard they are cold in the winter and hot in the summer so we will need to take that into account. DS1s village flat was boiling all year round.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 13:19

The Paston house reviews say only a few cupboards for 12...No where near enough space...Only a few chairs at the table etc. They say it really isn't worth the high cost. It's only £10 cheaper than the nice new Barton accommodation he wanted.
I should stop thinking about it and hope it's ok.
At least the laundrette is nearby 😂

Itscoldouthere · 19/08/2019 13:38

@icanbewhatiwant yes I think you just have to switch off and hope for the best.
I was hoping DS would get Hickling/Barton but when you look at the numbers there are just lots more en-suite campus rooms.
My other DS has got brand new halls where he is going to uni and he’s worried that they won’t be as much fun as they are so new (everyone will be paranoid about loosing their deposit) and expensive so will limit who wants they.
I sort of feel like you can’t win either way 🤣

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 13:59

I can remember seeing plastic boxes all stacked up in one of the campus kitchens, filled up with pots, pans and food as there was no storage. That's a bit annoying.

I wouldn't mind him down grading but the cost isn't much different to the shiny new place. I think that's the worst part. But you're right. I should stop thinking about it and let him get on with it.

NotSorry · 19/08/2019 14:26

DS is out at moment so I don't know if he's had his allocation - we were told friday that Village had all gone but it seems not if PPs are getting allocated there

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 14:36

Those getting accommodation today. Are your children getting put into a grip chat? My son didn't get told anything of group chats.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 14:37

Group*

juicy0 · 19/08/2019 14:56

Has anyone had a confirmation letter yet giving the link for online registration?

OP posts:
Missyelliottsaysso · 19/08/2019 14:59

My DD hasn’t been put into any group chats yet regarding her room. She can’t wait!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/08/2019 15:59

DS has got a Ziggurat as he wanted. Apparently link to flatmates' group chat will come soon. He has to arrive on 21st!

@juicy0 I was under the impression, after DS received the initial 'welcome to UEA' email on Friday, that they would hear more this coming Thursday? Assuming that the online registration link might be in this upcoming one?

Thanks for asking your DS1 about freshers' wristbands and events selling out. Maybe once they're in touch with new flatmates, it's more likely those of us with reluctant clubbers (and non-drinkers) may find them keener to join in the merriment? Hoping so.

GoldenRuby · 19/08/2019 16:04

@CointreauVersial which block, if you don't mind me asking. My DS is V+ too, in Willow.

juicy0 · 19/08/2019 16:52

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 thank you, I'll get DD to check her emails again at the end of the week

NotSorry · 19/08/2019 16:55

No accommodation email yet Sad

Missyelliottsaysso · 19/08/2019 17:07

Check your junk emails...my DD’s went there.
Also check application status online...my DD had to complete a few questions and watch a video about what to do in event of fire etc.

CointreauVersial · 19/08/2019 17:14

@GoldenRuby - not entirely sure which block. I'm at work and haven't actually seen the email. Will inspect it later and let you know.

The Ziggs do seem very iconic, and are apparently really sociable, but DD1 wouldn't consider anything without an ensuite.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/08/2019 17:17

DS had that attitude initially, until I advised him that we would not be funding him to have a des res!!!

NotSorry · 19/08/2019 17:45

Yes, we’ve done all of that - the application status just says it was processed on Saturday - nothing more than that - will it show on there if it’s been allocated - my DS isn’t the best at checking his emails

Missyelliottsaysso · 19/08/2019 18:08

Yes my DD said it would be on the application status what room he has been allocated.
She also said that she is looking on UEA freshers group on Facebook and there are still students that haven’t had room allocation yet.

Missyelliottsaysso · 19/08/2019 18:20

Try this www.room.uea.ac.uk then log in with your uea number and password that was used when your DS applied for accomodation.

NotSorry · 19/08/2019 18:24

@missyelliottsaysso Yes that’s where I’ve been checking - at least I know it’s right place

If your DD says people are still waiting, I’ll stop worrying- many thanks

Missyelliottsaysso · 19/08/2019 18:32

No worries...DD said that a first year student said not to worry as allocations are made throughout the week and they didn’t get their room details until the Friday!

boys3 · 19/08/2019 18:55

glad to hear people's accommodation are coming through. Judging from the info DS2 had H&B was getting filled up some weeks ago judging from group chat numbers. He's initially gone with the single week welcomefest, aka freshers, band - seemingly after a chat with some of his flatmates. He is genuinely getting quite excited, although as he's had a year's wait perhaps not surprising.

The one thing that I would highlight is that although we don't know 100s who have been to UEA it is up into the several dozen and not one has ever had anything remotely negative to say about it. I know this is just anecdotal, however still re-assuring.

juicy0 · 19/08/2019 19:25

@boys3 it is reassuring I agree. I have also been following the uea on Instagram since DD accepted her unconditional offer and it seems that graduates who posted on there this year become very emotionally attached not just to the uni but also to Norwich.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 20/08/2019 06:12

Agree DH and I moved away for work but lots of our friends still live there.

DH also insisted we went to the teddy bear shop in the city he used to walk by a lot to buy a bear for our first baby.

The one thing I didn't like about UEA is graduating in congregation hall rather than somewhere more distinguished.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/08/2019 09:06

Off to Ikea and Costco.

About 5 different lists

Wish me luck...
