I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

We're arriving at 10 also (Saturday). Expecting a major queue for the key. Then ensure the bed gets made and basic unpacking, then back to the Sportspark to watch the hockey match starting at 2pm before leaving.

juicy0 · 20/09/2019 20:19

See some of you there at 10am tomorrow morning! The car is packed and the plan is to pop to the nearby Aldi to do a quick shop en route, then unpack, see if we've forgotten anything major, pop into town if necessary and then a quick bite to eat before I head home.

Safe journeys everyone 🤞

icanbewhatiwant · 20/09/2019 21:20

I spent ages making various phone calls a few weeks ago to try to find out whether ds had had menACWY vaccine. Finally spoke to the local health trust who said he'd had it. Ds wanted his nhs number today to register with gp I got out his little red book from his baby days to look up the number, tucked inside the inside cover was a piece of folded paper, I opened it...it was his menACWY vaccine paperwork. Silly me!

CointreauVersial · 20/09/2019 21:23

Well, it sounds like we've all got the same plans...get there at 10am, unpack, lunch, push off....ConfusedGrin See you in the queue for keys!

Looking at the huge pile of stuff accumulating, I'm quite relieved DD1 is on the ground floor.

Actually, we're not going to kill ourselves to get there for 10am - we have all day. We are about 2.5 hours away. It's just hitting home that she's going. DD2 is in a foul temper and a little bit tearful; I think she's really going to miss her sister.

Itscoldouthere · 20/09/2019 21:49

Just had to say goodbye to DS as I’m going to work at 7am in the morning and he will still be in bed.
So weird to think that when I get home he will be gone..... that’s both of them gone, it’s going to be such a weird few days 😳

juicy0 · 20/09/2019 22:29

@CointreauVersial my DD is on the ground floor too. Having seen the amount of stuff going into the car I'm also relieved we won't have to carry it all up several flights of stairs!

best wishes to all those arriving Saturday.

Final person has appeared in the FB group for DS2's flat, so the final mix is 8:4 female:male. Looks like one has arrived today and has posted some great videos on their chat. DS2 pretty much chomping at the bit now.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/09/2019 06:59

A few last minute adjustments to the bags yesterday evening - a decision that a big IKEA bag full of stuff wasn't really feasible. Hmmm. Some essentials packed have now been ditched.

Off to a bad start here - DS thought his duvet cover was a sheet despite being nowhere near big enough to find around a mattress - he hasn''t got the sense he was born with!

Nearly overslept this morning too.

Good luck with the move-ins everyone, for today and tomorrow.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/09/2019 07:19

Good luck to all those moving in today. Packing for us today.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/09/2019 07:25

@boys3 good that the 12th person declared themself on the FB flat group. Did try to encourage DS to do likewise but he was having none of it. Have also told him that it's likely there will be more girls than boys in his flat.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/09/2019 07:31

Good luck to those going today.

DD is tomorrow but says now with ppl going she just wants to get on with it.

When we went for offer holders day somehow the postcode we used got us to some carpark-can any one shed any light on one that actually gets you there as last time there was shouting at satnav
And is it obvious when you get there where to park, pick up key etc?

DH started asking stuff yesterday and I realised I wasn't exactly sure-just want it to all run smoothly and be stress free for DD. We are about 2 1/2 hours away and no not know Norwich at all!!!

Based on experience we will move her in and DH will probably go to the pub on campus while DD and I set up-she has asked me to stay and do this. Then we will see re flatmates/lunch/supermarket etc.

One more sleep... Wine

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/09/2019 07:31

*do not know Norwich

juicy0 · 21/09/2019 07:48

I've painted my happy/excited face on and I've pulled up my big girl pants. I'm determined to enjoy today and if I shed a few tears when I get home well so be it.
If I have any useful info for those arriving tomorrow I'll post later but otherwise good luck to everyone this weekend, see you on the other side c

@mumsiedarlingrevolta I have had the same problem with the satnav when I have been to the campus for work. Now I just put in Norwich and University Drive and that does the trick.

We are on our way with a very full car. Ds was convinced he would travel much lighter than dd used to - turns out that is not the case Smile Good luck everyone!

Missyelliottsaysso · 21/09/2019 08:48

Good luck everyone! Hope it’s a lovely stress free day!

NotSorry · 21/09/2019 08:55

This might help

icanbewhatiwant · 21/09/2019 08:56

I noticed there was a different postcode on one of the emails. I'll look through them later.

MrsBartlet · 21/09/2019 13:54

Nearly home now after dropping ds off. We helped him do most of his unpacking and he will sort the rest this afternoon. It was all very organised and we had 3 lovely second years who helped us unpack the car. He has met some of his housemates already and they are planning on getting a takeaway together this evening. A good start I think!

boys3 · 21/09/2019 14:51

Mrs B glad to hear a successful delivery , packing almost done here ready for arrival tomorrow. Ds2 seems to have a lot of stuff Shock

icanbewhatiwant · 21/09/2019 15:23

I posted on here that we didn't have much stuff. I have a Volvo XC60 which is quite big. (Ok who will be looking out for me now...not that common a car?) we have filled the boot and some of a back seat. We still have food to put in tomorrow.

Great to hear there's help to unpack.

Please can anyone tell us if there is a rubbish bin in the bedrooms, also a lamp? Wondering whether to take these items. Thanks.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/09/2019 15:44

Grin @icanbewhatiwant currently regretting getting rid of my volvoXC90 and downsizing.

DH has just put the roof box on... now who'll be looking for us?

CointreauVersial · 21/09/2019 15:47

Heading home! Super smooth drive up, arrived at exactly 10am. It was pretty obvious where to go to collect keys - you just drive into the university and you pass the Sportspark on your left - DD1 and I jumped out while DH parked. Super-efficient row of students handing out keys and passes - DH had barely turned the engine off. Then up to the Village, where a group of students descended on the car and grabbed all our bags.

Room is lovely, clean and new, loads of storage. 6 in her flat, huge kitchen with masses of cupboards and two huge fridge freezers. We were first there!

Predictably we forgot a few things - coat hangers, bathrobe, blutak and (irritatingly) all the fresh food which I'd left bagged up in the fridge. So we had to do a quick shop, then went into the city centre for lunch.

It felt very weird saying goodbye. I'm so excited for her, though.

Good luck to the Sunday starters - hope to hear some stories of freshers fun later in the week.

CointreauVersial · 21/09/2019 15:50

@icanbewhatiwant - DD1's room had no desk lamp, so we brought one, but some rooms do have them. Bins - there was a green rubbish bin and a sanitary bin in the en suite (presumably only in girl's rooms).

icanbewhatiwant · 21/09/2019 15:54

Thanks @CointreauVersial I have put a bin in the car. Maybe add desk lamp too. They can soon come home if not needed.

I expect you are in Hickling/Barton? They had so much communal space, one reason ds wanted to stay there. I know the kitchen was tiny in en suite campus. I'm sure they'll manage. I think the bedrooms were pretty much similar though.
