I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

@boys3 @icanbewhatiwant there are quite a few still waiting to hear about accommodation, I wonder what's left? You've been unlucky to get your 5th choice, pretty sure they said it was unlikely at the open day.
There are a couple of student halls in the city centre which have been built recently so I suppose they are an alternative, they actually look really nice but I think they're quite expensive.

There's pablo fanque house in Norwich. That is for students. That's all sold out too according to their website. Expensive too.
Ds had an email on the Monday saying only en suite campus, ziggarats and shared rooms left and that he would shortly receive his accommodation offer. UEA was his firm choice too. I did read that some universities had offered 40% of their places as unconditional places. If that is the case and they took up offers then I guess a lot of accommodation will be gone to those people. I don't know how they decided who gets what after that.
I said on an earlier post, I wouldn't mind him having a downgrade, but Paston is very different to Barton and not much difference in cost. If it were much cheaper it would be ok.

boys3 · 25/08/2019 14:30

I'm surprised that the zigs are still left. I got the impression they were highly sought after. They certainly look stunning when looking back up towards central campus from down by the lake - though that was during that unseasonably lovely warm and sunny weather back in Feb. Granted the inside was less so, however at the price really good value. No appeal for DS2 though unfortunately.

A sixth flatmate has appeared in the FB page for DS2's flat, so presumably six or seven more to go.

First request for cake to take with him to share with new flatmates when he arrives received - and given short thrift. "Christmas Cake? - think again young man" Happy to do a fruit cake, or pretty much any other type of cake, but a full blown Christmas Cake not going to happen.

icanbewhatiwant · 25/08/2019 14:57

I'm sure ds said shared zigs were available. But I might be wrong though.
Still only the 2 have joined ds's accommodation Facebook chat. I'm not sure any more will join now. The ones that have joined aren't making conversation though. Just asked each other where they are all from...one from Delhi and the other Norwich, one near and one far 😀 they haven't messaged again. By my ds isn't that chatty.
One of my friends told me that when she arrived at her uni accommodation one lad had champagne for everyone and music on...she said it made them feel so welcome, even though he was new too. That sounded lovely.

NotSorry · 25/08/2019 21:20

Still no accommodation here - DS emailed them Friday and they said that he is guaranteed accommodation and should hear by next Friday - no enrolment email either

CointreauVersial · 25/08/2019 22:46

Finally got registration email - what a load of odd questions! Not quite finished, as it needs a passport photo uploading, and DD1 hadn't got the necessary amount of make-up on. Grin

She's not on Facebook, so no accommodation chat. She doesn't seem particularly worried about this.

Hi, my ds starts UEA physics in sept, however is not his first year there!
He started in 2017 doing politics however after the first term he admitted he wasn’t enjoying it and wished he’d done physics. However.. as he dropped A’level Maths (he got A physics, A Chemistry & B politics) he had to do the foundation yr Physics starting in 2018. So after 2 years of flitting about he’s finally starting Yr1 physics. (We still have no idea why he decided to Politics to start with!! And I’m
Almost waiting for him to stay he’s changed his mind again as he really enjoyed the computer modules he had to do for the foundation yr).

He really likes UEA and Norwich. He stayed in The Village for freshers week while doing politics but as he has Aspergers, freshers week really put him of living in and he now commutes the hour journey each day (he’s been doing 3 days a week).
When he lived in he was en-suite and it was quite nice. He had 3 male flat mates while there (by end of week still not everyone had moved in), there were yr 3 students keeping an eye on the apartment block and they had apartment block meetings to introduce everyone.
Ds2 can not wait to move in at Uni (hes still a few years off as yet) but I can’t see him having any issues with freshers weekConfused

sluj · 26/08/2019 10:10

*Poppiesway1", welcome to the thread.
I have lots of admiration for DC like yours who have the courage to reassess choices and head off on a different track if it's not working out for them. At this age they have plenty of time to get it right. These choices are setting him up for 50 years of working life Shock

Still only bought IKEA bags and an extension lead with sockets and USB charging ports on it for my DS. Should I panic yet?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/08/2019 10:19

DS still not had his registration email. Wonder if they're doing them in batches across the weekend too? Think it would be good for them to have some 'down time', to switch off from the whole going to university thing, for a week or so.

@Poppiesway1 hope your DS enjoys his physics course. Is there any possibility he could do a computer science module?

DS reckons quite a few of his school friends will be starting on the 12th September which is pretty soon.

Having been buying 'heading for university kit' for DS throughout the past year, what's the betting I'm last to complete the 'to do' list?

icanbewhatiwant · 26/08/2019 10:26

@Poppiesway1 yes welcome. I hope your son enjoys physics. I guess doing foundation year they can try out the subject without so much pressure.
My son also has the option of commuting if he wants. We are about 45 mins drive away (he can drive) I think it takes about an hour using the train and bus. He will live there for year 1 then decide what to do for the other years.

juicy0 · 26/08/2019 11:07

Hello and welcome @Poppiesway1 good to hear that your DS has made the decision to switch to something he really wants to study, it takes a certain level of maturity to make such a difficult decision early on.
@sluj don't panic today, enjoy the glorious bank holiday weather and worry about it another day 😂

OP posts:
icanbewhatiwant · 26/08/2019 17:50

Well my son reluctantly had a go at filling in the registration form. Answered all sorts of questions. Then it said sorry our records show you are already a student studying at UEA and everything he filled in was gone 😩

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/08/2019 18:06

Oops that doesn't sound right @icanbewhatiwant.

icanbewhatiwant · 26/08/2019 18:39

Ds also had another link with something to fill in. He answered a couple of questions, clicked next at the bottom of the page and got a blank page with the spinning thing at the top spinning. He kept trying refresh or going back a page but nothing happened, after about 15 mins (and lots of tutting) he slammed down the laptop lid and said he couldn't be bothered 😩
I've told him he needs to try again or call the UEA. When the message told him he was already a student studying at UEA an email address came up that said to contact if any problems. So he emailed with a copy of his error message.

sluj · 26/08/2019 18:46

DS tried to do it on his phone and couldn't sort the photo out so has also given up for today. He says he will try on the laptop tomorrow Smile

juicy0 · 26/08/2019 20:48

Sorry to hear about problems with the registration @sluj @icanbewhatiwant
DD managed to get through hers on Friday but it took a while, I assumed it was due to traffic slowing the site down. She was looking forward to seeing her timetable but it's completely empty so I'm guessing not all of the schools have uploaded the info yet. It did give the full postal address for her room which I've noted for grandparents who are keen to send her small parcels to 'help her out' x

OP posts:
icanbewhatiwant · 27/08/2019 15:12

Yes @juicy0 we think the second lot of forms he tried to fill in, when he got the blank page was probably too many online trying to do the same thing.
No idea why he was told he was already a student studying in the first link though. Weird. We will wait to see if anyone emails back.

MarchingFrogs · 27/08/2019 16:18

If it's any comfort, over at Birmingham, applying for accommodation is about the only thing DD has been able to do online since booking a place at the open day. For some reason, everything since then has involved lots of one-to-one contact with various nice but no doubt increasingly frustrated peeps. It isn't just her - unless they have got so fed up with her phone calls that the automated message now greeting callers really is just aimed at her.

boys3 · 27/08/2019 17:16

Follow up shopping blitz today and, possibly, all the key things may now have been purchased, and possibly a few more frivolous. Was not expecting shot glasses to be quite so difficult to find. :)

DS2 has confirmed confirmation email has arrived. Not sure if he has fully completed the process, but he has now got a UEA email address - and so, in his words, access to all those student discounts.

juicy0 · 27/08/2019 18:40

Sounds like a productive day @boys3! I woke up to a power cut which was forecast to last until mid afternoon so we packed up and went to the beach as all of my 'to do' list was stuff to be done online. Tomorrow and Thursday are going to be busier as a result but it was a lovely unplanned day out 😊

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 19:09

@juicy0 a trip to the seaside far preferable to sitting at the computer all day.

DS finally got his registration email. He's done the nuts and bolts but yet to tackle the course specific bits/choosing modules etc...

icanbewhatiwant · 27/08/2019 19:19

I don't think my ds wants to try to register again after his failed attempt.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 19:41

I don't blame him @icanbewhatiwant. Certain aspects (uploading the photo for one) were not without their challenges.

icanbewhatiwant · 27/08/2019 19:55

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 he didn't even get that far. He's tried again but just getting a blank page with the spinning thing in corner 😩

Itscoldouthere · 27/08/2019 20:35

I’m feeling guilty as I’m currently in Canada so have no idea if DS has tried to register or not!
If he hasn’t I’m hoping it won’t be too late to do it once I get home, we haven’t started shopping yet, but I’m planning to give him quite a lot from Home, we have about 25 plates, don’t think DH and I will need them all once both DC leave 😂
