Just to add, the others on that list (York, Manchester, Leeds, EDINBURGH) aren't showing any vacancies for home or international students.

JanetheObscure · 13/08/2019 13:25

I can see vacancies at those four on the clearing list...

With Birmingham, the lack of places for UK students must surely be related to all the unconditional offers they make.

GoldenRuby · 13/08/2019 13:45

How weird, I think I must have a filter I can't immediately spot as nothing was showing for them on my tablet. I've used my phone and you are right:

Leeds - 267 courses for English residents, 326 for International
York 171 vs 210
MAnchester 208 vs 288
Edinburgh 3 vs 279

Edinburgh and Birmingham biggest gaps.

Ingles2 · 13/08/2019 14:24

Interesting about Birmingham... ds2 has it as his insurance, he still needs AAA though, for theoretical physics.. I'm hoping they will accept less, as I think the A's are going to be the problem ; I think he'll get 4 A's..

I've been lurking but not posting as we have been away and then celebrating DC's 18th birthday.
CIE results were made available this morning so DC has her Geography result but is still awaiting Chem and Bio on Thursday.
This feels like the longest week EVER.
Good luck to everyone, whatever their results I hope all our DC's can make a plan they're happy with be it uni or something else.

ZandathePanda · 13/08/2019 17:59

DrMadelineMaxwell Grin thank you - the last thing I want after the stress of A Level results day is drunk A Level revellers in the early hours in my car.

Off to check clearing.....

FrameyMcFrame · 13/08/2019 18:41

Ugh. Running worst case scenarios in my head constantly.

Then hopeful best case scenarios.

Can't wait for the wait to be over now. I feel like this year has been one constant round of worry.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/08/2019 19:34

I am really sitting on the fence. Prepared for results to go both ways.

I don't even think DS is planning to go out on Results Day evening...

Why were the CIE results made available today out of interest?

Atia oh dear. It sounds like your DS's GF is indeed intending to stake her claim. Not the best start for your DS (to have GF turning up the first weekend) when he wants to be able to make a positive impression and start to make new friends. She needs to give him some space to be his own person.

Or either way might have been a better way to put it.

FrameyMcFrame · 13/08/2019 19:44

NewModel, that's s a good way of looking at it.

Mustbetimeforachange · 13/08/2019 19:51

I don't ecven know what CIE results are?
My stomach does a little flip when I think about Thursday. DS says he will check Track when he gets an email (do they ALWAYS email when track changes?) rather than checking it constantly and go in to school when he knows. I did ask him what time he would check his emails & he said "I expect I'll be awake anyway" so maybe he's not quite as laid back about it as I thought.

Mustbetimeforachange · 13/08/2019 20:02

BTW someone up thread was talking about switching to a Santander student account. I've just checked & if they already have a Santander account they have to go into a branch (need to make an appointment, usually). If they don't already have a Santander account it can be done on line (strange that it's easier for new customers!).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/08/2019 20:06

On a housekeeping note, do you reckon we're going to be perilously close to 1000 posts on this thread by this time tomorrow evening? Just wondering when to set up the next thread. It would be awful if we can't post in the panic of Thursday morning (but hopefully it won't be...).

OP posts:
ZandathePanda · 13/08/2019 20:09

Yes

ZandathePanda · 13/08/2019 20:10

I could probably fill up the thread all by myself

Ragwort · 13/08/2019 20:11

Might be a good idea New, and sincere thanks again, I’ve learned and shared so much on this thread. Getting close now.......

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/08/2019 20:12

Thanks for replying @ZandathePanda. I will set up the next thread at some point tomorrow but not too early in the day.

Anyone else got other family members awaiting results at the same time as your DC? DS has two cousins due to get theirs too.

Agree that it's been a very full-on year @FrameyMcFrame.

Laniakea · 13/08/2019 20:17

my younger niece will be getting her results on Thursday too (niece number one is off to university in September). They all have very different interests & aptitudes so - thankfully - no direct comparisons. It's stressful though!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/08/2019 20:21

@Laniakea that's good to hear.

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2019 20:31

No, and I am v glad. Stressful enough without giving DH someone related to draw comparisons with!! All our relatives (I saw all, there are about 2) are in the US.

FrameyMcFrame · 13/08/2019 20:38

Yes! Good point. Agree, this thread has been bloody great support all the way through.

Hopefully we can transition into a first year in uni thread too.

Ragwort · 13/08/2019 22:17

No one else in our family getting results this week ... had that last year when my niece was waiting for her results to get into Medicine at Uni - thankfully she was successful.

justasking111 · 13/08/2019 22:31

DS went out to dinner tonight with his bestest friend from four years of age. He left school after GCSE`s went to college to do engineering got a distinction equivalent of three A levels, the world is now his oyster uni. wise. So pleased for him.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/08/2019 23:03

DD has a casual job for the summer and has varying numbers of hours as a result, but it's local and enough for her to be able to enjoy her holiday and still put some £ aside - hopefully.

She's got 4 days of shifts on the trot now. Only 4-8.30 pm but enough to keep her busy each day and her mind off things a bit. It does mean it's not that easy to go out on results day, but unless it was a family meal, she's not interested in socialising anyway! :)

LaBelleSauvage123 · 14/08/2019 07:41

Well thank goodness today has come. I have honestly never known the time to go so slowly! I don’t remember being this nervous about my own results.
