Hi lurked on this thread all year. Ds wasn’t holding any offers but both Keele and Liverpool put him on reserve list. Keele then emailed a few weeks ago with an offer of A*AA but they would consider lower grades on results day.
He’s just woken up (6.30 am) to an email from Keele saying congratulations offering him a place. So I’m assuming he’s got in but he hasn’t picked up the actual results yet.

Quadratilla · 15/08/2019 07:13

Good luck everyone. Xxx

Welshmum2000 · 15/08/2019 07:44

DD here into Bristol having resat chemistry and Biology .. rather than going away to do biochemistry .. she went back to college and worked part time and now it’s all paid off. We are all crying here with happiness 😄.. Good luck everyone

hoodiemum · 15/08/2019 07:45

Fabulous news, Berthatydfil.
Fingers crossed the hope on the horizon comes good, MrsG.
My DD still sleeping. An IBer so already knows her results. Just waiting to hear if she's snuck into firm choice despite slightly missing the grade, or going to insurance. Wish she'd wake up! (Of course, we may still be in limbo for a few more days...)

HostessTrolley · 15/08/2019 07:57

Aargh

Track not updated but Dd is going to Imperial. Offer was AAA, grades achieved 3xA. We’re in shock but very happy

Good luck to everyone waiting for news - the tension is horrible. My middle son had an unconditional offer so there was no stress on results day

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/08/2019 08:00

Dd off to UCL.. track updated just now.

medicmom · 15/08/2019 08:10

Congratulations everyone
Ds off to Sheffield.

hoodiemum · 15/08/2019 08:26

Yay! Lots of good news. Well done, everyone.

ladsmum · 15/08/2019 08:26

Waiting for school to open but looks like DS missed both offers (track offer for biomed science x2). May consider remark if close. But looks like we will be doing it all again next year Sad

hoodiemum · 15/08/2019 09:12

So sorry to hear that, Ladsmum. Hope the remark route works, but if not, lots of positives in having an extra year of growing up before uni starts. I'm sure things will work out one way or another.

Weaverspin · 15/08/2019 09:53

DD has got her place at Nottingham. Phew! Offer was AAA, she got AAA.

It's been a roller-coaster (and I know it will continue to be), but congrats and commiserations to everyone. We were all prepped for re-marks, clearing, cajoling on the phone, and I'm thinking of those who've yet to get some certainty around the 'what next'. It's so hard...

mimiasovitch · 15/08/2019 11:20

Congrats all! AAA here and off to Bristol. A fair amount of sleep is needed now, as she barely got any last night.

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/08/2019 11:30

Was in a rush with my last post..
Sorry to hear ladsmum- all the best for the remark. This just shows that the system is not fair on young children!

3 A stars here and all her friends have met their offers so she is thrilled and has just told me that she is going out now, will pop over for lunch and will be back tomorrow morning as they have planned a last minute sleep over - the same two girls who she has been friends with for the last 9 years! They were her first friends when she moved school and have been extremely loyal to each other and have supported each other brilliantly in these years and they have ended in different corners of the country!

Nightowlpossibly · 15/08/2019 11:32

Many congratulations to everyone's DCs who have been successful!
Well done!

Unfortunately DD missed her chemistry grade got a B. So didn't get in.

Will wait and see what she decides to do. As she was in a deferred entry anyway. So has a gap year to think about things. Might be joining lads mum next year with a re-sit.

sergeantmajormum · 15/08/2019 11:37

Well done to all your DC and hope there is a way through for those who are disappointed, it’s not over yet.
AAA here and off to Liverpool. No sleep for anyone and there might have been a few tears of relief when the welcome email came through just before results! Thank you for all the tips and support so far.

PiggyPokkyFool · 15/08/2019 15:37

Congratulations to everyone DCs and hugs to anyone's DCs who are disappointed. It is a bloody rollercoaster and we are a year behind you.
@sergeantmajormum - DD is thinking of Liverpool. Would you mind - either on here or by pm letting me know your DC GCSEs and UCAT levels?
DD has the full score for GCSEs(as 8x 8's&9's) and I think 24/30 with UCAT score so I think she should have a good chance of an interview but would love some actual 'my child made it with' reassurance that she should get an interview. Thanks.

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/08/2019 16:20

Nightowl - really sorry to hear that your Dd missed her grade. Have you thought about remarking if her mark is near the grade boundary.

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/08/2019 17:01

Piggypokkyfool- have pm'ed you.

sergeantmajormum · 15/08/2019 17:44

Piggy have PM’d you

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/08/2019 18:11

Congratulations to all DCs who have met their offers!
Just realised that I haven't done it yet!

A close relative is admitted in hospital in the other side of the world so has been a bit hectic today..

alreadytaken · 15/08/2019 20:26

congratulations to those who have places, commiseration for those who do not.

If they havent got a place time to think about whether they want to do it over again or head in a different direction. It's a very long course and a tough life thereafter.

Monkey2001 hope your child has a last minute place and you are off celebrating.

Monkey2001 · 15/08/2019 23:14

Hello all, I have a visitor staying and what with all the hectic-ness of results day have been very quiet.

Congrats to all those who have secured the next step, empathy to Nightowl and Ladsmum.

Ladsmum - is DS trying to do Biomed or medicine now? The Newcastle Admissions Tutor for Biomed told me they were very flexible on results to get on his course, but a lot of people on the course are desperately hoping to get the end of first year transfers to medicine.

Night owl - others have asked, but have you looked into re-marks? We had great success with re-marks at GCSE and one of my niece went up by 6 marks for Physics A level 2 years ago. Another niece missed her Oxford offer by 3 marks on Biology this year and is getting a re-mark. A school friend has missed a better grade by 1 mark and is getting a re-mark.

DS got AAA, so relieved as it is enough for most med schools in the country (except Cambridge which is where he most wants to go) but disappointed not to get an A for Chemistry when it is his best subject and he was the only person from his school to get gold in the RSC Chemistry Olympiad. School has not been able to work out how to get the raw marks for OCR papers, but we are hoping either chemistry or physics will be close enough for a re-mark to be worthwhile.

He did not apply to anything in clearing as all the ones which did not require Biology were PBL, which is not what he wants. On the whole I think that a year of maturity and earning some money before he starts will be a good thing, and he is relieved to move out of limbo.

Nightowlpossibly · 16/08/2019 00:16

Thanks for the kind words.

PRof Layton- DD discussed re-mark and was advised that she was too far off the boundary to make a difference.

monkey2001-congrats on your DS results it will make all the difference when he re-applies next year, with those excellent grades, I sure he will be successful next time around.

DD is so disappointed to have missed her offer by that one grade on chemistry, but not surprised, as it was always her weakest subject. It was always going to be a gamble! At the moment she is not keen to re-sit the chemistry as it was such a struggle for her but she will have time to think about what she wants to do. But it may not be medicine.

Despite missing out on medical school place, she still achieved some of the top grades in her cohort so am focusing on her successes. And am proud of everything she has done this last year.

Good luck to all the DCs on their onward paths to medical school.

hoodiemum · 16/08/2019 09:00

@Monkey2001 Well done to your DS! Fantastic results. That A in chemistry seems very elusive. A family friend had platinum in that Olympiad thing and went to a very famous top school but still didn't manage an A. Hope year off plans are coming together.

Is there anyone else left in limbo? Come hold my hand if you are. DD got her IB results in early July and STILL doesn't know if St Andrews will have her. She's been told she'll know by Monday latest - I guess they're waiting to hear who is taking a place as insurance, and they said they're still waiting on some results from international students too. She's struggling now she's the only one in her various friendship groups who doesn't know what they're doing in 3 weeks' time. Year off, or move 500 miles away for uni (gulp, is it really that far???). I know, she's really lucky she has definitely got in somewhere, so shouldn't be complaining. But just ... tell us already!

hoodiemum · 16/08/2019 11:25

@Nightowlpossibly
So sorry about that chemistry grade. Sounds as though you and she are taking the perfect approach though. Good luck with her decision.
