medicmom, my niece did AQA and although the first 2 papers were OK, she was surrounded by people in tears for paper 3. One girl had to leave the room to compose herself. This is at a top performing private school.

@Monkey2001 oh wasn't aware of that!
I only know from children who are in top performing state college and both Oxford applicants, the maths paper wasn't too bad and was straight forward.

HostessTrolley · 13/08/2019 14:00

Good luck all x

I just saw that medicine courses in clearing are currently St. George’s, Lancaster and Keele, as well as Buckingham who only require AAB but also £37k/year in fees

242Mummy · 13/08/2019 15:18

Keep an eye out for Leicester as well - someone in studentroom has let slip that he/she has been asked to conduct interviews on 19th and 20th Aug. Sounds like they're expecting to have spaces at Clearing - I would get phone numbers ready if looking for a Clearing place.

Monkey2001 · 14/08/2019 09:16

Have you all seen the Edexcel leaked grade boundaries? 217 for A* and 165 for A - so pretty low. The leaked document is on TSR and looks genuine.

OP posts:
Monkey2001 · 14/08/2019 09:21

For comparison it was 229 and 184 last year.

Dd did ocr maths and chemistry, and aqa biology, I don’t think there’s any parity across the boards.

medicmom · 14/08/2019 10:14

Fingers crossed.

sergeantmajormum · 14/08/2019 10:44

Everything crossed here. Good luck to all your DC.

CrunchingNumber · 14/08/2019 11:03

Fingers crossed everything goes well for everyone. Good luck to DC .

Trying to help my god daughters sister with a strategy for tomorrow.
Excellent UKCAT top 20% ( just ) but only 2 interviews Nottingham and Liverpool which sadly did not translate into any offers though interviews sounded as if she did ok. Missed interview for Newcastle by a very narrow margin we think.
Liverpool have e mailed and asked if still interested so I guess a wait list of sorts.
It is really all about the results I think, if she does get 3A and that is not guaranteed then possibility of a late opportunity may still exist.
She is committed to try again next year if no go this time .
Tips gratefully received.

HostessTrolley · 14/08/2019 11:46

@olliepolly - how does she feel about her exams/grades?

Definitely have the contact details of the unis that are in clearing, along with her u as number and broken down ukcat/BMAT scores with her when she goes to collect results.

I think still Lancaster, Leicester (rumoured), St. George’s, and Keele. My daughters friend is at Keele doing a different subject and has had a fantastic first year. And definitely reply to Liverpool. I don’t know if they might be able to see her grades already...

olliepolly · 14/08/2019 11:51

Thanks Hostess , She has replied to the Liverpool are you still interested email.
Grades I think are hard to guess Chem, Bio and RS with chem I think being the one of most concern.

HostessTrolley · 14/08/2019 12:06

And apparently Nottingham are in clearing for the Lincoln pathway. It says on TSR that it’s on the Nottingham website but not yet on the ucas clearing list

Movingmountains · 14/08/2019 12:38

For those of you worrying about grade boundaries and different exam boards - don’t! Exam grade boundaries are set on matched grades - in other words exam boards know the percentage of A grades they can award as this is based on the cohort and their gcse / ks3 grades. Exams are simply a ranking exercise! I know this isn’t much comfort today - I remember the sleepless night last year all too well. I wish all of you and your DC the absolute best of luck tomorrow 🍀

ladsmum · 14/08/2019 13:56

@olliepolly There are a few threads on the student room for medicine clearing if she hasn’t seen them already may be worth having a read through and then she can be a bit more strategic. Good luck to her SmileSmile

Mochi3 · 14/08/2019 14:27

So nervous!! Good luck to all and thanks for all the support :)

hoodiemum · 14/08/2019 15:36

Fingers crossed for everyone. Hope people manage to get at least a little sleep. xx

ladsmum · 14/08/2019 17:32

Good Luck to everyone's DCs, may tomorrow bring the required grades for offer holders and clearing offers for those others.
Not sure there will be much sleep in our house tonight, although the Maths grade boundary leak has offered some reassurance (even if it is a hoax!).

Monkey2001 · 14/08/2019 23:05

Lots of queasiness and pacing here! Good luck all, hope there are lots of good news stories here tomorrow.

olliepolly look at post 1 on www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5638684 for all the latest on medicine clearing at TSR. It does not include the med schools like Liverpool who contact people previously rejected. If she applied to Liverpool they CAN see her grades (a UCAS employee on TSR gave me a direct answer on med schools who have rejected you seeing your results), so that should mean good news on grades tomorrow.

Thanks Monkey

Nightowlpossibly · 15/08/2019 00:33

now just hours away until results and ucas track.

Feeling very nervous and a bit sick.

DD obviously a nervous wreck and feeling stressed, don't think either of us will get much sleep.

Wishing everyone's DCs the very best of luck!!

mamamedic · 15/08/2019 01:34

Huge good luck to everyone for tomorrow. This time last year we were facing what looked like disaster with a bad Chemistry grade and MN was a huge support. A year later she's all set to start at Birmingham and has had a blast during a (unplanned) 6 months in Australia following a successful retake. She now says it has been a huge advantage although it didn't look like that back then. I really really hope they all get what they want but if it's disappointing, don't despair. X

HostessTrolley · 15/08/2019 06:10

Good luck for today x

School opens for results at 7.30, I’m both relieved the day has finally arrived and stressed about what’s to come..

MrsGrammaticus · 15/08/2019 07:06

Cmon on then......spit em out! I'm not going first.....ours has been 'wobbly' but with hope on the horizon! 🤞🤞🤞
