I remember them saying at the Nottingham open day that if you study at Lincoln, your medical degree is a University of Nottingham one.

Baytreemum · 23/03/2019 21:10

The Nottingham (Lincoln) course seems to be 100% Nottingham. My DD has an offer from there and there is 0% from Lincoln - all is done by Nottingham. The only Lincoln thing about it is the accommodation. That said, we didn't go to the offer holder day, as DD not intending to take up the offer, but so far all the offer-holder pack has been from Nottingham, so I think it is just a Nottingham outpost. Also, all the admissions and interviewing is done by Nottingham.

rbsk12 · 24/03/2019 12:52

Hi @HostessTrolley, congratulations to your daughter on receiving the Lincoln offer. When did she hear about this and was it an email from Nottingham University or an update on UCAS?

DS has still not heard from Nottingham...

HostessTrolley · 24/03/2019 21:37

Hi @rbsk12,

It was an email on Friday night/sat morning, but the conditions of the offer were on track which was inaccessible at that time. I haven’t seen her since as she’s been at boyf’s for the weekend so I don’t know any more x

rbsk12 · 24/03/2019 23:40

Ahhhh I see. At least your DD can now move forwards and make her firm and insurance choices. It could well be an AAB Offer xx.

HostessTrolley · 25/03/2019 00:15

She just got in - apparently it’s AAA. Also they do prosection only, she’s quite keen to be on a course with dissection. Something was mentioned on the interview day at Imperial that they might be moving away from dissection for anatomy teaching, it’s on her list of things to find out about on the offer holder day there. Still waiting on Kings, but her thought is that she’d put Sheffield above Lincoln, where she probably would have rated Nottingham above Lincoln.

Busy weekend - yawn. Took son (who’s at Royal Holloway) up to Nottingham for a sports event, lots of driving, a very good curry, fun event with good results achieved, then a long drive back

rbsk12 · 25/03/2019 13:26

Sounds like an eventful weekend. The Nottingham/Derby pathway do full dissection (as does Kings) so I'm surprised Lincoln do prosection as it is a "Nottingham Bmedsci" - one interview at Nottingham if you applied to both pathways which was an option. Hopefully you will hear from Kings soon...

Nightowlpossibly · 26/03/2019 02:38

So DD got an offer from UCL, she is happy as she really likes UCL and thought she had done badly at interview.

She also never dreamed she would have four offers! She has done incredibly well and I am so very proud of her.!

DD knows she is in a very fortunate position, and she appreciates it, but having more choices can make it harder to decide. I Think she is feeling a bit overwhelmed about actually having to make the decisions. Also 2 offers are A* so she need to consider how confident she is about achieving those grades! She is certainly motivated and working hard towards them at the moment.

Hopefully attending an offer holder day will help make the choice easier.
Reading some of the posts on here shows that those visits can be game changers.

Congratulations to all of the Dcs who have had their offers and making their choices. And good luck for those still waiting to hear.

Weaverspin · 26/03/2019 08:02

Congrats to your DD, Nightowl!

How long does she have now to make the decision? The clock starts ticking when you’ve heard back from all unis, doesn’t it?

Monkey2001 · 26/03/2019 08:34

Well done Owlet. Cautionary tail re which to accept, I know a girl who got 4 offers last year and kept 2 with A*s (Oxford and one of the London ones) and ended up missing the offer and doing Biochemistry instead. Definitely worth researching very carefully how the med schools react to near misses before deciding insurance. But hopefully she will get her firm choice anyway.

Or even cautionary tale!

Well done Nightowl - was it your DD who ended up having to work incredibly hard to get her A prediction in Chemistry?

Hope everyone else that is waiting here's back soon.

MarchingFrogs · 26/03/2019 09:37

The deadline for responding to offers is May 1st, if you have received all responses by March 31st.

ProfessorLayton1 · 26/03/2019 09:40

Congratulations hostesstrolley and night owl- well done to your children.
Monkey2001- cautionary tale indeed!!
We have one A * aa and one AAA offer ...so no dilemma here fortunately

HostessTrolley · 26/03/2019 13:42

Congratulations nightowls Dd 😎😎

Who else is still waiting on decisions?

Dd’s Friends who are on hold for imperial, one just got an offer, one a rejection, and the other still waiting, but at least there’s movement there.

chachagabor · 26/03/2019 13:51

Still waiting on one here but I’m fortunate position of 2 offers already. One is for favourite and is AAB — given that is there any sense in putting another medicine as reserve or would it be most sensible to put ‘medical alternative ‘ at a very decent university which has offered ABB ( in case of grades crisis). These lower grade offers are because of an EPQ

rbsk12 · 26/03/2019 14:20

DS still waiting on Nottingham - interview early December...

Congratulations to everyone on their offers.

Tinkobell · 26/03/2019 16:09

Well Done on UCL Nightowl! Seems like a bit of thumb twiddling time now for many whilst DC's firm up or hang on to see what other options might be or clearing. I'm prompting DD to shake a leg, but it is hard for them....big decision where to spend the next 5+ years! I never had the luxury of choices having only bagged just one offer. DD is a laid back person so at least she's not got me wringing me hands yet.

Weaverspin · 26/03/2019 16:10

Waiting on Liverpool - interview January - supposed to hear this week.

Tinkobell · 26/03/2019 16:14

I'm ex Notts, and I must admit I'm not impressed the way they've protracted the wait for answers on medicine. Just seems a bit unnecessary unless they've a cunning plan? Just causes mass decision stranglehold while everyone waits doesn't it? Apparently on other subjects they dish out a lot of unconditional offers which has proven irresistible to a lot of DC's at DD's school.

rbsk12 · 26/03/2019 16:39

I agree @Tinkobell. The final interviews were on 1st March at Nottingham, and I think they are waiting to see how many firm and insure before making more offers. However, when we have phoned them, they have categorically stated that this isn't the case, there are offers to be made regardless but there is a "delay" in the process. They have also said they don't have a "reserve list" as such and no one is "on hold". We should hear this week hopefully...

Tinkobell · 26/03/2019 16:48

@rbsk12....god knows how the whole thing works tbh....years of trial and error I'm guessing. However, can't see why it'd be anymore complex for Notts than any other uni. We felt the MMI day was a bit too 'ran by the students' which didn't leave the best impression.

HostessTrolley · 26/03/2019 18:13

There was a bit of conflict on tsr about kings the other day too. Some candidates were in the same position as my Dd, having been interviewed in December or even November and haven’t heard a single thing since. They were basically told ‘well it’s complicated and if you can’t cope with waiting maybe medicine isn’t for you’ (🤔) but made the point that other unis manage to be more organised or at least more communicative, but the whole discussion was deleted when I went back to look.

I think if Dd had been offered Notts rather than Lincoln, she would have firmed imperial, insured Notts, and withdrawn from kings. Now she’s waiting for kings, but if they make her an offer it will be hard to decide between kings A*AA, or Sheffield AAA as insurance. Common sense would say Sheffield, partly because of the grades but also because I'm sure she’d be happy there, the course and student experience look so welcoming. But it’s not my decision to make...

sergeantmajormum · 26/03/2019 19:33

So nearly 6 months since she pressed the button to apply and enduring 3 rejections, DD has finally got an offer from Liverpool tonight! The relief is palpable, there were tears all round. The process is brutal and I’m so proud of how she has handled the waiting (perhaps that is part of the test!) but you do only need one offer. Just the grades now! Good luck to everyone still waiting!

sluj · 26/03/2019 19:40

Wonderful news sergeantmajormum, open that bottle of wine 😁
