There will be minimum requirements for progression from one level to the next, including e.g. from from 'Level 5x to Level 5y', where the year out of whatever description is taken between uear 2 and year 3. These will be stated in the course handbook (specific rules may apply to e.g. all Bachelor's degrees, or vary by department), which will be somewhere on the university website - try under the 'Information for current students' tab.

I’ve just read back my last message and it comes across as slightly hysterical Blush, I had a raging headache yesterday and despite 2 doses of paracetamol coukdn’t seem to Shift it. Finally, I knew something was seriously wrong when I couldn’t focus anymore and felt a bit dizzy. In a panic I discovered the central heating had been left on ‘all day’ i.e 12hrs for the last 3 days!

What I was trying to say was I’m surprised and felt it was a bit unfair for the worl placement students . I can actually see why that clause would be important for taking a year abroad. Anyway, first things first, to actually get into university in the first place. Thanks all for sharing at least it’s good to know.

ifonly4, have you thought about

www.unibaggage.com/

to save a 7 hour journey to deliver 3 suitcases. We will be using this service to send DD bike and other bits that we can't get in the car.

ifonly4 · 08/02/2019 14:16

Bowbridge - thanks for that, I didn't know that service existed. Ideally both of us would travel with her to say goodbye, but it'd save struggling with suitcases on the train.

Laniakea DD may like to know that geological oceanographers are also needed for offshore renewable energy - offshore wind is growing at quite a rate and tidal is ticking along, will hopefully get somewhere.

Monkey2001 · 09/02/2019 23:00

Re Swansea, I have 2 friends with DCs there who love it. In History, one Sports Science. Spilling onto the beach at the end of each day in the summer is quite a luxury, accom is good value and they offer a non means-tested bursary to students with very good A level grades - think you need AAA.

Fazackerley · 10/02/2019 09:10

Yes 3k a year for AAA!

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2019 09:41

Quite a few other unis do this , too - within their own norms. Portsmouth gives , I think 1k for meeting or exceeding predicted grades; Aberystwyth has a raft of bursaries, including one for A Level results ( I think many of the Welsh ones do this) and Hull gives, I think 1k for BBB or higher. Always worth looking!

Fazackerley · 10/02/2019 10:21

Uea gives 1k for an A at epq I think

LoniceraJaponica · 10/02/2019 11:05

DD was offered a scholarship for her A levels from Lancaster, but she preferred the course and the city of Newcastle.

bizzey · 11/02/2019 17:41

Hi ..i have been following the news of everyone. Got logged out for a bit .but back now.
Congratulations to all with good news !

I am concerned about the accommodation info ..and sulking as we have had no bursery offer !
Ds (and I ) still in the same situation as when i messaged before.
Southampton offer day in a few weeks .
He has booked a place ..but not train tickets yet .
Think he is going to go with a friend ..i was left out of the equation!

As an aside ...have any of your dc's finished their course yet ?

Ps forgot to say ..hope you are all well !!!!

bizzey · 11/02/2019 17:43

@Laniakea how was the offer day ?

DitheringDan · 11/02/2019 19:27

DS has an interview for Manchester. That's the first one to ask to see him in person rather than just go from his grades.

Nerves starting to build up a bit now!

Piggywaspushed · 11/02/2019 19:44

When is it dan ? Good luck and fingers crossed for him!

Laniakea · 11/02/2019 19:48

It was fine bizzey thank you - the interview went well & she got offers for both courses that she applied for. She’s deferring for a year so we don’t need to think about accommodation yet.

Decorhate · 12/02/2019 06:56

Ds is going to an offer holder day at Bath next week. They only sent out details of the day yesterday which is annoying - booked the train ages ago around timings they had indicated & now it is starting & finishing later than expected. He’ll have to leave early to catch his train back.

He had a call from Sheffield last night, apparently not the first....

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 07:26

They are quite late in sending details, these places. Hull sent theirs yesterday too (obviously I only know this by hacking the emails!) and it is full of tbcs. Still, we get travel expenses for that one, so it's all good! Annoyingly, we live 2 miles too close for the full amount!

Fazackerley · 12/02/2019 08:29

Still nothing from Bath. Holiday next week then going to see Swansea.

bizzey · 12/02/2019 16:42

@Piggywaspushed how do you fond out about travel expenses?
To be fair we are London to Southampton so may not count ..but maybe come under other help ...

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 17:01

For Aberystwyth thet very clearly mention it in all their bumf they send out and in every email. Hull buried the info a little but did then email a link. I think it is specific to unis that are regarded as a little isolated. If you google you might find it? I know NTU and Lincoln don't offer travel costs.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 17:02

A quick google does show Essex, Sussex, UEA and Bristol do have travel funds, so I am sure there will be more!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/02/2019 17:29

Hmmm, some (Durham I'm looking at you) only seem to have bursaries available to a very limited few (those in receipt of sixth form grants, full educational scholarships or who are/have been in care).

OP posts:
BigGreenOlives · 12/02/2019 19:13

There are scholarships at Durham for students coming from families with low incomes wanting to study arts and humanities Weldon le Huray or who are good at sport. One of my friend's daughters has one I believe, she definitely has a scholarship & doesn't fit in any of the categories above, but is not from a wealthy background.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 19:17

I thought we were specifically talking about travel funds for offer days at this point in time...

Witchend · 12/02/2019 19:59

DD got her college allocation from Durham today. The one she wanted, which is lovely for her. She's already booked an offer holder day there and is feeling quite pleased about it.
