Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

Haven’t heard from

Itscoldouthere · 28/01/2019 09:53

Yes it’s annoying waiting for Bath but DS is going to offers days at Reading and UEA in mid Feb so he won’t make any decisions till afterwards, hopefully he will have heard from Bath by then 🙄

bruffin · 28/01/2019 10:01

My dd has just had an email from Bristol to tell her she won’t be offered a place on her chosen course (philosophy and economics), but would she like to consider international business management or marketing as an alternative. Anyone had similar?
DS was offered a different engineering degree at Bristol along with a contextual offer. I dont think its that unusual

minesawine · 28/01/2019 13:27

Is anyone still waiting for a response Loughborough? I have had an acknowledgement from them but nothing else. All other offers are now in so it would be good to hear from them.

bruffin · 28/01/2019 13:35

minesawine
When ds was applying Loughborough was the last to reply in March, even later than Durham who are notorious for late offers

DitheringDan · 28/01/2019 13:43

DS is still hoping to hear from Loughborough, though rather expecting a 'no thanks'.

minesawine · 28/01/2019 13:57

Same here Dithering. I think the required grades will be too high, although I am hoping they will lower slightly. I think he is starting to prefer NTU now, although he was adamant about Loughborough before. I am really glad because I think NTU is more him than Loughborough. Lets see if he agrees after holder day on Saturday.

BigGreenOlives · 28/01/2019 14:39

DD & another friend’s daughter both have their offers from Loughborough. DD received hers about 2 weeks after she submitted her UCAS. BUT she isn’t applying for an engineering or design course.

blametheparents · 28/01/2019 22:14

DS has had an offer from Loughborough - think it took about 3 weeks to arrive.
He is booked onto an offer holder day soon.
Good luck to those that are waiting for Loughborough to get back to them.

pasanda · 28/01/2019 22:49

Ds still waiting on Loughborough too. It's his first choice so desperate to hear!

I'm worried that he only got a 4 in English language gcse and the course he's applied to want a 6. We did speak to the head of the course at the open day last summer who said that because he got an A in history and 6 in English literature, he would definitely consider him, but to email him directly at the time of application. He gave ds his card to do so.

Ds is adamant he shouldn't be emailing him until the summer Confused

I'm not sure and keeping my mouth shut, all the while praying the bloke remembers who ds is. Highly unlikely!!

pasanda · 28/01/2019 22:50

If you don't hear until March though, surely you would miss all the offer days etc. ??

ErrolTheDragon · 28/01/2019 23:00

'at the time of application' means exactly what it says, surely? Of course the head of the course won't be sifting through applications and remember the name of one boy he spoke to at an open day last summer. He put the ball in your DS's court, your DS should email now while the offers are being made. What would be the point of waiting till summer - except maybe to try to pick up a clearing place?Confused

pasanda · 28/01/2019 23:06

Exactly! I've tried telling him but he's very reluctant to take any of my advice about anything! Angry

Fazackerley · 29/01/2019 10:00

He's silly to wait!! I think I'd have to fake it and send it myself!!

titchy · 29/01/2019 12:33

He absolutely needs to email now. He runs a very big risk of being declined centrally if he doesn't ask the tutor. The tutor also won't be terribly impressed with an applicant who has failed to follow his instructions, particularly as they were designed to help him.

If he won't listen to you will he listen to someone at school?

justasking111 · 29/01/2019 12:39

Son has had an unconditional offer from the uni. he wants to attend, should he firm it up straight away or wait until May? Do they expect a prompt answer?

Bettydaviseyes · 29/01/2019 12:42

Anyone still waiting to hear from Manchester? Dd put both Manchester and Manchester met on her application but hasn't heard from either yet.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2019 13:23

If he's 100% sure that's where he wants to go, why wait? He may get to put in his accommodation preferences sooner. But if he's got any doubts at all, then no need to rush. I don't think unis 'expect' anything re when offer holders do the firming except that it should be before the deadline.

ProlificLurker · 29/01/2019 13:32

My DS is still waiting to hear from Manchester and Sheffield.

Having said that he hasn’t logged into UCAS or his emails since Friday. I have one of that type of son, they seem fairly common on here which has calmed me down considerably. I thought I’d got a faulty one. Wink

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 29/01/2019 14:47

Dd has heard from Manchester but by the time they made the offer she had already decided she does not want to go and is about to firm up her first choice.

pasanda · 29/01/2019 16:11

So, I've been painting windowsills all day, planning in my head how to tell (force)ds to email the tutor at Loughborough. Couldn't sleep last night worrying he's left it too late.

Then this afternoon he got an offer! Grin

I'm so pleased for him and so pleased we didn't have to have the conversation, so now he has no reason to be cross with me for trying to interfere!

Just got to get AAB now!

pasanda · 29/01/2019 16:12

Prolificlurker - mine is also faulty!! Grin

DitheringDan · 29/01/2019 16:49

Must ask DS whether he's heard from Loughborough or Manchester yet.

He's still in the dark about Surrey, who gave him an initial conditional offer of ABB (he has ABC and is applying after results Confused), then when he logged onto his Surrey student portal, it shows a conditional offer of BBB. Well, he does have those points overall, but he's no wiser about whether that means he's in!

Piggywaspushed · 29/01/2019 17:10

DS had scholarship exam today. The blood will not come out of the stone but I guess it went OK.

In other news, have discovered he has a 3 way clash in A Levels and has to do one the next day... we have to sequester him, take away all internet and take him to school, plus pick him up the day before. Good Grief.

DitheringDan · 29/01/2019 17:13

I'm very surprised that it's up to you to do that, Piggy -- usually it means supervision by school staff overnight, not parents.
