Thanks choir My DD is at the Saturday Junior Conservatoire at RWCMD and we all love Cardiff. I think university would be a good idea, for the same reasons as your son does, and maybe she could do a joint honours. However she wants a very practical course which we think she would be more likely to get at a Conservatoire. She is also interested in the technical side of music production too and Im not sure what options there are for that ....

choirmumoftwo · 16/01/2019 18:40

I know DS has lots of performance opportunities but I believe the newer universities are more geared to the production side of things (happy to be corrected!). I think any music course is great for meeting people and socialising due to its collaborative nature. I loved Cardiff when I visited DS last term. Great city!

HoveringHobbit · 16/01/2019 18:48

Hi everyone
I'm joining in again. This will be the third consecutive year I've gone through this.....
DD is at Durham (in answer to questions - yes college was allocated in Feb, always one of last unis to hive offers, still big town v student divide, quite quiet but Newcastle on doorsteps. DD adores the uni and the city) DS1 at Newcastle - loves it. No one he knows got their first second or third choice of accom!)
Now I have DS2 in his final A level year. Accounting and Finance like DS1 and 4/5 offers received so far

bizzey · 16/01/2019 19:14

Well stay with me on this post ..could get confusing !
Land line went 20 mins ago asking hor ds with his name
I questioned it and it was from Plymouth

Gave the phone to him .. (while ds2 and i were leaning against his door listening !)

Basicly Plymouth were doing a cold sale on him!!! So shocked ..dont know what to say ..reallly put him under pressure on what to say ..

bizzey · 16/01/2019 19:16

Sorry should say we heard him mentioned Southampton as in they must have questioned him about his other choices

bizzey · 16/01/2019 19:23

Still so shocked !! Am i right in thinking
UIF still have a bit of breathing/headspace ?

justasking111 · 16/01/2019 19:24

Bizzey is it one of his options??

titchy · 16/01/2019 19:30

Wow bizzey that's REALLY naughty of Plymouth if they did ask about his other choices. If UCAS got wind of that they'd be in big trouble....

bizzey · 16/01/2019 19:42

Plymouth is his 3rd choice and he got a Uif from them at a ridiculous offer. Any B in any of his a levels.

Are they really allowed to do this pressure ?

bizzey · 16/01/2019 19:50

Just checked with him ..they asked what his firm was !!

justasking111 · 16/01/2019 19:51

Bizzey that answers my question earlier DS had an email from a uni. telling him he would get a call between 4.30pm and 7.30pm between certain dates, end of Jan. early Feb. He is stressing because some school lessons finish at 5pm and their phones have to be off. His offer is conditional. He is attending an offer day next month.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/01/2019 19:53

God that's hideous...bizzey. Your poor son :-(.

Flyingarcher · 16/01/2019 19:59

DS2 just got offer in post from Winchester - seems to have changed from conditional to unconditional if firmed. That's two unconditional offers. Just a shame one isn't his uni of choice. Two more auditions to go...

titchy · 16/01/2019 20:04

They are not allowed to find out what other places he has applied to until his firm/insurance decisions have been made.

bizzey · 16/01/2019 20:17

I would like to apologise for my earlier comment saying " stupid grade
.any B " i did not mean thst a B was a stupid grade.

Really sorry worded that wrong...
What i meant was his predicted geades are AAA ..an Uif at a B ...for ds 2 weehh .

Sorry really not doing this well ..
Sorry

bizzey · 16/01/2019 20:18

I cant spell !

justasking111 · 16/01/2019 20:20

We know what you mean Bizzey Grin Wink

bizzey · 16/01/2019 20:20

@titchy thank you ...what do we now.. apart from get them off his list !!

bizzey · 16/01/2019 20:24

@justashing thank you

bizzey · 16/01/2019 20:42

Humm ..maybe thinking about it ..was he supposed to reply to his Uif ??

titchy · 16/01/2019 20:55

He doesn't need to reply to anyone until later this year!

As to what to do about Plymouth, it's up to you/him. Ignore, strong email to Head of Admissions expressing your disappointment in their underhand tactics, or 'innocent' email to UCAS asking if he should have told them where else he'd applied to as you thought they weren't supposed to know....

blametheparents · 16/01/2019 22:19

Final offer received for Nottingham! dA’s first choice - and they made him wait until last!
I have one very happy DS and I’m very relieved and happy too.
Just the 38 IB points to achieve now!

VanCleefArpels · 16/01/2019 22:47

justasking DD got an email from NTU saying a current student on her course would ring on x date at y time. She has a u/c offer from them and they are really doing the hard sell including a very gushy letter saying how impressed they were with her application, they don’t give u/c offers to just any old candidate blah di blah.

She like many of her peers dislikes actual talking to people on the phone and basically said Sod that for a lark 😂

Piggywaspushed · 17/01/2019 07:00

DS hasn't had any of that from NTU : other than a bright pink card from them and a slightly gushing letter. It must perhaps depend on the course and projected numbers. His offer stands at conditional BCC.

His tow UiFs are Lincoln and Portsmouth. I haven't heard of anyone form either of those institutions NOT receiving UiFs. Upon starting, everyone there must have quite a range of A Level results!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/01/2019 08:05

DS would freak out if anyone wanted to have a chat on the phone!

Still interesting to note the different approaches twixt the universities, newer and more established ones. Some of the 'post-92' ones sound desperate, doing the hard-sell...
