Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

Thanking you! Smile

Hopefully he will cheer up later but he is not happy that he is being 'dragged round' 18 holes of golf!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/12/2018 12:26

Oh has he finished term already? My two don't finish until tomorrow. They are on their knees...

Piggywaspushed · 20/12/2018 12:28

Yes, we finished yesterday. Thank God. Back on 3rd!

Laniakea · 20/12/2018 12:48

woo hoo! Piggy that's fab - so glad he's got one before Christmas :)

School breaks up at lunchtime tomorrow - dd has one nothing this week, she's so tired.

Laniakea · 20/12/2018 12:49

done nothing

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/12/2018 13:22

glitterbiscuits taps foot impatiently. Yes Birmingham's open day was very impressive.

So with regard to unconditional offers , I’m pretty sure you can’t use them as an insurance offer , from the UCAS website .....

By accepting an unconditional offer you are committing to go to that uni or college, so you can't make an insurance choice or be entered into Clearing.

My daughter has had 1 interview so far resulting in an unconditional offer , she has 3 interviews after Christmas and 1 uni still to respond so bit of a dilemma here

Piggywaspushed · 20/12/2018 13:59

Also got a lovely bunch of flowers from DS's friend's mum today for helping with his PS. He has had 4/5 offers so they are chuffed! Smile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/12/2018 14:03

mumwithovertime am I right in thinking that your DD (should she wish to accept the unconditional offer she has 'in the bag') would have to withdraw from being considered by the other universities at this point in time? Presumably it would be a no-brainer if it was her preferred choice? It's all a bit final isn't it, at this stage, to be making such a decision?

OP posts:
mumwithovertime · 20/12/2018 14:11

At this point she plans to go to all the interviews and see what happens , the uni that offered unconditional is lower down the rankings but she did like it there . It wasn’t her top choice but if should got an offer from her top uni it would be AAB which is achievable but by no means guaranteed. The uni that made the unconditional generally asks for ABB so it does give her a dilemma , to be decided after all interviews

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/12/2018 14:29

Good luck to her with upcoming interviews and decision-making, mumwithovertime - it's not a decision I would want to have to make. Indeed I'm rather hoping that DS doesn't get any as I think he'd make a rash one which he might later regret! It's a difficult call, isn't it?

By accepting an unconditional offer you are committing to go to that uni or college, so you can't make an insurance choice or be entered into Clearing.
That means that if you make an unconditional your firm choice, you cannot enter an insurance (also you don't need one, of course).

Re making an unconditional offer your insurance:

www.ucas.com/connect/blogs/accepting-unconditional-offer-0
. You cannot have an insurance choice. Because ‘unconditional’ means you’ll get a place on the course, you don’t need the option of another choice. If instead you accept a conditional offer as your firm choice then it’s OK to accept an unconditional offer as your insurance choice. That said, a university may stipulate that their offer is only unconditional if you make them your firm choice, so be sure to check any terms attached to their offer before you reply.

Theoryofmould · 20/12/2018 17:12

Sorry no idea how I've ended up clicking on this thread but I know that Leicester offer unconditionals that don't need to be firm choice, dd had one from them last year and she used it as insurance. So maybe other unis do the same.

Piggywaspushed · 20/12/2018 17:17

Blimey, they are coming in thick and fast now!

Offer from Lincoln just come in : 104 points . Unconditional if firmed.

eatinglesschocolate · 20/12/2018 19:49

🎉🎉🎉 Piggy Well done to your DS and to you!!

cantkeepawayforever · 20/12/2018 20:55

OK, DS has clicked the right buttons on UCAS Conservatoires (essentially an unconditional offer, based on auditions + interviews), and so we now know where he's off to next year. Eeep.

bizzey · 20/12/2018 21:18

Hello again ...i have been following these threads and then loose you for a bit !! Finally UCAS Form has been sent...today . (Which is good as heaf of 6th form retires tomorrow!!) Delay was teacher/school reference thing.

I have not seen refernce but ds has ..."lives and breathes maths ..very competent student in maths and chemistry "

Great ..but he is applying for geology !

Plus they have changed his predicted grades from AAB to AAA because his B was geography.

Just hope this does not go against him if he gets the AAB ...Which the course wants .

We/ he have Southamton Bristol and Plymouth as choices.

Could do with someone to tell me to get a grip !!!

Piggywaspushed · 20/12/2018 21:32

You may well need Gin rather than a grip! Grin

bizzey · 20/12/2018 21:49

Thank you piggywaspushed for your reply . I have been following you and your ds story and so glad thinhs are looking good .

We put so much effort into helping them on thos part of their life...yet thwy are so blaae about it !!!

bizzey · 20/12/2018 22:05

Sorry cant tag or it seems cant spell on this phone !

BringOnTheScience · 21/12/2018 08:10

Delighted to find thread 3 already.
Much excitement last night when DC1 got an email from York saying they'd make it Unconditional if Firm. York isn't their first choice but it's lovely to have that in the bag before Christmas.

Wishing all of our DCs a stress-free Christmas! Xmas Smile

blametheparents · 21/12/2018 12:45

I have booked DS on to a Maths revision course on the 3rd and 4th January to help kick start the New Year. Shall I wrap him a voucher to open on Xmas day?! Grin
Some of the offers will include a grade requirement for Maths so worth doing everything he can.
Just to confirm - he does know about the course and agreed to it! I wouldn’t have booked him on it in a pushy parent kinda way if he didn’t want to do it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/12/2018 15:16

DS just got a lower offer from Durham than he got for Exeter!?

OP posts:
ifonly4 · 21/12/2018 15:20

Congrats to your DS NewModel. He's probably got one of the last offers of 2018 from them as they've notified DD they're closed until New Year

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/12/2018 15:24

Thanks ifonly4 . DS is a bit shell shocked! It came through an hour ago.
