Whitchend how long did it take to get an offer.
It is ds's first choice. His UCAS form got sent Thursday 21st He got email from Southampton and Bristol the next day to say they got it..and a postcard with picture of the university yesterday.

Please tell me the vibes are good !!

bizzey · 30/12/2018 22:07

Southampton uni that should say (postcard)....are the addmissions back 2nd or 7th ?

bizzey · 30/12/2018 22:08

Oh and what course.... (sorry ..very nosey)

Aurea · 30/12/2018 22:28

So lovely to hear about all the offers rolling in.....

My DS has three unconditional offers so far for Law - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. He's still waiting to hear from Durham and Oxford (post interview). We're Scottish for context and he has already done his HIghers.

Piggywaspushed · 30/12/2018 22:34

I think most admissions offices reopen on the 2nd.

bizzey · 30/12/2018 22:49

piggy thank you . I know Southampton offer open day thing are 2nd Feb and 2nd march. They told us in one of the lectures.

So hopefully not long now to know.

Witchend · 30/12/2018 23:19

Bizzey
Dd applied back in late September and I think she had an offer for Southampton within a month, although I can't remember how quickly.
There's more offer days than those dates, as dd's is not either of those days. She's got a day when the trains are striking so that's going to be fun to sort out!

She's trying to decide what to put as her 5th. She's thinks that she's putting Durham first and Southampton as insurance currently, so I'm not sure she needs to put a 5th down as she has those offers, but she wants to.

bizzey · 30/12/2018 23:33

Ahh maybe the offet days vary depending on the degree/course.Ds wants to do geology.

Piggywaspushed · 31/12/2018 07:04

Thankfully, Portsmouth has Saturday offer days so we may attend! A day off school would definitely appeal to DS but not possible for DH or me.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/12/2018 11:38

Do you think the DC should do an offer holders' day? DS is being resolute that he doesn't need to (think he's being lazy!) but I am worried about him potentially firming Durham or Exeter without having visited either.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

If your DS hasn't visited a university to which, on paper, he thinks he wants to commit three or four years of his life, then yes, he should definitely attend an offer holder day if at all pissible. Best to find out that you really hate somewhere before completing the UCAS submission and not applying there, but better to find out what's what before committing to firm / insurance than deciding when you turn up for Freshers'Week that you have made a monumental mistake...

Of course, he may visit both now and fall in love with both and not be able to decide between them, but that's another matterSmile

BringOnTheScience · 31/12/2018 12:57

Newmodelarmy If it is at all possible to visit, then they really should. The 'feel' of the place is so important and you discover far more about the course & its organisation by talking to students and staff.

It's also a valuable trial of the journey!

MarchingFrogs · 31/12/2018 14:00

pissible

Not that, obviously...

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/12/2018 14:29

Thanks for your advice MarchingFrogs and BringOnTheScience. I agree totally but just wanted some objective wisdom to present to DS.

OP posts:
ifonly4 · 01/01/2019 16:55

NewModel - agree with other posters, if possible visit. It's somewhere he's going to spend the next 3/4 years. If you can't attend an offer holder day, many do a talk and tour or will let your DS visit and attend a lecture.

Hi everyone :) I'm 19- just sent in my full UCAS app and choices yesterday, finally! Had to wait till I got paid for the £24😅

Applied to Uni of Brighton, Uni of Kent, & Canterbury for Law/Law and Criminology.

99% confident I'll get an offer, I've worked my ass off this past year to get more relevant qualifications and I'm finishing my Higher Education Diploma in Law in August.🤞🏻

Praying for an offer from Kent, it's one of the top law schools in the U.K.!🤩 (i've only applied to uni's within commuting distance as I want to stay near home as my boyfriend and I live together).

I'll update when I hear back from one, I'm so stressed about the whole thing!

waterplease · 01/01/2019 17:13

@Aurea Wow! Congrats to your son on his offers for Law! X

Aurea · 01/01/2019 18:27

Thanks @waterplease.

I hope you get your dream offer of Kent as well. Hopefully you'll hear before too long. Good luck! 😊

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/01/2019 18:58

Hi waterplease good luck with your UCAS application and welcome.

DS has just today got an unconditional (if firmed) offer from York University...

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 01/01/2019 19:03

Today?? Goodness. You think the admissions people would be in a hungover daze.

That's a great offer : will he take it? York seems to use UIF quite a lot.

waterplease · 01/01/2019 21:27

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 Wow! Congrats to your son, I didn't know any uni offices worked today! I've probably got at least a week before I hear anything though since mine was so recent.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/01/2019 05:25

It's possible that the email was sent earlier than NYD (not seen it personally). Hmmm not sure whether he will or should accept it. These UIF seem to throw a spanner in the works rather, it would seem. Up to this point he'd seemed keenest on the Durham one. Yes, it would take the pressure off but does that make it the right one to opt for? Difficult decision.

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2019 07:42

I guess I am seeing it through the filter of a) someone whose DS is not York material and b) bias , because I went there!

I agree theses offers put spanners in works!

What course is your DS after? I think you have probably said before !

WheelyCoteClaus · 02/01/2019 07:49

Placemarking

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/01/2019 07:58

Geography, Piggywaspushed. Thing is that DS has been working really hard in the sixth form (whereas he didn't lower down secondary school) and has predicted grades that reflect it. So just a bit nervous that by accepting a UIF offer he may take his foot off the pedal with achieving what he is capable of (which is what happened with his GCSEs). Does that make sense?

I may advise that he discusses options with his geography teachers.

When is UCAS open again - today or tomorrow?
