Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

Feeling a bit frustrated today that the last two offers haven't come in. I know that's a bit unreasonable but the others came in so quickly you can't help but wonder what's keeping them at the two others!

I would have none of those expectations if the others hadn't taken basically a day to make offers. Hey ho.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/01/2019 16:32

DS doesn't really have a clue about career options as yet, although he is much keener on human rather than physical geography. FWIW the York UIF offer isn't yet showing up on UCAS track which is a bit frustrating.

Agree that I would just like the B'ham offer to come in now so that DS is in position to consider the next step. Maybe there was a flurry of pre-end of term offers and now that it's the start of a new one (and the 15th January submission deadline is looming) they will take a more measured approach (keeping our DC waiting for longer).

Apparently there were more applications this year than in previous years for the early October deadline courses/Oxbridge (an aspirational cohort?), so many of the universities may already have a clearer idea of whether applications are up/down/the same. More so than in previous years.

Piggy, if it's any comfort, DD hasn't heard from two of hers yet, either. At the moment, though, I think the English essay she didn't quite manage to finish before its 10am this morning deadline is of slightly more pressing concernHmm.

ifonly4 · 03/01/2019 16:58

DD hasn't seen Durham either, but as she'd be happy with St Andrews itself (which is probably smaller than Durham),so I assume Durham would suit her.

Waiting for three offers/rejections here. DDs choices are good for different reasons, so we're almost thinking it would be better to have a couple of rejections as it'd be easier to choose. DDs two offers are approx 350-425 miles away and great courses, but I think one offer closer would help her decide if the better course are worth the distance.

Birmingham admissions are open tomorrow afternoon only and we know an offer/rejection is in the system or should be very soon.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 17:08

I've tried establishing when the admissions offices of NTU and Hull are open but can't find this info.

They do claim offers or rejections within two weeks of receiving an application but that doesn't use the word 'working' anywhere and normally such things are expressed in working days, so it isn't much help.

Aurea · 03/01/2019 17:14

St Andrew's is pretty tiny and much smaller than Durham. The whole town seems to revolve around the university and the nightlife is very sedate. It is very lovely though.
Congrats on the offers!

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 17:17

The whole town seems to revolve around the university... and golf!

waterplease · 03/01/2019 17:19

I'm anxiously awaiting replies though I know realistically not to expect one for at least another week or so! All 3 unis have now acknowledged my applications which is good... it's now just a waiting game.

I've never visited any of the places you guys are mentioning for uni's so can't input anything there unfortunately!
Only wishing the best of luck to everyone and their kids!🤞🏻🙏🏻

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/01/2019 17:24

Hi Piggy I would have thought that a two week time-frame would most likely exclude the past week and a half (with UCAS being closed too). So it may be next week before your DS hears anything further?

errorofjudgement · 03/01/2019 17:43

Tension is mounting here too, DDs auditions are in the next couple of weeks, then realistically she/we are expecting rejections. It’s so difficult, she’s a straight A student so could reasonably expect to get offers for academic courses. Grr, why drama!! And why only at the conservatoire style places - Gin needed I think!

errorofjudgement · 03/01/2019 17:43

Sorry - just venting here as in real life I’m being super supportive

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 17:47

Yeah, I guess so OP ,although the other three were so fast!

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 19:13

Oh me of little faith. They must have heard me becuase at 5.46 an offer came through from Hull! Another 112 pointer . No evidence yet of any UIF offer (although Portsmouth's came separately). They are virtually all offering the same which makes things tricky. Didn't expect much different from Hull, mind.

ifonly4 · 03/01/2019 21:21

Piggy - that's brilliant news!

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 21:49

Thanks ifonly. I do hope DS sees it that way at some point soon. He thinks all the unis are just 'desperate'.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 21:50

error keep on keeping on! Has she got exciting audition pieces lined up?

BringOnTheScience · 03/01/2019 22:39

Brilliant to hear of new year offers starting to arrive! DC1 is now prepping for mocks and writing their ToK essay (doing the IB).

errorofjudgement · 03/01/2019 22:55

Thanks Piggy, yes she’s got some great stuff lined up alongside the obligatory Shakespeare!

Great news re your DS offers, hopefully he’ll get excited soon too Smile

waterplease · 03/01/2019 23:24

@Piggywaspushed your son sounds ungrateful for his offersSad make him aware that the spot that has been offered to him would be considered an incredible achievement to another student. Why would he want to go to a uni he doesn't even respect anyway if he's calling it 'desperate'.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude, it just hurts as a fellow student around his age (19) and I've been waiting nearly 2 years now for an offer- working my ass off this past year to secure a place this coming September.

Again, no harm meant, it just rubs a sore spot with me. It doesn't show your son in his best light either.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2019 07:14

Yes, aware of all this water ! It is very frustrating. I am very frank about him on here but he does suffer from chronic low self esteem and does and says a lot of things as a defence mechanism, to wind his poor mother up. The stats don't help, mind. It is true that 100% of applicants to many of his courses get offers. He also listens to a lot of the poltical rhetoric (which is easily found on MN!) that a university degree is a waste of time and money.

I am sure you will get deserved offers rolling in soon, so don't panic.

My DS's 'journey' has been quite the saga on these threads : think you need to come round to give him a talking to!

In the interests of balance, I would like to mention that DS is a dream in many ways : never goes out on the tiles, quiet, doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs or cause any major issues!

waterplease · 04/01/2019 07:59

@Piggywaspushed I'm sure he is, he sounds incredibly intelligent too! I'm sorry he suffers from low self esteem, agree that it could definitely be a defence mechanism by saying that! Hopefully he'll come around and see these offers are a reflection of how smart and wanted he is by these unis!💪🏻

Thank you, it's been a rough one for me too, anorexia, depression and panic attacks from age 14- I didn't even finish secondary school due to being hospitalised so it's a milestone for me, one I've wanted for so long! Just praying this year is my year.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2019 08:01

I am sure it will be. Onwards and upwards!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/01/2019 08:02

Piggy great news for your DS. Errorofjudgement good luck to your DD - it sounds as if she likes to challenge herself to the max?

OP posts:
errorofjudgement · 04/01/2019 08:43

@newmodelarmy - thank you for the good wishes. You're quite correct DD does push herself - too much! Her school day starts at 8am, then after 5 hours of academic wok, ie a normal school day, , its lunch break followed by 4 hours of vocational study. So a very long day, and she is such a perfectionist aiming for the very high grades.

blametheparents · 04/01/2019 08:57

My DS is on a maths course for a couple of days to help with revision. He has applied for Economics and some of his offers are bound to include a maths requirement. Day one was good yesterday, so I’m hoping today will be useful too.
@Bringonthescience - first draft of TOK essay done, but Maths IA still needs to be completed.
