Hope you all find this - didn't realise I took 999! Whoops.

Bootface, we were in the same situation as you last year ( may even be the same school , begins with a J, also dropping Pre U after 2 years....) fortunately most dc in her year seemed to do much better than predicted . My Dc managed to get her predicted grade up to a D3 so she could apply to do medicine, but never achieved more than and M2 most of the course . Came out with a D2, but she worked so v hard for it . Did cause a lot of unnecessary stress ....

booface · 27/05/2018 12:57

Hi notonmywatch28, lovely that you posted, yes same school beginning with a J! That's a coincidence, the wonders of mums net! So nice to hear that your dc did get a D2, that's very reassuring. Hope she is enjoying her first year. Sounds as if you went through the same stress too. Hopefully we will get the D3 needed and forget about the extra pain!

notonmywatch28 · 27/05/2018 19:45

Bootface, it is a very small world out there, on the medicine 2017 thread I was on last year, there was another J parent. The school even wrote to the universities in July to say that as they'd struggled to find teaching resources for pre U, would the universities consider dropped grades. But they defended their decision to teach Pre U, and were keen to quash rumours of the teaching being incomplete ! Good luck this year to your dc x

booface · 28/05/2018 10:06

Thanks notonmywatch28, I don't think there has been any question of writing to unis this year, unless some parents have asked and I'm not aware. I think your year were particularly unlucky being the first one, we are the last, thank goodness!

SomersetS · 30/05/2018 17:23

Half term feels relentless. Outside stresses piling in but very proud of DD, working exceptionally hard.

We just need to keep our kids safe & well. Remember to hug them.

Been a bit of a week here.

Hope you are ok Somerset x

SomersetS · 30/05/2018 18:12

Sorry yes we are, thanks but not everyone so lucky. Kids, cars & life-changing consequences.

Some tough life lessons as our kids become adults. Just wish we could keep them in a shiny safe bubble, particularly at this stressful time.

So sorry to hear that SomersetS , how very upsetting for all concerned. Cars and teenagers are always such a worry....

2B1Gmum · 01/06/2018 11:32

Sorry to hear Somerset, I watched the programme about paramedics in Birmingham, particularly a fabulous kind mature 21 year old - tears streaming down my face as she woke her mum at 3 am because she just had to hear her mums voice after the most horrific day. Keep thinking about her and the amazing job paramedics do. Oh and woken Wednesday night by a builders van going up in flames at 4 am. Fireman have my admiration too - god knows what dangerous chemicals could have been in the van - luckily no one was hurt.

Dd spending most of her time on chemistry, but first exam is geography! I am putting on a chilled front, or trying tooHmm

I agree lots of hugs and a few treats to keep them all going.

Movingmountains · 04/06/2018 17:12

Well one down, eight to go. Not sure my nerves can take much more. Have swapped TSR addiction to post exam comments on Twitter 😂

swingofthings · 04/06/2018 17:21

Hope you and your family are ok Somerset and those you love.

Hope it went ok MovingMountains. DD's first one is tomorrow. Told her not to drive to school tomorrow in case she had an accident however small but swapping information would delay her. She said I was thinking way too much for my own good!

Good luck everyone!

SomersetS · 04/06/2018 17:40

The worst exam for us tomorrow apparently Inorganic Chemistry. Get it out the way early I said.

Good luck everyone. Nearing the finish line of this marathon.

Good luck for everyone for chemistry tomorrow. Physics today ‘went’ apparently was ‘not great but ok’. Not helped though by leaving ruler in bag and exam invigilator refusing to give him one!

adrinkofwater · 04/06/2018 19:38

Hope everyone is feeling OK about tomorrow - I imagine most of our DC are doing chemistry. DD seems quite calm at the moment - she wants to get them started so they'll be over! Tomorrow is her 1st, but biology is the one she is finding the hardest - exam technique and working out what the examiners want. Hopefully all will be OK for all our DCs.

biscuit2000 · 05/06/2018 10:59

Yes good luck everyone. 🍀DD has first exam in Chemistry this afternoon. She has instructed me not to ask how it went as I stress her out Hmm.

adrinkofwater · 05/06/2018 12:27

DD did an M1 maths paper at home this morning. Not sure how that will prepare her for chemistry exam this afternoon!

movednorth · 05/06/2018 12:38

biscuit, I think we all have our own ways of unwittingly increasing the stress. Apparently I make things worse when I'm 'so positive'. I feel I have misunderstood my role! Good luck to all, and especially those who have managed to keep going despite not having any offers to work towards. That has been a particularly big mountain to climb, and I take my hats off to all those DC (including mine) who have (apart from a few wobbles) remained determined. Here comes CHEMISTRY then ...

2B1Gmum · 05/06/2018 16:38

Playing at calm and seem to be getting it right, DH doesn't quite get it right. DD being very tough on herself, thought there were one or two tough questions in Chemistry this p.m. and says you can never tell... 2 more papers to go and well spaced out. It will be a long couple of weeks for all - all the best to all your DCs and mums too of course.

I still have the distraction of very annoying planning department who were supposed to give a decision last week and have stopped answering emails!

Choir tonight - best way to forget about it all other than a glass of something....

Mommymoomitzi · 05/06/2018 19:21

Have a look at the AQA Chem memes on instagram - there is a nation full of DC who are stunned by the last 7 mark question! Along the lines of “when you study the Chemistry spec and find a Maths exam has been set”. They are treating it with the humour that you would expect!

SomersetS · 05/06/2018 20:20

DD declared AQA Chem ok though, like others pretty perplexed by the 7 mark question. One down.

OP posts:
specialted · 05/06/2018 20:43

Think Chem was also ok for DD. Been a bit caught up with Ds's GCSEs too, struggling to remember who has what when!

biscuit2000 · 06/06/2018 07:08

Yes apparently Chemistry was ok but said it was harder than last year's paper which she'd done as a trial run on Monday. Given no more detail and I didn't ask! Kept busy reassuring DS as GCSEs didn't go so well yesterday.... 3 weeks to go and then a brief respite before we start worrying about results day. Ha ha.

adrinkofwater · 06/06/2018 07:59

Same here biscuit re chemistry - ok but harder than last year's (OCR A). M1 maths this morning. And a off GCSEs for DS which is nice!

swingofthings · 06/06/2018 16:18

AQA Chemistry yesterday was good, was worried when first saw the 7 marks question but think she got it all right.

Not so good with Mechanics this morning. She'd done last year's paper and did fine but said this morning one was much harder. Thankfully, not too worried as she only needs minimal points on this paper to get an A or A* (she said same total points but need 90% on one paper???).

Biology tomorrow!

adrinkofwater · 06/06/2018 19:53

Swing DD also found the M1 paper much harder than last year's. Thankfully she isn't too distressed though, but I think she might be more nervous now for C3 and C4. Biology tomorrow morning for her too.
