DD2 has been home since Saturday and has just started unpacking her bags. DD1 is due home either tomorrow or Saturday. Both DH and I are away working so DD2 is going to fetch her. Both have exams in January and are planning to revise a lot over the holidays. DD2 also has a lab report and project to complete.
Enjoy having your DCs home and I hope we don't have too many 4am wakenings!

Going over to bring DS back tomorrow, on train as I won’t drive ! Bloody joke really as we are only bringing back a load of washing and the PS4( priority item) 😡 but he insists he can’t manage to bring it all back on his own!

Happy Xmas all ! X

Auntpetunia2015 · 15/12/2017 06:56

Brought DS Home last night got here about 9pm by 9.30 he’d done smelliest 💩 and gone off the pub. He came home at 3:30am...I know he woke me up! Words will be had..he also brought a back of damp smelling clothes some of which had actual mold on. I have pics but don’t want to spoil anyone breakfast. Needless to say they’ve been boil washed and if still stink are for the bin.
But you know what ? It’s lovekt to have him here Grin

Horsemad · 15/12/2017 08:09

Hahaha AuntP Grin it's the little things we miss!

When DS1 came home for good this year, I had to bin most of his clothes, as he'd put them away still damp and they were RANK!!
I washed them myself and then my (new) washing machine stank until I did 3!!! maintenance washes on it to get rid of the smell...

Why can't teens wash/dry their clothes properly? Confused

Creature2017 · 15/12/2017 10:30

Temp, tell him I used to get my bike, 3 or 4 cases or bags plus violin alone into a taxi at university to the station, then on to the guard's van (alone, no help) and off at the other end..... It was certainly a lot of stuff and having to leave some briefly push the rest a few yards, run back for rest etc until at taxi rank...

Tempnamelady · 15/12/2017 11:40

Creature I know ! No ones ever wiped my backside for me either ! This is what happens when you only have the one to see to ! If I had more I wouldn’t be able to run round after him !

Needmoresleep · 15/12/2017 12:52

End of term good news, as DD seems to have found a flat which only came onto the market a couple of days ago. Good proportions, double bedrooms, the right location and surprisingly cheap. They still need to sort out paperwork, and most are leaving today. so fingers crossed.

DD messaged me from a lecturer. I hope academics too have started to wind down.

ono40 · 15/12/2017 13:04

Aww...loving all the stories of the DCs coming home. DS has been home a week already and it has been lovely even if I've had to do 4 loads of laundry and spend a fiver returning library books by post.

Horsemad · 15/12/2017 13:19

DS is in lectures until 3pm, off out partying tonight and hopefully catching that train tomorrow morning... Grin

First term done and dusted!

RedHelenB · 15/12/2017 18:07

Picking Dd up from train station soon. She's come home tonight after all so she can work tomorrow and then go out on the town at night with her old school friends.

Horsemad · 15/12/2017 18:38

I am collecting DS at the station tomorrow, taking him to football, then he's just mentioned he's 'off out' with friends tomorrow night which will probably involve a lift there and possibly back too at some ungodly hour. Hmm

Tempnamelady · 15/12/2017 19:47

Collected DS and his washing today . He came in had chippy tea, shower and out. I’m on the second load of washing as we speak.

His room was not too bad but the kitchen was disgusting. DS pots and cupboards are in good order but some of his flat mates never wash up. There was a lad sat playing guitar and singing in the communal room today surrounded by a complete shit tip 😷.

I was itching to blitz it ( which I have done before ) but DS said I wasn’t to. Dirty buggers.

HSMMaCM · 15/12/2017 20:30

DD is home. Well ... she's gone out and her washing is in the machine Grin.

simbobs · 15/12/2017 21:10

DD home. She looks happy and well, which is a massive relief. She has exams on the first day back in Jan, though as well as masses of work to do so just as well that she has no paid work to do.

simbobs · 15/12/2017 21:11

Oh, and picking up puppy on Sunday!

dingit · 15/12/2017 21:42

Dd home, washing in machine, and so unfortunately is her phone charger...

tobee · 15/12/2017 21:47

DS is home. We picked him up on the end because he had a lot of stuff. Bit shocked by the state of his room at first ShockGrin. But then impressed that he tidied up by himself, hoovered, washed up, threw out perishables and emptied bin before putting stuff away. Like a pro!

As with dd 4 years ago, I'm thinking "god, that was a looooong term. Glad he's back now!" Then remember he'll be off again soon. Xmas Sad

Viewofhedges · 15/12/2017 21:56

Thank you needmore for mentioning the academics! I’ve been lurking on this thread this term while I’ve been lecturing to, planning for, organising trips for, having seminars and 1-2-1s with, listening to, being exasperated by, worried by, amused by and emailed at 3am by your children. It’s been my first term, too.

Honestly, they are a lovely bunch. It’s a privilege to teach them and I’m full of hope for a future in their hands.

I’m exhausted beyond words, and in my whole two weeks “off” I’ve got 30 projects to mark, units to plan, admin to do, meetings to attend and Christmas to have. Any student who asks me on return how I enjoyed my “holiday” will be met with a very stern look.

But I just wanted to let you know that while they are away at uni, if all places are anything like mine, your young people are supported and those who engage are stretched, encouraged and appreciated.

Maybe I’m just tired and emotional, but I am very fond of ‘my lot!’ I hope you all have a Happy Christmas.

HSMMaCM · 15/12/2017 22:04

ViewOfHedges what a lovely message. I'm guessing you're not DD's tutor, who watched their group presentation this morning and said "two of you have failed ... I'll tell you who next term". DD was not impressed. She's pretty sure who one failure was, but not the other, so she's stressing.

Have a lovely 'break' and enjoy your marking.

Viewofhedges · 15/12/2017 22:32

Hssm goodness that’s rotten! No, not one of mine. I wouldn’t do that and don’t know any lecturers who would - it’s bad practice. Sorry your DD is experiencing that. I hope she can relax and enjoy her Christmas.

HSMMaCM · 15/12/2017 22:38

Oh, I think she's brushed it off a bit. She's at McDonald's with her old friends from college. Generally she loves her tutors, but there's always one ...

simbobs · 16/12/2017 08:13

Agree Viewofhedges that we do not hear enough from your side, and that was a lovely post. Hope you do get some respite, as you certainly sound as though you deserve it. HSM that is a rotten trick to pull. Glad your DD has brushed it off but some would take it to heart enough for it to spoil their break.
I have yet to tackle the mountain of washing DD has brought home (possibly everything she took away). She complains about the cost of doing it at uni. Part of me wants to tell her that it is free at home, and to go for it; part of me is so relieved to see her that I will gladly do the lot.

rightsofwomen · 16/12/2017 08:26

Collecting mine today! Sort of.
Got myself an Airbnb for tonight and he’s taking me out and we’ll drive home tomorrow.
Taking DS2 to football then dispatching him to grandmas! Then collect him on Sunday and go and see father Xmas before dinner out with both of them. Something like that #BackToTwoSons #Busy

rightsofwomen · 16/12/2017 08:27

He’s ended up with £1.36 in his account which I think is pretty good management!

BestIsWest · 16/12/2017 09:09

Collecting mine today too. Think he has found a house for next year too.
